GREAT UFV COMMUNITY SPACES INCLUDE: THE GREEN is the beautiful park-like space at the centre of the the main Abbotsford campus—home to outdoor concerts, BBQs, cultural events, and more. GLOBAL LOUNGE is the perfect place to meet students from around the world.
STUDENT UNION BUILDING, UFV’s newest state-of-the-art facility, is a great place to hang out and study or enjoy a cup of coffee or lunch with friends. It’s the central hub for many student clubs and events. ENVISION ATHLETIC CENTRE, home to the Cascades basketball, volleyball, and wrestling teams, is a state-of-the-art sports and fitness facility open for use to all UFV students. THE GATHERING PLACE is located in the Indigenous Student Centre at the CEP campus. It brings a modern touch to a traditional Stó:lō longhouse. The warm setting and recessed floor makes it a perfect place for gatherings and events.

WE ARE ALL CASCADES Join your fellow students and cheer on your team. UFV competes at the national level in basketball, volleyball, golf, soccer, baseball, wrestling, rugby, and rowing. Your Cascades are some of the most decorated post-secondary teams in Canada—6 national championships, 21 conference championships, and 141 athletes named conference all-stars. STUDENT UNION SOCIETY
& LEARN OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM The Co-Curricular Record (CCR) is a university transcript, in addition to your academic record, that provides official recognition for your outof-classroom primarily on-campus contributions and learning.
The UFV CCR is unique because it links directly to the University learning outcomes. Just like your program or classes have stated outcomes for your learning, so do the opportunities recognized by the CCR.
It documents and highlights your participation in almost 600 unique, exciting and outcomes-based learning opportunities including: • essential skill development training and workshops • volunteer opportunities • leadership positions • governance roles • work study positions • research assistant roles • and much more!
The CCR will enhance your resume, scholarship applications, and academic and career portfolios. It will help you market your experiences and skills to employers or graduate and/or professional programs—as well as apply for scholarships, grants, or bursaries. Most employers are looking for applicants with experience; students with a CCR can show university recognized and validated experience that will set them apart from the competition.
If there aren’t enough opportunities on campus for you, our CCR also extends to specific partner groups and organizations outside of UFV that offer opportunities that are also recognized on the CCR.

INDIGENOUS STUDENT CENTRE The Indigenous Graduate Celebration (pictured here) is one of the many great events put on by UFV’s Indigenous Student Centre. The Centre provides valuable support to Aboriginal students and leads events and other initiatives that help bridge the gap between the University and Aboriginal people. The Resident Elders are our Spiritual Advisors for students, staff, and faculty; the Indigenous Student Transition Coordinator helps new Aboriginal students transition to university. Why not start your international adventure while a student at UFV? With the UFV Study Abroad program, you learn and travel abroad for a semester, all while earning credits toward your degree. There are many scholarship opportunities available!
Some academic programs offer study tours to other countries. You and your classmates will be studying hard, but you’ll definitely have some time to explore. Past study tours include Geography in Mexico, Kinesiology in Italy, and Japanese language in Japan.

Worried about getting a job after university? At UFV, there are special programs and services designed to help you transition into your career. At the Career Centre, an experienced career coach will help you to: • Explore career options • Develop a professional résumé • Practice your interview skills • Connect with employers at career fairs and events
CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION Earn academic credits and build your résumé with a paid co-op position in your chosen career area. Through co-op education, you can: • Test out career options • Build contacts with employers to help you find a job after graduation • Gain professional experience in your area of career interest • Learn about applications, interviews, and workplace etiquette • Earn money to help pay for your education
Co-op opportunities are available in these programs: Arts, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Criminal Justice, Fine Arts, General Studies, Library and Information Technology, and Science.
WORK-STUDY You can also gain valuable work experience on-campus with a parttime job related to your program of study. These positions are flexible around your class schedule and help you get references for other employment or graduate school. Some of these positions work on specific research projects with faculty.
RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES Research experience can open doors to scholarships, graduate school, and career opportunities. UFV specializes in research opportunities at the undergraduate level. English as a Second Language ESL courses, designed for both domestic and international students, help students acquire the English-language and academic skills needed to successfully transition into university programs.
Get a head start on your university program Some students who do not meet the high school requirements to get into a university program can still take courses as Qualifying Studies students. This means that while they are upgrading their high school, they can also take university courses to be credited toward a future degree. WHAT DO I NEED TO GET IN? Depending on the program, qualified applicants are admitted in two ways: 1. A first-qualified, first-admitted basis, depending on how early you applied. 2. A competitive basis, according to criteria the program has established for admitting the best-prepared students. Students still need to apply by the deadline. Early application is recommended.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS Post-secondary programs at UFV usually require BC high school graduation or equivalent. In some circumstances, certain programs may accept mature students (age 19 or older on the first day of classes) without high school graduation.
PROGRAM-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS Many programs have additional entrance requirements. These are all listed on pages 29 –33, or in the academic calendar online at ufv.ca/calendar.

I was at a larger university in Montreal for two years. I chose it for its reputation, but I struggled. My lectures could have up to 1200 students.
