Grafenegg is both a cultural hotspot with global reach and, with its magnificent range of musical productions in unique surroundings, a quite special artistic calling card of Lower Austria. With world-class artists and ensembles, classical music becomes an adventure here, an emotional experience. As Governor of Lower Austria, I’m deeply proud of this beacon project because it offers music of the highest standard to all. Grafenegg is an attractive venue for musicians from all over the world, a focal point for promoting young talent and, not least, a symbol of the cosmopolitanism and internationalism of our region.

WILLKOMMEN AM CAMPUS GRAFENEGG!

WELCOME TO CAMPUS GRAFENEGG!

Grafenegg ist ein Ort, der inspiriert. Seit der Gründung des Festivals vor mittlerweile 13 Jahren haben die weltweit größten Künstlerinnen und Künstler aus der Kraft geschöpft, die von Grafenegg ausgeht. Viele meiner Kolleginnen und Kollegen sprechen mich während meiner Konzerttourneen regelmäßig auf den «genius loci» Grafeneggs an. Seit einigen Jahren begegne ich dem Geist Grafeneggs auf den internationalen Konzertpodien aber auch auf ganz andere Weise. Viele Musikerinnen und Musiker, die in den vergangenen Jahren aus dem Campus Grafenegg hervorgegangen sind, haben mittlerweile in den großen europäischen Orchestern Fuß gefasst. Gestern haben sie noch als Mitglied des European Union Youth Orchestra, das in Grafenegg alljährlich sein Summer Home bezieht, am Wolkenturm musikalisch das Feuer geschürt, heute lodern die Flammen in Klangkörpern wie dem City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra oder dem Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam weiter – beide Orchester werden übrigens heuer auch beim Grafenegg Festival zu Gast sein. Der Campus Grafenegg hat sich der Förderung außerordentlicher Talente auf internationalem Niveau und mit interdisziplinärer Ausrichtung verschrieben. Er wendet sich an Jugendliche im Schulalter genauso wie an Musikerinnen und Musiker, die am Ende ihrer universitären Ausbildung und am Beginn ihrer professionellen Karriere stehen. Das Voneinander-Lernen ist ein wesentlicher Aspekt des Campus Grafenenegg. Und so können beim gemeinsamen Probieren und Musizieren nicht nur die Jüngeren von den Älteren lernen, sondern auch umgekehrt. Es versteht sich von selbst, dass auch ich mir manchmal einiges von den jungen Talenten Europas und der Welt abschauen kann.

Grafenegg is a place that inspires. Since the founding of the Festival, some 13 years ago now, the world’s greatest artists have drawn on the energy that Grafenegg radiates. Colleagues often come up to me when I’m touring and talk about Grafenegg’s «genius loci». But for some years I’ve also been encountering the spirit of Grafenegg on the world’s concert stages in a quite different way. Many of the musicians who graduated from Campus Grafenegg over recent years have now carved out a niche for themselves in some of the great European orchestras. Only yesterday they were members of the European Union Youth Orchestra, which takes up its Summer Home every year in Grafenegg, and stoked the musical fire in the Wolkenturm; today those flames blaze on in, for example, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam – both of which, incidentally, will be guests of the Grafenegg Festival this year. Campus Grafenegg has devoted itself to promoting exceptional talents of world class while taking an interdisciplinary approach. It’s aimed at young people of school age as well as musicians coming to the end of their university training and starting their professional careers. Learning from other students is an essential aspect of Campus Grafenegg. It’s how, through rehearsing and making music together, the young learn from their elders and vice versa. It goes without saying that I too can sometimes learn from the young talents of Europe and the world.

CAMPUS GRAFENEGG PHILOSOPHIE

MITEINANDER UND VONEINANDER LERNEN Dass Lernen nicht unbedingt nur in der Stille der eigenen Räume oder in einer Universität oder Schule erfolgen muss, ist nur einer der augenfälligsten Vorzüge des Campus Grafenegg. Das einzigartige Ambiente von Schloss, Park und Natur in Grafenegg sowie die bekannte Gastlichkeit in Niederösterreich laden Konzertbesucherinnen und -besucher aus aller Welt, international gefeierte Stars und Mitglieder renommierter Spitzenorchester zum Verweilen ein – mitten in einem lebendigen und für alle Anwesenden in vielen Facetten bereichernden Musikkosmos. Zentral für die Bereiche des Campus ist, miteinander Musik zu schaffen und erlebbar zu machen. Sowohl für Lehrende, Studierende, Musikschülerinnen und Musikschüler als auch für Profimusikerinnen und Profimusiker sowie Komponistinnen und Komponisten wurde hier ein Ort der Begegnung und Fortbildung geschaffen, der darüber hinaus eine unmittelbare Präsentation der Ergebnisse im bestmöglichen Rahmen erlaubt – auf der Open Air-Bühne Wolkenturm und im Konzertsaal Auditorium. Die bisherigen Studienerfahrungen werden in wertvoller Weise ergänzt: Durch die Partnerschaften mit dem European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), der European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, dem Jugendsinfonieorchester Niederösterreich (JSO) sowie dem Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich bietet der Campus eine in dieser Form einzigartige Plattform für Musikerinnen und Musiker auf dem Weg zu einer professionellen Karriere.

Die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer profitieren zum einen von der Präsenz namhafter Tutorinnen und Tutoren aus der musikalischen Praxis, die sich ihrer individuell annehmen, zum anderen gewinnen sie in hohem Maße durch den gegenseitigen Austausch – das Lernen voneinander. Mitstudierende sollen unmittelbar in den kreativen Prozess eingreifen, wodurch ein intensiver Diskurs über verschiedene Ansätze stattfinden kann. Kollegialität wird zum Kern des Lernens am Campus Grafenegg und unterstützt die Auseinandersetzung mit dem eigenen Musizieren. Das Knüpfen neuer Kontakte bildet die Grundlage für mögliche dauerhafte künstlerische Partnerschaften, die von hier ihren Ausgang nehmen können. Gleichzeitig besteht ein intensiver Kontakt mit dem Publikum, das sowohl Eindrücke aus der «Werkstatt» bekommt als auch in den Konzerten zum verständigen Vis-à-vis wird. Hintergründe und Zusammenhänge der ausgewählten Werke erschließen sich durch die angebotenen Veranstaltungen ebenso wie im Austausch untereinander, mit den Tutorinnen und Tutoren sowie den Dirigentinnen und Dirigenten. Darüber hinaus gibt der Campus mit den regelmäßigen Auftritten des EUYO, das Residenzorchester in Grafenegg ist und hier sein Summer Home hat, und des Jugendsinfonieorchesters Niederösterreich Einblicke in die Arbeitsweise eines aus gesamteuropäischen und eines aus regionalen Nachwuchsmusikerinnen und -musikern gebildeten Orchesters.

CAMPUS GRAFENEGG PHILOSOPHIE

Ein weiterer Fixpunkt des Campus ist das europaweit vernetzte Kammermusikprogramm von Musikuniversitäten und Festivals, die ECMA. Dafür werden Ensembles, die am Anfang ihres internationalen Weges stehen, nach Grafenegg eingeladen, wo sie in Meisterklassen mit erfahrenen Kolleginnen und Kollegen arbeiten können und in sogenannten Music Labs mit thematischen Hintergründen vertraut werden. Generell ist der Ansatz des Campus Grafenegg, ein ergänzendes Angebot für junge (Profi-)musikerinnen und –musiker zu schaffen, Aspekte zu berücksichtigen, die im regulären Hochschulbetrieb oft zu kurz kommen und ein interdisziplinäres Programm zu schaffen, das über das perfekte Spiel hinausgeht, zum Beispiel «Wie begegne ich Auftrittsängsten?», «Wie präsentiere ich mein Ensemble?» oder «Welche Informationen sollte ich zum ausgewählten Repertoire haben?». Eine der Säulen des Campus Grafenegg ist in diesem Zusammenhang das 2018 ins Leben gerufene Grafenegg Academy Orchestra, das sich aus am Beginn ihrer professionellen Karriere stehenden hochbegabten Musikerinnen und Musikern zusammensetzt. Sie erhalten die Möglichkeit, den Arbeitsprozess und den Betrieb in einem symphonischen Orchester kennenzulernen, und zusätzlich zu ihrem technischen Können wichtige Werkzeuge für ihre musikalische Zukunft. 2019 steht der Campus unter dem Motto «Klangkosmos und Bildwelten». Dadurch entstehen interdisziplinäre

Verbindungen, und es bietet sich eine weitere Inspirationsquelle für die musikalische Arbeit. Auch das diesjährige Symposium des Campus widmet sich dem Jahresthema und richtet sich an Lehrende von Musikschulen und Kreativ-Akademien, an Studierende und Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer der verschiedenen Campus-Klangkörper. Dass neben allem reproduzierenden musikalischen Arbeiten in Grafenegg schließlich auch neueste schöpferische Prozesse im Rampenlicht stehen, ist mit dem Composer Conductor-Workshop INK STILL WET garantiert, der 2019 vom Composer in Residence des Grafenegg Festivals Peter Ruzicka betreut wird. Komponistinnen und Komponisten aus Europa und Übersee sind eingeladen, sich mit Stücken zu bewerben, die vor Ort erarbeitet, selbst dirigiert und im Konzert einer breiten Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt werden.

CAMPUS GRAFENEGG MISSION STATEMENT

LEARNING WITH AND FROM EACH OTHER That learning doesn’t have to take place in the quiet of your own home or university or school classroom is just one of the most obvious advantages of Campus Grafenegg. The unique ambiance of castle, park and nature in Grafenegg and the famous Lower Austrian hospitality invite concert-goers, internationally celebrated stars and musicians from renowned orchestras from all over the world to spend time here – in the midst of a varied and vibrant musical cosmos that enriches all who come. All activities of the Campus share one idea: making and experiencing music together. The programme was created for university and music-school students, professional musicians and composers alike as a place of encounter, exchange and further education which enables them to directly present what they’ve worked on and in the best possible atmosphere – on the open air-stage Wolkenturm and in the concert hall Auditorium. Study opportunities hitherto available have been expanded in valuable ways: thanks to partnerships with the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Lower Austrian Youth Symphony Orchestra (JSO) and the Tonkunstler Orchestra, the Campus offers, in a unique form, a platform for musicians who are on their way to a professional career.

AT A GLANCE Collegiality becomes more than a buzzword; it’s a striking hallmark of the daily discussion.

The participants benefit from the presence of tutors who are respected practising musicians and who mentor them individually, as well as from dialogue with their peers, learning from each other. Fellow students are encouraged to get involved directly in the creative process, which can lead to an in-depth dialogue on different approaches. Collegiality becomes more than a buzzword; it’s a striking hallmark of the daily discussion. Forming new contacts here can be the basis of lasting artistic partnerships. At the same time, there is an intensive contact with audiences, who can both gain insights from the workshops and become a knowledgeable partner in the concerts. The backgrounds and contexts of the performed are illuminated by various events as well as in the dialogue among participants and between participants, tutors and conductors. Regular performances by the EUYO, which is orchestra in residence in Grafenegg and has its Summer Home here, and the Lower Austrian Youth Symphony Orchestra offer an insight into the ongoing support for young musicians at the Campus both for musicians from the region as from all around Europe.

CAMPUS GRAFENEGG MISSION STATEMENT

Another regular of the Campus is the ECMA, a network programme of music universities and festivals across Europe. Under its aegis, chamber music ensembles at the start of their international careers are invited to Grafenegg, where they can enjoy masterclasses with experienced colleagues and cover thematic background knowledge in so-called Music Labs. What’s common to all the activities of Campus Grafenegg is a focus on the aspects that are often overlooked in regular university life and that transcend purely technical perfection, for example: topics like «How do I deal with stage fright?», «How do I present my ensemble?» and «What information should I have about my selected repertoire?». One of the foundations of Campus Grafenegg in this respect is the Grafenegg Academy Orchestra, founded in 2018, which is made up of gifted young musicians at the start of their professional careers. They are given the opportunity to get to know the working process and the functioning of a symphony orchestra as well as to gain important tools for their musical future.

The overarching theme invites links between different interdisciplinary areas. The 2019 Campus takes place under the motto «Sight and Sound: Music and the Visual». Interdisciplinary connections and new concert formats offer new sources of inspiration for the musical work. This year’s Campus symposium also focuses on the theme and is aimed at teachers from music schools and creative academies as well as students and the members of the various participating Campus orchestras. The INK STILL WET composer conductor-workshop guarantees that, in addition to all the musical work on existing repertoire, the latest contemporary creative processes also enjoy the limelight. In 2019 it will be led by the Grafenegg Festival’s Composer in Residence Peter Ruzicka. Composers from Europe and abroad are invited to submit their pieces and that they can further develop, conduct and present to a broad listening public in a concert.

WER KANN DA SCHON WIDERSTEHEN? Musizieren mit Musikerinnen und Musikern aus der ganzen Welt. Die Vielfalt der Herkunftsländer und der Alters- und Ausbildungslevels der Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer des Campus ermöglicht einen unmittelbaren, spartenübergreifenden Erfahrungsaustausch, der alle Grenzen überwindet und aus dem ein weitreichendes Netzwerk resultiert.

Leben, Lernen und Auftritte vereinen sich in Grafenegg auf 32 Hektar zwischen Schloss, Wolkenturm, Cottages und Auditorium. Neben allem Arbeiten kommt auch die gemeinsame Freizeit nicht zu kurz. Die Vertiefung bestehender und der Aufbau neuer Freundschaften sind Teil der persönlichen Bilanz, die alle Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer aus Grafenegg mitnehmen.

Lernen voneinander. Musikerinnen und Musiker gewinnen in hohem Maß durch gegenseitigen Austausch. Kollegiales Lernen steht im Zentrum der Auseinandersetzung mit dem eigenen Musizieren am Campus Grafenegg.

Außergewöhnliche Aufführungsstätten. Die Verbindung aus historischer Bausubstanz mit modernster Konzertarchitektur und hervorragender Akustik, die Grafenegg mit seinem Schloss, dem Auditorium und der Open Air-Bühne Wolkenturm anbietet, stellt Proben- und Auftrittsorte dar, die ein einzigartiges Ambiente schaffen.

In spannenden Music Labs wartet auf die Musikerinnen und Musiker all das, was für ihren Beruf zusätzlich zu ihrer jeweiligen fachlichen Ausbildung wesentlich ist, aber nur selten während des Studienjahres vermittelt wird. Thematisiert werden unter anderem Bereiche wie Repertoire, Kontext, Auftrittsangst oder Audience Development. Namhafte Tutorinnen und Tutoren aus erstrangigen Klangkörpern wie dem Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Concertgebouw-Orchester, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks und BBC Symphony, Mitglieder namhafter Kammermusikensembles (Meta4 Streichquartett, Boulanger Trio, Artis-Quartett Wien) und auch der diesjährige Composer in Residence des Grafenegg Festivals‚ Peter Ruzicka, stehen für die Arbeit mit den Studierenden zur Verfügung und zeigen dabei vollen Einsatz. Klang trifft Kulisse. Einmal in Grafenegg gewesen, ist man von der atemberaubenden Szenerie begeistert. Natur, Schloss und prachtvoller Park sowie Kulinarik laden gleichermaßen zum entspannten Verweilen wie zu energiegeladenem Musizieren ein.

Zusätzliche Auftrittsmöglichkeiten bietet die Campus-Vielfalt im Rahmen von Music Galleries, Musik im Park, Préludes und Late Night Sessions sowie weiteren Veranstaltungen in und um Grafenegg. Konzerte am Wolkenturm und im Auditorium ziehen nicht nur ein internationales Publikum an, sondern sind für die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer des Campus während der Residenzen bei freiem Eintritt zugänglich. Teil-Werden als Alumni des Campus Grafenegg. Das Kennenlernen von Kolleginnen und Kollegen bildet die Grundlage für künftige künstlerische Partner- und Freundschaften, die von hier ihren Ausgang nehmen können.

TEN ARGUMENTS FOR TAKING PART

WHO COULD RESIST? Make music with musicians from all over the world. The diversity of the Campus participants’ countries of origin, ages and education levels enables a direct, interdisciplinary exchange of experience that overcomes all boundaries and results in a farreaching network. Learning from each other. Musicians have much to gain from dialogue. Collegial learning is at the centre of making music at Campus Grafenegg. A range of exciting Music Labs offers musicians all the extra knowledge that is essential for their specialist training but that is seldom conveyed during term time. Subjects covered amongst others will include repertoire, context, performance anxiety and audience development. Famous tutors from world-class orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and BBC Symphony are there to work with the students, offering their full commitment, along with members of famous chamber-music ensembles (Meta4, Boulanger Trio, Artis-Quartet Vienna) and this year’s Composer in Residence of the Grafenegg Festival, Peter Ruzicka. Sound meets scenery. Anyone who has been to Grafenegg has been struck by the breath-taking scenery. With beautiful nature, castle and stately park on the one hand and superb gastronomy on the other, this is the perfect place both to soak up the atmosphere and to engage in serious music-making. Living, learning and performing combine in Grafenegg over 32 hectares of grounds between the Castle, Wolkenturm, Cottages and Auditorium. Notwithstanding all the focus on working, the need for sociable downtime with colleagues isn’t forgotten.

Renewing old friendships and creating new ones are also part of the personal balance sheet that all participants take away with them from Grafenegg. Exceptional performance venues. The historical and contemporary concert-hall architecture that Grafenegg offers – its Castle, Auditorium and open airstage Wolkenturm – means rehearsal and performance venues with a unique ambiance and excellent acustics. Additional performance opportunities are offered as part of the diverse Campus programme with Music Galleries, Music in the Park, Preludes and Late Night Sessions as well as other events in and around Grafenegg. Concerts in the Wolkenturm and Auditorium not only attract an international audience but are also open to Campus participants free of charge during their residencies. Become part of an excquisite network as alumni of the Campus Grafenegg. Acquaintances made with colleagues here can form the basis of future artistic partnerships and friendships.

FORMATE

IM KERN ERFASST Die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer gewinnen nicht nur durch den Unterricht bei erfahrenen Tutorinnen und Tutoren, sondern auch in hohem Maß durch den gegenseitigen Austausch – das Lernen mit- und voneinander. Alle können sich unmittelbar in den kreativen Prozess einbringen und einen Diskurs über verschiedene Ansätze führen. Kollegialität wird zum markanten Kennzeichen der täglichen Auseinandersetzung. Als Bestandteil der Campus-Angebote werden über die Proben hinaus in den sogenannten Music Labs im Gespräch mit Expertinnen und Experten weitere wichtige Aspekte des zukünftigen Berufslebens vermittelt – darunter etwa der Umgang mit Auftrittsangst, die Präsentation in Konzerten und Musikvermittlung. Die Labs finden sowohl mit dem European Union Youth Orchestra als auch im Rahmen der European Chamber Music Academy statt. Im Vordergrund steht nicht das perfekte Spiel, sondern die Persönlichkeitsbildung als Musikerin und als Musiker. Die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse und das Erlernte leisten einen wesentlichen Beitrag für alle zukünftigen musikalischen Unternehmungen. Der Campus Grafenegg bietet darüber hinaus im Rahmen der Schlossklänge, der Sommerkonzerte und des Grafenegg Festivals die Möglichkeit für Auftritte in Abendkonzerten, Préludes, Pop-up Konzerte, Music Galleries, Late Night Sessions, Musik im Park und vieles mehr. Music Gallery. Ursprünglich im Schloss Grafenegg beheimatet, werden heuer erstmals auch renommierte Gemäldesammlungen und Museen, wie die Kunstmeile Krems als Veranstaltungsorte der Galleries herangezogen. Es ergibt sich von selbst, dass hier auch das Jahresthema «Klangkosmos und Bildwelten» im Vordergrund steht. Musikerinnen und Musiker des Campus Grafenegg sind eingeladen, sich in bereits bestehenden oder seitens des EUYO eigens dafür gebildeten Formationen der

Auseinandersetzung mit Meisterwerken der bildenden Künste zu stellen. Late Night Sessions. Kreativität und Spielfreude werden in Grafenegg nicht nur im Bereich der klassisch ausgerichteten Proben- und Konzertarbeit großgeschrieben. Mitglieder des EUYO finden sich nach den abendlichen Veranstaltungen in lockerer Atmosphäre zu kleineren Ensembles zusammen und bieten Nachtschwärmern einen Ausklang mit musikalischen Darbietungen, die außerhalb des üblichen Repertoires stehen und so dem an diesem Tag bereits Erlebten weitere farbige Facetten hinzufügen. Musik im Park führt die Besucherinnen und Besucher an den vier Festival-Sonntagen jeweils um 14.30 Uhr bei freiem Eintritt nach Grafenegg. Bei Spaziergängen im Grünen lassen sich aus unterschiedlichsten Formationen bestehende junge Ensembles des Campus außerhalb der klassischen Spielstätten erleben. Die verschiedenen dafür ausgesuchten Plätze im weiträumigen Schlosspark laden dazu ein, zu verweilen und Musik mit allen Sinnen mitten in der Natur auf sich einwirken zu lassen.

THE HEART OF THE MATTER The participants profit not only from teaching by experienced tutors but also, to a very great extent, from the exchange of ideas – learning with and from each other. Everyone can get involved directly in the creative process and hold a dialogue on different approaches. Collegiality becomes a striking hallmark of the daily discussion. As part of the Campus activities and going beyond the rehearsals, musicians attend Music Labs with expert tutors who share knowledge on issues that will become an important aspect of their working life outside of musical interpretation itself – including performance anxiety, repertoire and presentation skills and talking to one’s audience. The Labs take place with both the European Union Youth Orchestra and the European Chamber Music Academy. The focus is not on playing perfectly but on developing one’s personality as a musician in general. The insights and knowledge gained make a significant contribution to all future endeavours. But there’s no shortage of opportunities for performances at Campus Grafenegg, with evening concerts in the Schlossklänge as well as the Grafenegg Festival, the Preludes, Pop-up Concerts, Music Galleries, Late Night Sessions, Music in the Park and many more.

Music Gallery. Originally based in Grafenegg Castle, this year for the first time famous art galleries and museums such as the Kunstmeile Krems will be used as venues. Naturally, the year’s theme «Sight and Sound: Music and the Visual» will be in the foreground here too. Musicians from Campus Grafenegg are invited to engage in this dialogue with masterpieces of visual art in existing ensembles or ones specially formed by the European Union Youth Orchestra. Late Night Sessions. At Grafenegg, it’s not just in the classical rehearsals and concerts that creativity and sheer love of music-making are valued. Members of the EUYO get together in smaller ensembles in a more relaxed atmosphere after their evening events and give night owls the chance to experience musical performances outside of the usual repertoire, adding colourful facets to the experiences of the day. Music in the Park. At 02.30 P.M. on the four Festival Sundays, this event brings visitors to Grafenegg for walks in the park with varied young ensembles from the Campus playing outside of the conventional venues. The diverse settings chosen from across the extensive Castle grounds enable you to relax and enjoy the experience with all your senses in the midst of nature.

«KLANGKOSMOS UND BILDWELTEN» Die Vielfalt des Campus-Angebots findet eines ihrer vereinenden Elemente im dramaturgisch übergeordneten Jahresthema. Mit «Klangkosmos und Bildwelten» stehen 2019 die Verbindung verschiedener künstlerischer Welten und ihr Einwirken auf das Individuum und die Gesellschaft im Blickfeld. In den Orchesterkonzerten, Music Labs und Music Galleries kommen die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer und das Publikum auf verschiedenste Art immer wieder mit diesem Gedanken in Berührung. Sie zeigen, welche Wechselwirkungen sich auf ganz natürliche Weise zwischen Musik und visueller Wahrnehmung ergeben und wie diese gezielt entstehen können. Dies schafft interdisziplinäre Verknüpfungen und bietet eine unmittelbare Inspirationsquelle für das musikalische Arbeiten. Mehrere Programme stellen musikalisches Gestalten vor den Hintergrund bildnerischen Schaffens der letzten Jahrhunderte. Dabei wird in gezielter Reaktion auf den jeweiligen Ort – Schloss Grafenegg ebenso wie ausgewählte Museen in Niederösterreich und Wien – eingegangen. Die Verbindung aus Klang und Bild ermöglicht für Publikum wie Musizierende ein Neu-Erleben der Kunst, die sie umgibt. Auch das diesjährige Symposium zum Campus widmet sich dem Jahresthema und richtet sich an Lehrende von Musikschulen und Kreativ-Akademien, an Studierende und die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer der verschiedenen Campus-Klangkörper. In den Music Labs der European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) wird in Hinblick auf das breite Feld der Filmmusik und die aktuellen technisch schier unerschöpflichen Möglichkeiten von Sounddesign gearbeitet werden.

Eine der faszinierenden Möglichkeiten, sich «Klangkosmos und Bildwelten» zu erschließen, wird am 21. Juli in Grafenegg angeboten. Das Publikum begleitet Musikerinnen und Musiker des European Union Youth Orchestra auf vier Pfaden durch das Schloss. Anhand von Beispielen wie Edward Elgars «Enigma-Variationen», Joseph Haydns «Sonnenaufgang»-Quartett oder Benjamin Brittens Sea Interludes kann ein unmittelbares Zusammentreffen von Klang und Bildern erlebt werden. Auch die abendlichen Veranstaltungen greifen bildliche Darstellungen in der Musik auf, wie sie etwa in Ludwig van Beethovens musikalisches Historiengemälde «Wellingtons Sieg oder Die Schlacht bei Vittoria» und in Nikolai Rimski-Korsakows symphonischer Märchenerzählung «Scheherazade» verwirklicht sind. Letztere wird das Jugendsinfonieorchester Niederösterreich vom Campus ausgehend sowohl in Grafenegg (10. August) als auch im Rahmen einer großen Music Gallery unter dem Motto «Tausend und ein Klang» (11. August) auf dem Hauptplatz in Melk zum Erklingen bringen.

«SIGHT AND SOUND: MUSIC AND THE VISUAL» All of the varied Campus activities share one overarching annual theme. The theme for 2019, «Sight and Sound: Music and the Visual», focuses on the connection between artistic worlds and their impact on the individual and society. In the orchestral concerts, Music Labs and Music Galleries participants and audience alike experience this thought in ever varying ways. Thus it is being showed that interactions between music and visual perception emerge quite naturally and also can specifically be targeted and intentionally generated. This creates interdisciplinary links and forms a source of direct inspiration for the musical works. Several programmes present music in a context of the visual creativity of past centuries, giving specific responses to each location – Grafenegg Castle and selected museums in Lower Austria and Vienna. The combination of sound and image enables the audience as well as the musicians to re-experience the art surrounding them. This year’s Campus symposium also focuses on the theme and is aimed at teachers from music schools and creative academies as well as students and the members of the various participating Campus orchestras. In the Music Labs of the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), participants will work with a focus on the broad realm of film music and the well-nigh inexhaustible possibilities of sound design.

One of the fascinating opportunities to explore «Sight and Sound: Music and the Visual» is offered on 21 July at Grafenegg Castle, where the audience is accompanied by musicians from the European Union Youth Orchestra on four pathways and can experience a direct encounter between sound and images with reference to examples such as Edward Elgar’s «Enigma Variations», Joseph Haydn’s «Sunrise»-quartett and Benjamin Britten’s Sea Interludes. The evening events also draw on visual representations in music, as created for example in Ludwig van Beethoven’s musical history painting «Wellington’s Victory, or, the Battle of Vitoria» and Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic fairy-tale «Scheherazade». The latter will be performed by the Lower Austrian Youth Symphony Orchestra both in Grafenegg (10 August) and in a big Music Gallery (11 August) in Melk’s main square under the motto «Thousand and One Sound».

Das künstlerische und pädagogische Angebot des Campus Grafenegg wird Anfang Juli durch ein gemeinsam mit dem Musikschulmanagement Niederösterreich veranstaltetes Symposium ergänzt. Unter dem Jahresthema «Klangkosmos und Bildwelten» richtet es sich an Lehrende der Musikschulen und Kreativ-Akademien, Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer des Talentförderungsprogramms, Musikerinnen und Musiker aus Ensembles und Orchestern sowie Studierende an Kunstuniversitäten. Vortragende werden sich mit dem Thema eines gesamtheitlichen Blicks auf die vielen Perspektiven der Kreativität, Herausforderungen für Kunst- und Kulturschaffende in einer modernen Gesellschaft sowie mit interdisziplinären Zugängen in der Erarbeitung von Werken auseinandersetzen. Beim Round Table wird ein breiter Gedankenaustausch auch die Zuhörerinnen und Zuhörer einbeziehen, ebenso fördert der offene Rahmen den unmittelbaren Dialog zwischen Lehrenden, bereits voll im Berufsleben und noch in Ausbildung befindlichen Musikerinnen und Musikern. Weitere Inhalte des Symposiums gelten Best Practice und dem breiten Spektrum der Musikvermittlung. Zudem werden Alumni des Campus Grafenegg in Workshops ihre Erfahrungen einbringen. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit verdient in diesem Zusammenhang auch der Orchesterworkshop «Mit Bildern arbeiten», dessen Ergebnisse in einer Abschlusspräsentation vorgestellt werden. At the beginning of July the artistic and educational offer of Campus Grafenegg will be complemented by a symposium organised in cooperation with the Music School Management Lower Austria, dedicated to the year’s theme of «Sight and Sound: Music and the Visual» and aimed at teachers at music schools and creative academies, participants in the talent-promotion programme, musicians from ensembles and orchestras and students at art universities. Lecturers will discuss the topic of a holistic view on the many perspectives of creativity, challenges for artists and those involved in culture in a modern society as well as with interdisciplinary approaches in music education. At the round table a wide-ranging exchange of views will take place, including input from listeners, with the open format encouraging direct dialogue between teachers and musicians, both established professionals and students. Other subjects under discussion at the symposium will be best practice and the broad spectrum of music education. Alumni of Campus Grafenegg will also add their experience in workshops. The orchestral workshop «Working with images», whose findings will be shown in a concluding presentation, also merits special note in this context. Mit Spannung darf man der European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) entgegensehen, die vom 19. bis 26. Mai stattfindet und somit die erfolgreiche Partnerschaft mit Grafenegg fortsetzt. Sie gilt international als eine der zentralen Anlaufstellen für Kammermusikerinnen und Kammermusiker und hat sich als Talenteschmiede für Spitzenensembles von morgen etabliert. Passend zum Jahresmotto «Chamber Music and the Visual: Images and Sounds» werden die Tutorinnen und Tutoren Hatto Beyerle, Johannes Meissl, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, David Dolan, Vida Vujic sowie die ECMA-Alumni Minna Pennsola und Karla Haltenwanger öffentliche Meisterklassen mit den teilnehmenden Ensembles abhalten. Während der einwöchigen Arbeitsphase findet zudem eine Reihe an Music Labs statt, in denen dem diesjährigen Thema gemäß Aspekte von Filmmusik und Sounddesign ebenso behandelt werden wie die Faszination der Wechselwirkung von akustischen und optischen Räumen. Anwendung finden dabei moderne Vermittlungsmethoden, mit denen ECMA-Teilnehmerinnen und -Teilnehmer sowie Ensembles der Talenteförderung des Musikschulmanagements Niederösterreich Gelegenheit erhalten, unmittelbar voneinander zu lernen. In dem von Harald Haslmayr moderierten Abschlusskonzert «Best of ECMA» bringen Ensembles der ECMA ausgewählte Schätze der Kammermusik zur Aufführung, die in Grafenegg erarbeitet wurden. Besonders freuen darf man sich auch auf die Sonntagsmatinee des Quatuor Akilone, das mit Meisterwerken von Mozart und Brahms seinen Rang als eines der aufsteigenden französischen Spitzenstreichquartette untermauern wird.

We can look forward with excitement to the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), taking place from 19 to 26 May 2019 and continuing its successful partnership with Grafenegg. Widely regarded as one of the world’s central meeting places for chamber musicians, it can be seen as a talent incubator for the top ensembles of tomorrow. In line with the year’s motto «Chamber Music and the Visual: Images and Sounds», the tutors Hatto Beyerle, Johannes Meissl, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, David Dolan, Vida Vujic and ECMA alumni Minna Pennsola and Karla Haltenwanger will give public masterclasses with the participating ensembles. During the one-week working phase there is also a series of Music Labs in which, in line with this year’s theme, aspects of film music and sound design are examined as well as the fascinating interaction of acoustic and optical spaces. Modern educational methods are used to enable the ECMA participants and ensembles from the talentpromotion programme of the Music School Management Lower Austria to learn directly from each other. In «Best of ECMA», the concluding concert presented by Harald Haslmayr, the ensembles of the ECMA perform selected chamber music treasures after working on them in Grafenegg. This is followed by a particularly exciting Sunday matinee of Quator Akilone, justifying their status as one of France’s finest emerging string quartets with masterpieces by Mozart and Brahms.

Welche der vier konstituierenden Elemente Bild, Sprache, Filmmusik und Sounddesign stehen im Vordergrund, welche werden zurückgedrängt oder ausgeblendet? Wie beeinflussen sich die Elemente gegenseitig? Wie kommt es zu unserer seit 400 Jahren unveränderten Orchesteraufstellung? Was sind «Reisen» durch die Tonarten? Warum kommen wir ohne die Kategorie der «Klangfarbe» nicht aus? Und warum bleibt der Ton stets «ein Fremdling im Raum»? - Dieser Vortrag soll anhand zahlreicher Beispiele aus der (Musik-)Geschichte Licht in Zusammenhänge bringen, die so zählebig und dominierend sind, dass sie uns kaum noch bewusst sind. «SOUND HERE BECOMES SPACE – ON THE INTERPLAY OF ACOUSTIC AND VISUAL SPACES» Where does the concept of «high» or «low» notes come from? It was so exciting to discover new insights about our own pieces and collaborate with such extraordinary musicians and colleagues in bringing them to life! I am always inspired by everyone’s dedication and musicianship, performing music of every era – from Beethoven to Britten to world premieres of our own – with such passion and joy. Eine erfreuliche Zusammenarbeit verbindet Grafenegg seit 2014 mit dem Jugendsinfonieorchester Niederösterreich (JSO), das jährlich zwei Konzerte als Préludes zu Auftritten des European Union Youth Orchestra und des TonkünstlerOrchesters Niederösterreich gestaltet. Für die bereits traditionelle Aufführung am Ostersonntag werden Mozarts «Zauberflöten»-Ouvertüre und Schuberts Symphonie h-Moll D 759, die «Unvollendete», vorbereitet. Im Sommer ist Nikolai Rimski-Korsakows farbenprächtige symphonische Suite «Scheherazade» zu hören. Das JSO stellt eines der wichtigsten Jugendorchester Österreichs dar und versammelt rund 85 Musikerinnen und Musiker aus der Region, die sich hier zum musikalischen Miteinander finden. Gemeinsam erarbeiten sie unter der Leitung ihres Chefdirigenten Vladimir Prado zentrale Repertoirewerke des internationalen Konzertbetriebs. Die inhaltliche Vorbereitung der Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer erfolgt durch Mitglieder des Tonkünstler-Orchesters. Von den Konzerten am Campus Grafenegg ausgehend, wird es in diesem Jahr auch zwei Musikvermittlungsprojekte in der Stadt Melk geben: «Ein Gesprächskonzert mit Franz» zu Franz Schuberts Symphonie h-Moll D 759 «Unvollendete» in der als Veranstaltungsort adaptierten Tischlerei Melk sowie «Tausend und ein Klang» am Hauptplatz. Damit trägt das Orchester die Musik gezielt in den öffentlichen Raum.

Since 2014 Grafenegg has enjoyed a delightful collaboration with the Lower Austrian Youth Symphony Orchestra (JSO), which has performed two concerts each year as Preludes to performances by the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Tonkunstler Orchestra. Mozart’s «Magic Flute» overture and Schubert’s Symphony in B minor D. 759 «Unfinished» are being prepared for what has already become a traditional performance to mark Easter Sunday, and in summer Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov’s colourful symphonic suite «Scheherazade» will be performed. The JSO is one of Austria’s most important youth orchestras, uniting around 85 musicians from the region in musical collaboration. Together they rehearse central repertoire works of international concert life under the baton of their Music Director Vladimir Prado. Members of the Tonkunstler Orchestra help the participants get to grips with the musical content. This year the concerts on Campus Grafenegg will also be the basis for two music education projects in the city of Melk: «An Encounter with Franz» on Franz Schubert’s Symphony in B minor D. 759 «Unfinished», in the converted former furniture workshop Tischlerei Melk, now a music venue, and «Thousand and One Sound» in the Main Square, with music consciously placed into the public realm by the orchestra.

Eine tragende Säule dabei ist das 2018 gegründete Grafenegg Academy Orchestra, welches sich aus den besten jungen Musikerinnen und Musikern am Beginn ihrer professionellen Karriere jedes Jahr neu zusammensetzt. Diese kommen aus der ganzen Welt und leben den vom Campus Grafenegg entworfenen interdisziplinären Zugang zum Orchesterrepertoire. Sie alle verbindet das ausgeprägte Interesse an einer Weiterbildung, die über die rein technischen Aspekte des Musizierens hinausgeht und Musik als Verbindung von Kultur, Geschichte, Politik und Gesellschaft versteht. Neugierde, Offenheit für neue Ideen und der Ehrgeiz, in der musikalischen Landschaft von morgen führend zu sein, sind gemeinsame Eigenschaften der Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer. Zu ihnen gesellen sich renommierte und interessante Dirigentinnen und Dirigenten sowie Künstlerpersönlichkeiten, die in ihrer eigenen Arbeit großen Wert auf die umfassende Auseinandersetzung mit Werken und den Umständen ihrer Entstehung legen und den Orchestermitgliedern weitreichende Impulse für ein neues Spielen, Hören und Begreifen von Musik vermitteln.

After the acclaimed pilot project in 2018, the Grafenegg Academy returns in summer 2020. One of its pillars is the Grafenegg Academy Orchestra. Founded in 2018, it is every year newly made up of gifted young musicians at the start of their professional careers. They come from all over the world and embody the interdisciplinary approach to the orchestral repertoire taken by Campus Grafenegg. What connects all of them is a well-developed interest in a further education that transcends purely technical aspects of music-making, understanding music as a combination of culture, history, politics and society. The participants share a curiosity, openness to new ideas and ambition to take the lead in the musical landscape of tomorrow. They are joined by renowned and interesting conductors and artists whose own practice emphasises probing deeply into works and the circumstances of their creation and who can offer the orchestral players far-reaching inspiration for new ways of playing, hearing and understanding music.

EUROPEAN UNION YOUTH ORCHESTRA Das European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) zählt zu den führenden Jugendsymphonieorchestern der Welt. Unterstützt von den Mitgliedsländern der Europäischen Union, wird es von EU-Kommissionspräsident Jean-Claude Juncker als «der bestmögliche Botschafter für die Europäische Union» bezeichnet. Der 1976 gegründete Klangkörper hat mit einer Vielzahl renommierter Dirigenten und Künstlerpersönlichkeiten zusammengearbeitet, darunter Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein und Herbert von Karajan, seine früheren musikalischen Leiter Claudio Abbado und Vladimir Ashkenazy, sein Ehrendirigent Bernard Haitink und Chefdirigent Vasily Petrenko. Die mehr als 3.000 Alumni des EUYO sind heute beachtenswerte Dirigentinnen und Dirigenten, Solistinnen und Solisten, Lehrerinnen und Lehrer und Instrumentalistinnen und Instrumentalisten, die mit renommierten Orchestern auf der ganzen Welt zusammenarbeiten. Seit 2018 ist das EUYO Orchestra in Residence in Grafenegg. Im selben Jahr zog der Hauptsitz des Orchesters von London nach Ferrara, Italien. In einer gemeinsamen Initiative bieten der Campus Grafenegg und das European Union Youth Orchestra jungen Musikerinnen und Musikern professionelle Weiterentwicklungsmöglichkeiten für den Einstieg in das Berufsleben. In Grafenegg, wo das Publikum den Esprit dieses jugendlichen Klangkörpers schon einige Male erleben durfte, ist das European Union Youth Orchestra in unterschiedlichen Erscheinungsformen zu erleben: Im Frühling präsentiert das Orchester ein Osterkonzert, im Sommer bezieht es sein Summer Home und begeistert mit Konzerten, einer Music Gallery, Late Night Sessions und weiteren besonderen Formaten.

The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) is one of the world’s pre-eminent youth symphony orchestras, hailed by EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker as «the best possible ambassador for the European Union» and supported by the EU and its member states. Founded in 1976, the EUYO has worked with many notable artists including Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, founding Music Director Claudio Abbado, former Music Director Vladimir Ashkenazy, former Music Director and current Conductor Laureate Bernard Haitink and current Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko. Its members are aged 16 to 26, and the Orchestra’s more than 3,000 alumni are now notable conductors, soloists, teachers and instrumentalists working with major orchestras throughout the world. In 2018, with Grafenegg as the EUYO’s Summer Home and Principal Venue Partner, the EUYO became Orchestra in Residence at Grafenegg, in the same year moving its headquarters from London to Italy. Campus Grafenegg and the EUYO jointly offer opportunities for professional development to young musicians. The Grafenegg public has had many opportunities to experience the unique spirit of this orchestra. In spring, the Orchestra presents its Spring Concert and during July it returns with a series of concerts, a Music Gallery, Late Night Sessions and other special events.

EUROPEAN CHAMBER MUSIC ACADEMY Die European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) hat sich in den 15 Jahren ihres Bestehens als die europäische Talenteschmiede für junge professionelle Kammermusikensembles etabliert. Europäische Spitzenausbildungsinstitutionen und führende Festivals kooperieren in einem sich über ganz Europa bis Shanghai erstreckenden Ausbildungs- und Förderprogramm für die besten jungen Formationen von Streichquartett und Klaviertrio bis Saxophonquartett. Experimentelle Offenheit, künstlerische Eigenständigkeit und das Know-how für aktive Mitgestaltung der zukünftigen Musikwelt auf Basis der großen europäischen Traditionen der Kammermusik kennzeichnen die 2004 auf Initiative von Hatto Beyerle gegründete ECMA. In einem zweijährigen Weiterbildungsprogramm mit insgesamt acht einwöchigen Sessions pro Jahr, ab 2019 mit dem ECMAster auch in einer regulären akademischen Variante, erhalten die Ensembles intensive Betreuung durch renommierte Tutorinnen und Tutoren im kulturellen Kontext der verschiedenen Länder. Der künstlerischen Reflexion wird mit kulturhistorischen, philosophischen und transdisziplinären Vorträgen und Workshops großer Raum gegeben. Die ECMA setzt auch Akzente in Richtung praxisorientierte Forschung und Verbindung der Künste und der Wissenschaften. Dazu kommt eine wachsende Anzahl von regelmäßigen Kooperationen mit renommierten Veranstaltern, wie etwa der Wigmore Hall London und dem Konzerthaus Berlin, sowie mit hochrangigen Festivals, wie dem Flanders Festival Ghent (Gent) oder dem Festival Pablo Casals. Over the last 15 years, the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) has established itself as Europe’s talent incubator for young professional chambermusic ensembles. Top European educational institutions and leading festivals cooperate in a training and support programme encompassing all of Europe and ranging as far as Shanghai. It is aimed at the best young groups, from string quartets and piano trios to saxophone quartets. Experimental openness, artistic autonomy and the expertise to actively collaborate on shaping the future world of music on the basis of the great European traditions of chamber music are the hallmarks of the ECMA, founded on the initiative of Hatto Beyerle in 2004. In a two-year furthereducation programme with a total of eight one-week sessions per year, and from 2019 with a regular academic variant in the form of the ECMAster, the ensembles are given intensive mentoring from renowned tutors in the cultural context of the different countries. Die traditionelle Sommernachtsgala Grafenegg mit dem TonkünstlerOrchester wird alljährlich in Österreich und mehreren Ländern Europas im Fernsehen und im Radio ausgestrahlt. In den Konzerten am Wolkenturm beweisen die Musikerinnen und Musiker ihre stilistische Vielseitigkeit, mit Aufführungen und Uraufführungen zeitgenössischer Werke stellen sie sich dem aktuellen Musikgeschehen. Beim Grafenegg Festival arbeiten die Tonkünstler eng mit dem jeweiligen Composer in Residence zusammen, darunter bisher HK Gruber, Krzysztof Penderecki, Jörg Widmann und Ryan Wigglesworth. Komponisten wie Arvo Pärt, Kurt Schwertsik, Friedrich Cerha und Bernd Richard Deutsch schrieben Auftragswerke für das Orchester. Am Campus Grafenegg geben die Musikerinnen und Musiker ihr Wissen und ihre Erfahrungen an den musikalischen Nachwuchs weiter; beim jährlichen Composer ConductorWorkshop INK STILL WET stehen die Tonkünstler als Werkstatt-Orchester zur Verfügung und werden beim Abschlusskonzert von den teilnehmenden Nachwuchskomponistinnen und -komponisten dirigiert. Grafenegg is one of the three residencies of the Tonkunstler Orchestra, one of the biggest and most important institutions of Austrian music culture. Each year the traditional Grafenegg Midsummer Night’s Gala, featuring the orchestra, is broadcast on TV and radio in Austria as well as in several other European countries. In the concerts at the Wolkenturm, the musicians demonstrate their stylistic versatility; they tackle contemporary musical culture with performances and premieres of contemporary works. At the Grafenegg Festival, the Tonkunstler Orchestra works in close partnership with the Composers in Residence, whose numbers have so far included HK Gruber, Krzysztof Penderecki, Jörg Widmann, and Ryan Wigglesworth. Composers such as Arvo Pärt, Kurt Schwertsik, Friedrich Cerha, and Bernd Richard Deutsch have written commissioned works for the Orchestra. At Campus Grafenegg, the musicians pass on their knowledge and experience to the next musical generation; at the annual composer conductor-workshop INK STILL WET, the Tonkunstler offer their services as in-house orchestra and are conducted by the participating emerging composers at the concluding concert. During the Grafenegg Festival the Tonkunstler Orchestra, as orchestra in residence, creates ambitious concert programmes, including the festival opening. Its musicians can be heard in various chambermusic ensembles over the summer in numerous Preludes.

Jugendliche Musikschülerinnen und Musikschüler aus Niederösterreich tauchen im Rahmen ihrer Sommerarbeitsphase in die weite Welt der klassischen Orchestermusik ein. Gemeinsam mit ihrem Tutorinnen- und Tutorenteam aus den Reihen des Tonkünstler-Orchesters Niederösterreich erarbeiten sie ein symphonisches Konzertprogramm, das sie unter der Leitung ihres Chefdirigenten Vladimir Prado im Rahmen von zwei Préludes in Grafenegg präsentieren. Neben der intensiven Probenarbeit in den einzelnen Stimmgruppen sowie im Orchesterkollektiv bietet auch das Musizieren in verschiedenen Kammermusikformationen ein breites Betätigungsfeld zur künstlerischen Weiterentwicklung. Darüber hinaus dürfen der Campusgedanke im sommerlichen Grafenegg sowie der Austausch unter den Musikerinnen und Musikern nicht zu kurz kommen. Der so entfachte Enthusiasmus und die Musizierfreude der jungen Musikerinnen und Musiker sind dabei stets spürbar und garantieren große Momente – für die jungen Talente gleichermaßen wie für das Publikum.

During their summer working phase, young music students from Lower Austria immerse themselves in the wide world of classical orchestral music. Together with their team of tutors recruited from the ranks of the Tonkunstler Orchestra, they work on a symphonic concert programme that they then present conducted by their Music Director Vladimir Prado as part of the two Preludes. In addition to the intensive rehearsal work in the individual instrument groups and with the orchestra as a collective, music-making in various chambermusic formations also offers varied opportunities for personal artistic development. Not forgetting, of course, the Campus concept in the Grafenegg summer sun and the chance to network with fellow musicians. The young musicians’ enthusiasm and love for music can always be felt, guaranteeing memorable moments for both the young talents and the audience.

OPEN AIR-BÜHNE OPEN AIR-STAGE

Neben dem historischen Schloss wurde die Open AirBühne Wolkenturm längst selbst zum modernen Symbol Grafeneggs. Vom Architektenduo the next ENTERprise, bestehend aus Marie-Therese Harnoncourt und Ernst J. Fuchs, entworfen, entstand ein architektonisches und akustisches Meisterwerk. Die besten Orchester sowie Solistinnen und Solisten geben sich auf der futuristischen Konstruktion aus Beton, Stahl und Glas ein Stelldichein. Der Wolkenturm bietet 1.700 Sitzplätze und 300 Rasenplätze.

With the open air-stage Wolkenturm, Grafenegg’s centuries-old architectural landscape and historic Castle gained a modern emblem. The architectural and sonic masterpiece was designed by the architects Marie-Therese Harnoncourt and Ernst J. Fuchs from the next ENTERprise. Made of concrete, steel, and glass, the stage hosts the best orchestras and soloists. The Wolkenturm has a capacity of 1,700 seats, as well as lawn seating for over 300 people.

Der Konzertsaal Auditorium vereint Tradition und Moderne. Mit großzügigen Glasfassaden und Glasgängen vereint er das Neue mit der historischen Reitschule und der Schlosstaverne. Der technisch und akustisch herausragende Konzertsaal, vom renommierten Münchner Akustiker Karlheinz Müller konzipiert, wird ganzjährig bespielt. Das Auditorium bietet auf drei Ebenen Platz für über 1.300 Zuschauer.

The concert hall Auditorium stands for the link between the traditional and the modern in Grafenegg. Located between the historic Riding School and the Schlosstaverne, a fluid connection to the historical buildings was created through wall openings and glass transition spaces. The technically and acoustically outstanding hall, planned by the renowned Munich acoustician Karlheinz Müller, serves year-round as the main concert venue. The Auditorium offers seating for an audience of over 1,300 on three levels.

HAVING A REST

GRAFENEGG COTTAGES Am Rand des Schlossparks, unweit von Schloss und Wolkenturm, befinden sich 16 modern ausgestattete Cottages mit Parkzugang. Sie verfügen über vier jeweils getrennt begehbare Schlafzimmer mit Bad und einen zentralen Aufenthaltsraum (Patio) mit großem Esstisch, gemütlicher Sofa-Ecke und einer voll ausgestatteten Küche. Insgesamt stehen 128 Betten zur Verfügung. Aufgrund des Schließsystems mit Nummerncode, der den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern des Campus vor Anreise per E-Mail bekannt gegeben wird, braucht es weder Schlüssel noch Karte. Das Cottage bzw. Zimmer kann jederzeit mit diesem Nummerncode betreten werden. Speziell für die Campus-Musikerinnen und -Musiker sind im Zimmerpreis viele Leistungen inkludiert, wie unter anderem wöchentliche Vollreinigung der Cottages mit Wäschewechsel, tägliche Möglichkeit zum Wechsel der Handtücher, Gratisnutzung des Waschcontainers inklusive Waschmittel und 24-Stunden-Notdienst. Die Alte Scheune in unmittelbarer Nähe der Cottages spielt als sozialer Treffpunkt eine wichtige Rolle im CampusLeben. Hier wird gemeinsam gegessen, gelacht, gegeneinander im Tischfußball angetreten oder bei einem guten Buch entspannt.

Within the historic gardens, in walking distance of the castle and the Wolkenturm, 16 new Cottages have been built alongside a small river. Each Cottage has 4 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, a living room with dining and lounge areas and a fully equipped kitchen. In total the Cottages offer accommodation for 128 guests. The innovative entry system with a code which will be sent to the guests prior to their arrival gives access to the Cottages and rooms without key or card. This allows flexible check-in and check-out. Campus Musicians who are guests in the Cottages will be able to use the «Old Barn» in the middle of the Cottages which can be used for meals and entertainment for the entire group during their stay. A laundry room is available and the bedrooms which are fully equipped with linen and towels will be cleaned at predetermined intervals.
