FROM THE PRESIDENT Now that we’re in the peak of season, there’s a great deal of activity at Desert Princess. Whatever your interests are, I hope you’re thoroughly enjoying yourself. By now you should have received your ballot for the annual election of the Board of Directors, which will be held on February 22, 2014. This year, two (2) seats will be open. The candidates seeking election to the Board are Don Milligan, John Purdy, and Michelle Simson. Please join me in thanking them for their willingness to volunteer their time and service. Don’t forget to vote for the candidate(s) of your choice. With your two (2) votes, you can vote for one (1) or two (2) candidates, but not twice for the same person. There will also be a Candidates Forum on February 8th at 3:00 pm in the Masters Lounge where you can listen to the candidates speak and ask them questions. There continues to be activity at Desert Princess Homes, the newest addition to our community with 122 new villas. The three new models are well underway, irrigation lines have been run to the new development, and much more work will commence shortly. The sales offices, located in the old models, are open if you would like to get a preview of what’s to come and pick up some literature. The first draft of the revised ballot measure for Condo Patio Extensions, prepared by our attorneys, was reviewed at the January 24th Board meeting. This has been sent back to Legal for some clarification. The ballot package should be approved at the next Board meeting and then sent out to the homeowners for a vote shortly thereafter. A new irrigation system for the golf course is still being studied and evaluated. I have recently directed our controller, Pam Jaymes, to complete various cash flow projections, for both operations and reserves, to determine the merit as well as the feasibility of this project. There is a rumor circulating around the community that the installation of a new irrigation system for the golf course would solely benefit the golfers. There is nothing further

from the truth. The main purpose of installing a new system is to save operating costs (estimated to be as much as $200,000 per year), save precious water, and to be better prepared for the time when CVWD mandates restrictions on water usage. This benefits all homeowners. In addition, and thanks to a great idea by Golf Course Superintendent Jonas Conlan, the golf course irrigation system is now supplying the HOA irrigation system with well water which is far less expensive that the potable water previously used and purchased from CVWD. The savings related to this are substantial. Many think proceeding with a new irrigation system is a no brainer, and they may be absolutely correct. However, since it is such a large expenditure, we must be certain that doing such doesn’t adversely affect our financial position or hinder the completion of other worthwhile projects. My one (1) year term as your President is coming to an end concurrent with the Annual Meeting, at which time the Board will elect its officers for the next year. Although I have held the positions of Vice-President and/or Treasurer for the past five (5) years, being President allowed me the opportunity to work closely with more of the staff. It also gave me the opportunity to interact with many of the homeowners, which has been a pleasure. I’d like to say with all certainty that as a community we are very fortunate to have such a wonderful and talented group of employees. They make Desert Princess the great place that it is in which to live or vacation. Because the list of employees to thank is too long to mention here, I’d just like to say thank you to all staff members for a job very well done! COUNTRY CLUB MANAGER’S REPORT Can you believe the weather we are having this season? Most of the East coast is in a deep freeze and here we are having to rough it in the 70 degree winters of the desert. As we all know, the phenomenal winter weather is one of the great things about the Coachella Valley and I am happy to see you all out there enjoying it. It is fantastic to see Desert Princess busy with all of the members who have returned for another great season. As we are making our way through my first season here at Desert Princess, I wanted to thank all of you for your passion and dedication to making the Desert Princess a great place. Over my first six months here, many of you have taken the time to come sit down with me and discuss your feelings about the club, both positive and negative. I can’t tell you how much those conversations are appreciated as it helps me not only to grow as a manager, but allows us to grow as a team. I will continue to reach out to you through surveys as a group or as individuals so that we can make sure we are moving in the right direction. Lastly, it was very nice to see nearly 75 of you at our Athletic Center and Spa mixer. The tennis and pickle ball courts were packed with players and there were several members enjoying the complimentary chairs massages. Above all, it was a fantastic evening of good food, good music and great fellowship. We look forward to putting on more events this season so that you have an opportunity to meet and mingle with your neighbors. Golf Cart Requirements Cart Owners must provide verification of liability insurance at the time of registration. Annual tags may be picked up from the Homeowners Association Office or the Club Admin Office. Drivers of carts must be licensed . All golf carts must be registered with the Association and display a valid registration decal with current year stickers “tags” displaying owner membership and/ or golf membership. Failure to register your golf cart by November 1, 2013 but no later than December 31, 2013 or at time of purchase will result in a $500 Fine.

They figure if you don’t want to get hurt, you shouldn’t have filed for office. They figure whatever happens to us, our lives will be better than theirs.” But for those living in this community, perhaps the opposite should be considered. Negativity causes distention, absence of trust and most of all, a dysfunctional team.

Due to safety concerns, it was recommended that staff install pads on the pool and spa rails. This project has been completed and is depicted at right as well.

There have been several communications floating around this community regarding candidates and upcoming Board elections. Regardless as to whether they are true or false, please try to be mindful that you all live in this community together and all strive for the betterment of this community. You work together, not against each other. Have a united front.

FROM THE CHIEFS CORNER Drought and extreme fire conditions in January? Generally, this time of year we focus on storm preparedness, safe driving in the rain, flood safety and erosion concerns. But drought? Droughts are also persisting elsewhere. Portions of Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Kansas, Texas, Utah, Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Oklahoma are drought prone as well. Will we have enough water to plant crops, water livestock, or keep trees and vines alive? What about golf? Will we be playing on greens or browns? Wait until personal use at home is rationed. Your car? We all love ours, but it’s going to be dirty! How about snow skiing? Lets’ scratch that! What a tremendous personal and economic impact this can have on us. Did I mention the harm droughts cause to wildlife? The drought doesn't bode well for California's wildfire season either. People say that the fire season is starting early, but I guess you could say it never ended. An example is the recent Colby fire in the foothills of Glendora destroying homes and over 2,000 acres reminds Chief DiGiovanna. “No pun intended, but this is only a ‘drop in the bucket’ of things to concern ourselves with. Though we love to enjoy and boast about our weather, however this drought is a wake-up call to re-examine all of our water uses and redouble the commitment to conserve every possible drop." FROM THE PRO SHOP With the arrival of spring, we at DPCC must do some much needed house cleaning. Over the past few months, the Pro Shop is missing range baskets and range tokens. The Pro Shop would appreciate your help in getting any missing range baskets and range tokens returned. Jonas and his staff have done a terrific job maintaining the golf course this year. It is up to all of us to assist the maintenance staff in this critical endeavor. All golfers can aid in keeping the course in its current condition by: Filling divots with sand, repairing ball marks, and following proper cart rules. Carts should stay on paths around the green and tees and please never go inside the cart directions signs up by the green. Golfers with Handicap flag privileges should always stay at least 30 feet from greens, use the cart path next to greens whenever possible and never have your cart between the green and any bunkers or water hazard. Please remember Handicap flags are a privilege, not a right! Violation of these conditions may result in the loss of the privilege. Remember, someone is always watching a Desert Princess! On Tuesday, January 21st, the Ladies Club hosted a guest day themed, “Around the World in 18 Holes.” The tournament was a great success and a good time was had by all. Everyone enjoyed the format, the prizes, and especially the luncheon with the exceptional dessert!!! The Member/Member Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, January 25th and Sunday, January 26th. The very popular annual Winter Classic is scheduled for February 6th, 7th, 8th, 2014. This year’s theme is “Going for the Gold.” The Putting Contest and Horserace are scheduled for the 6th and a Partner Better Ball, Eclectic for the 7th and the 8th. The President’s Cup is scheduled for Saturday, February 15th and Sunday, February 16th. The final results of all these events will be available in the March edition of The Royal Page. The Spa and Tennis/Athletics Center Mixer on Saturday, January 25 was a great success! Spa Director Merryl Rose and Tennis/Athletics Director Charlie Moore welcomed over 70 Desert Princess homeowners to the season kick-off party. The tennis and pickle ball courts were full and many took advantage of the complimentary chairs massages. The event offered delicious food too--provided by the Desert Princess Food & Beverage Department. A great time was had by all!

TENNIS & ATHLETICS On the heels of an enormously successful Athletic Center & Spa open house mixer held on January 25th, we have kicked into full steam at the Athletic Center. Regular Pickle Ball sessions have begun and the tennis courts have seen a marked increase in activity. Megan Harvey, our trainer is busy keeping our homeowners and guests in shape with regular workout sessions and the water otter group is thriving. Our weekly Adult Tennis Clinics are beginning to see an increase in numbers and the after school junior program has never been bigger with over 50 children in the Academy. The Moore Tennis Academy has been fortunate to make the cover of this month’s After School Magazine. Look for a copy of the magazine in the club lobby or the Athletic Center. Saturday February 15 from 3 – 5 pm, We will be hosting the monthly All Sports Day. Mark your calendars for the 15th and come down to the Athletic Center and take part in the fun. We will be playing all sports and socializing. A free tennis clinic for homeowners of the Desert Princess precedes the All Sports Day from 2-3 pm. See you at the Athletic Center! DESERT PRINCESS CRAFTERS Crafters has been very busy. We'd like to invite you to join us on Wednesdays from noon until 4 pm in the Masters Lounge. We are always looking for new ideas to prepare for the next holiday season. We had a very busy holiday season and delivered Christmas gifts to 39 seniors. The items left over from the bazaar are divided among them. The majority of them received a quilt which was made from the material donated by the owner of Nugents, a store in Palm Springs, thanks to the owner, Lou. We also include many food items for one, as most live alone. The group here at Desert Princess called Desert Foxes prepared large jars of candy and nuts to add to their gifts. The jars were beautiful. A big thank you for the Desert Foxes. We are now getting thank you notes from the seniors. It is an enjoyable time for us as well as the seniors. Many are low income and have no family, so they really appreciate what they are given. The Social Worker we work with, Craig Bruce, is very understanding and does a fabulous job for those who live there. Thank you all for supporting this endeavor. Many of you have contributed items such as clothing, linens, household appliances, TVs and many other items. If you have items you'd like to donate, bring them to one of our regular meetings in the Master's Lounge. Craig sets them up in their community center and calls those he knows need items and they get first choice, then anyone else living there may come to see what is available. He said that he has never had any items left. Craig also wrote grants so the residents get the Food Bank there twice a month instead of just once. ALC BREEZE It’s February and after a bit of a January cold snap, as my grandmother used to say, a balmy high settled over Southern California and our weather has been incredible! And it happened just in time as our friends and neighbors returned to the desert for their seasonal respites in our beautiful community. STACKED STONE VENEER As you all know, the ALC expanded the selection of stacked stone veneer profiles last year and on April 26, 2013, the Board of Directors approved the new selection. Samples of the five new Eldorado stone profiles in addition to our already very popular "Rustic Ledge" are on display in the HOA conference room. The ALC was in agreement that we continue with the Eldorado brand because of their manufacturing standards, quality and color process, but we wanted to be able to offer some different shapes and styles that would maintain the current look that has been created with "Rustic Ledge". The five new profiles are: Rustic Ledge, our original stacked stone profile, which is a textured and layered full-scale ledge stone with long dimensional stones that are split along parallel planes, comes in five (5) styles/colors…Sawtooth, Clearwater, Saddleback, Saratoga and Sequoia. Weather Edge is a ledge stone that’s larger in scale than Rustic Ledge and contains more precise edges; it’s available in two (2) styles/colors…Wisconsin and Napa Valley. Shadow Rock is a crisp angular faceted stone with dramatic dimension and texture and is available in five (5) styles/colors…Bronze, Chesapeake, Shenandoah, Somerset and Teton. The homeowners at 29628 West Trancas are the first to install one of the new Eldorado Stone profiles on their home, a Masters Series Plan 2, and have used Shadow Rock/Chesapeake. The application, design and color of the stone veneer on the home are lovely. While the stone veneer still blends with and complements the other stone veneer applications on the street, there’s definitely

a different look and feel that gives the impression that there’s something a little unexpected about it. The homeowners also painted their villa in Scheme “I”, which goes perfectly with the Shadow Rock/ Chesapeake stone veneer. If you’re out and about, take a detour down West Trancas and see how nice the home looks. Coastal Ledge is a full scale ledge stone with softly eroded edges, giving a feel of stone that’s been eroded by water and caressed by the tides of time. This profile comes in three (3) styles/colors…La Jolla, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz. Country Rubble is a rough-faced provincial European stone that looks like it came out of a field in the old country. It comes in six (6) styles/colors…Bella, Bordeaux, Capri, Cognac, Polmero and Tuscany. Coastal Reef is a precision cut flat ‘limestone-like’ stone in just one (1) style/color…Sanibel, and has a more contemporary feel to it. We've posted information and photos of each profile on www.desertprincesslive.com for your convenience, although please note that the colors in the photos may not be true to the actual color of the stone, so you may want to see a sample before making a selection. The HOA also has printed versions of the Eldorado stacked stone profiles. SAFE & SOUND This year has started off firing on all cylinders and Patrol Services has already been presented with some challenges. Desert Princess, like all communities of its kind, has established Rules & Regulations with which all Residents and Guests are required to comply to keep order and consistency. Often, through the course of day-to-day activity, these Rules & Regulations are not observed by our patrons. It’s important to remember that they have been established for a good reason. Without these standards, there would be nothing prohibiting a resident from painting his or her home neon green with hot pink trim...or parking 10 inoperable vehicles on the front lawn...or having a vendor work on a home improvement project after midnight. Although these examples are extreme, the principle behind them is the reason the rules exist. The Desert Princess Patrol Services is the department tasked with enforcing these Rules & Regulations on a daily basis. As we patrol the community, we ensure that everything remains in compliance. If any violation is observed, a Patrol Officer will issue a Warning Notice advising of the violation and/or inform the Resident directly. Here are just a few things we encounter regularly that I would like to bring to your attention. Being cognizant of these issues will help alleviate tension between Residents caused by a violation and forgo any action by Patrol Services. • Parking – Red curbed areas are “No Parking” areas, and designated as fire lanes for emergency service vehicles. This is a violation that we see often and are proactive about identifying and citing. • Pets – Pets are required to be leashed at all times while outside; owners are responsible, as well, for picking up after their pet. This is a safety and sanitation issue. • Unlicensed Driver – We often find underage, unlicensed drivers operating golf carts on property, especially during the holidays. Remember, a golf cart is motored vehicle, and under our Rules & Regulations, is only to be operated by a licensed driver.

• Speeding – The speed limit within the community is 25mph, and as low as 15mph in some areas. The DPHOA has adopted the CA Vehicle Code and Patrol Service monitors traffic and strictly enforces the adopted code. • Vendor’s Hours – During Season, Vendors are permitted to work from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. We often encounter Resident’s requesting access for a vendor to conduct work after 5:00 pm or on weekends, which is prohibited, unless express authorization is given by the HOA. (Does not apply to Utility Service Calls.) • Garage Doors – Garage doors are to remain closed at all times, except when moving vehicles or continuous access is required while work is being performed. Patrol Services monitor this closely as it poses a definite security risk known as an "attractive nuisance" and leaves your home vulnerable to potential theft. • RV’s, Trailers, & Moving Vans – Oversized vehicles of this kind are prohibited to be parked on property over night. There is a designated area of the Clubhouse for these vehicles to be parked if in possession over night. Check in at the Main Gate and inquire as to where the vehicle to permitted to be stored for the night. Lastly, many of the instances we encounter also involve Vacation Rental Guests or Tenants who are simply unaware of the rules of the community. As Homeowners, you are responsible for all who reside in and visit your home. Please make a point to inform and educate anyone who will be visiting Desert Princess, whether a Vendor, Guest or Tenant. If all our Homeowners and their guests have an understanding of the Rules & Regulations, the entire community benefits and we all can enjoy the atmosphere and ambiance of the Desert Princess without encumbrance. PATROL SERVICES COMMITTEE REPORT At our January meeting we welcomed a new member to our committee. Jay King and his wife recently moved here full time from Oregon and he thought our committee sounded interesting. He sat in our November and December meetings, filled out an application, and was approved by the Board of Directors, then sat in our January meeting as a new member. Now that you see how easy that was I expect a lot more of you to volunteer for committee work. Our committee now is made up of the following members: Doug Ashbridge, Jim Gordon, Jay King, Jim Miller, Jon Rock, Hutch Sakadjian and me, Bob Ripley. Questions and concerns regarding Safety and Security issues can be addressed to any member of our committee. We will make every effort to get back to you with an answer. We can still use a few more volunteers for our committee so please consider. Some of you might have noticed directional arrows painted on the driveway to and from the country club entrance. Quite a few vehicles were observed driving the wrong way to the entrance of the clubhouse, so hopefully, this will help prevent an accident. Other issues discussed were motion detectors and sensors on the perimeter of the property. It was determined that the cost was too high and they were not as effective as we'd hoped. An early morning dog walker noticed that a lot of the villas didn't have their garage lights on when dark. He asked what it would take to have the villa owners turn on their garage lights to provide more light during the night. Hopefully by reading this, a few more villa owners will turn on their exterior light switch. Lastly, Doug Ashbbridge submitted the following information for this report and I hope you will read and heed.

As we hit full seasonal stride, your Patrol Services Committee members would like to offer a few simple but important reminders for safeguarding your homes. While the Desert Princess community enjoys a very low rate of criminal as compared to surrounding areas, we are not without risk. Taking the following precautions around your home will make you and your family a less desirable target for would-be thiefs and substantially lessen your chance of becoming an unwitting victim. 1. ALWAYS close and lock ALL windows and doors when not in the vicinity. Burglaries have occurred within minutes of departure or inattention and only take seconds to complete. 2. Secure sliding windows and doors with sturdy wood dowels or inexpensive metal rail clips available at hardware stores for a few dollars. 3. Use lamp timers in a couple of rooms to create the appearance of occupancy when away for overnight or longer. 4. Have a "buddy" system with neighbors, letting each other know when you are away so that suspicious activity can be reported immediately. 5. ALWAYS and IMMEDIATELY report suspicious activity or persons on our property to the Desert Princess Patrol and/or Cathedral City Police. In addition to these simple reminders, a monitored home alarm system provides an added measure of prevention.
