WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY I joined the co-op program unsure of which major I wanted to pursue, which was a toss-up between marketing and accounting. I completed three co-op work terms: two with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and one with KPMG. By the end of my third term, I was certain that accounting was the major I wanted to pursue. Besides helping to confirm my major, the co-op program provided many opportunities to get my foot in the door with employers, gain valuable work experience, and network with future employers. What initially attracted me to the program was the fear of graduating without any real work-related experience and not being able to get a job. I did a human resources and payroll assistant part-time co-op term at Prospera Credit Union. My time there was amazing, and I ended up staying for three years. The benefits and knowledge I gained from the experience are endless. It really has been instrumental to me in my career, as now I am a human resources advisor for a company in Chilliwack. JODY MARTIN /// BBA Human Resource Management, 2016
I decided to do a co-op program because future employment is so competitive, especially for accounting students who go through Fall Recruit. I’ve completed three co-op’s in total: one with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, one with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and a final one with Deloitte. The experiences were a great opportunity to get my foot in the door, and there were plenty of learning and growth opportunities to capitalize on. To me, co-op really is a no brainer from an accounting and business perspective. TRAVIS LUKEY /// BBA Accounting

UNITED KINGDOM WEST INDIES (C ARIBBEAN)
I was totally committed to my schooling yet jealous of friends who were off travelling the world. It seemed that people chose either travel or school. With Study Abroad, I was able to do both—and, at the same time, have this incredible life experience. I went to the Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland. The trip was one huge growing experience for me. I gained so much confidence. At first, I was worried that I didn’t know anyone. But, living on campus, I became like family with the people I was over there with. I didn’t notice I was becoming this brave, confident new person until I got home and was thrown back into my old routines and roles—and realized I was this new person willing to try new things. If I could say one thing to any student considering studying abroad it would be, “just go!”
To be honest, I did a Study Abroad because I wanted to travel. The opportunity to learn while travelling was something I couldn’t pass up. I chose IPAG Business School in Nice, France because it had good reviews and the upper-level classes are taught in English by international teachers, which would expose me to diverse perspectives. It also didn’t hurt that the school was right by the beach. It was fascinating to see business through the lenses of different cultures and take that into consideration when doing projects with students there and back home. From the experience, I became more resourceful and independent, and I gained many cross-cultural competencies and interpersonal skills. It really is an amazing experience, and the friends you make while there is really one of the best parts about going.
DEREK WARD-HALL BBA Human Resource Management, 2016, IPAG Business School — Nice, France
DOROTHY MCEWAN BBA Human Resource Management, 2016 Mälardalen University — Västerås, Sweden
I decided to do a Study Abroad because I felt my life was getting a bit mundane. I was lacking adventure and set in my schedule of school and life. I chose Mälardalen University because I wanted to go to a school in a country that would provide me with an authentic culture shock: a different language, new customs, and the ability to hop on a plane for a weekend in Spain! From the experience, I gained the ability to adapt to any situation, became more open minded, and learned to be less afraid (the world is such a small place once you’ve bonded with students from every corner of it). I came home from my year in Sweden with an open mind and a fearless attitude that I still use today. Going abroad will be one of the greatest experiences of your life. Just do it!
