GRACE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, PCA …striving to be Christ-centered, biblically faithful, and confessionally Reformed…

THE LORD’S DAY September 16, 2012

Today we leave our weekday vocations and entertainments to enter the solemn joy of heavenly worship.

The Morning Order of Worship † indicates the congregation standing; the Bold print indicates where the congregation speaks; please silence all cell phones; Welcome & Announcements

Mr. John Huisman

God of glory, fill your church with the power that flows from Christ’s resurrection so that, in the midst of our worship, we may serve you as your renewed humanity, risen to new life with Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

The LORD Calls Us to Glorify and Enjoy Him †Call to Worship: Psalm 105:1, 3-4; Revelation 5:13 Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; . . . Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!

To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever. †“Come, Christians, Join to Sing”

Hymn 302 Congregation “Amen”

†Prayer of Invocation

The LORD Welcomes Us to His Throne of Grace Reading of the Law of God: Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. †Prayer of Confession

O eternal God and merciful Father, we humble ourselves before your great majesty, against which we have frequently and grievously sinned. Have mercy on us, O God, and in your faithful love and immeasurable tenderness, wipe away our offences. We continually transgress your law, failing to love you with all of our being. We do not mediate on it as you command us. We fill our hearts and minds with the world’s wisdom instead of yours. And as we fail to cultivate your word in ourselves, we also fail to instill it in our children as we ought. Wash us thoroughly from our transgressions and purify us from our sins, for we are well aware of our offences. Have compassion on our infirmities, wash us in the pure fountain of his blood, and encourage us to trust in your promise to write your law upon the tablet of our hearts. Give us the desire and strength to walk in the ways of your precepts, to the glory and praise of your name, and the edification of your church. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. Assurance of Pardon: Acts 13.32-33; 38-39 And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus. . . . Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.

Chapter 12, Of Adoption

All those that are justified, God graciously guarantees, in and for his only Son Jesus Christ, to make partakers of the grace of adoption, by which they are taken into the number, and enjoy the liberties and privileges of the children of God, have his name put upon them, receive the Spirit of adoption, have access to the throne of grace with boldness, are enabled to cry, Abba, Father, are pitied, protected, provided for, and chastened by him, as by a father: yet never cast off, but sealed to the day of redemption; and inherit the promises, as heirs of everlasting salvation. Heavenly Father, as you have given us new life in Christ through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, may the boldness of your Spirit transform us, may the gentleness of your Spirit lead us, may the fits of your Spirit equip us to serve and worship you now and always. In the name of Christ. Amen.

Welcome We are delighted to have you worshiping and fellowshipping with us today! Our hope is that as the Word is read and proclaimed, as prayers are lifted up, as hymns and psalms are sung, and as the sacraments are administered, we will glorify and enjoy our Triune God together as his people. Please take a minute to sign our Guest Book on the table in the hall. Communion Here at Grace, we celebrate communion every Lord’s Day, alternating between morning and evening services. The Lord’s Supper is an occasion for believers in Christ to meet with their Savior by faith, to be strengthened and renewed by him, and celebrate him. All who have been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who trust alone in Christ as Savior and Lord, are a member in good-standing in a Reformed or Evangelical church, are at peace with their neighbor, and seek strength to live more faithfully, are invited to partake in this holy meal. If you are not a believer, or if you choose not to share in this meal, we invite you to spend this time in prayer. The outer rings of cups contain wine, the inner ring contains juice. Nursery Care We enjoy having our children worship with us. Should parents need assistance with their young children, we have nursery workers available. A diaper changing station is available in the fellowship room by the restrooms. Please do not hesitate to speak with a Deacon if you have any questions. It is our delight to serve you and your children in any way we can.
