JENN JAMES
Assistant Athletics Director * 10th Season
JENN JAMES BRINGS a wealth of experience and knowledge with her in her 10th year as head administrator for the Lady Lion basketball program. A native of Irwin, Pa., James joined the Penn State athletic operations staff in 1995 and and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in 2002. She oversees the home event management for all sports other than football. She was also actively involved in Penn State’s 40th Anniversary of Women in Sport celebration, which recognized and celebrated the tremendous growth, support and success of women in sports at Penn State. In addition to overseeing home event management, she has served as the Championship manager for numerous Big Ten and NCAA Championships, including the 1999 NCAA Wrestling Championships, the 2002, 2006 and 2011 NCAA Men’s Volleyball Championships, the 1998 and 2007 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships and the 2009 NCAA Fencing Championships. She was instrumental in helping Penn State win its bid to bring five different state high school championship finals to Penn State (Boys’ & Girls’ Basketball Championships, Boys’ Volleyball Championships, Baseball Championships and Softball Championships). James also has served as the lead administrator for several Penn State athletic teams during NCAA Championship competition. On the conference level, James has served as Championship manager for the Big Ten Championships in wrestling, field hockey, men’s and women’s golf, soccer, gymnastics, indoor and outdoor track & field and cross country. James is a 1991 graduate of Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She also earned a Master’s degree in educational organization and leadership from the University of Illinois in 1995. James served as a manager with the Lady Lion basketball team from 1987-92, serving as the head manager for the last three years. James and her husband, Rick, reside in Port Matilda, Pa.
CHARMELLE GREEN
Associate Athletics Director/SWA * Second Season
CHARMELLE GREEN IS IN her second year as Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Penn State. Green has oversight of the following athletic programs: field hockey, women’s golf, women’s gymnastics, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball. Green has served on numerous department and university-wide committees, including the search committee for current Penn State football coach Bill O’Brien, the University search committee for Vice President and General Counsel, the University Policy Review Committee, the University Employee Leadership Steering Committee, the University’s Employee Education Initiative Team, the University Response Coordination Committee, and Faculty Senate’s Intercollegiate Athletics Committee. Green also serves as the University’s Title IX Deputy Coordinator, and she is an Advisor for the Athletic Director’s Leadership Institute. In addition, Green has served on various Conference
committees. In her role as associate athletic director & senior woman administrator, Green is responsible for monitoring Title IX compliance for Intercollegiate Athletics, assisting senior staff in the day-to-day operations of the department as to ensure the operation is in line with the university’s mission and Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) strategic goals. She works closely with Faculty Senate’s Intercollegiate Athletics Committee, which is responsible to the Senate for all intercollegiate athletic programs at the University as they relate to the University’ academic and educational objectives. Green has also played an integral part in the development of the Faculty Partner Program. Green came to Happy Valley after serving as the head of the Office of Student-Athlete Welfare & Development and the sport administrator for women’s swimming & diving at the University of Notre Dame. During Green’s six years in Notre Dame’s athletic administration, she oversaw the student development program, with the mission of providing a balanced Notre Dame experience for student-athletes by focusing on five key areas: academic excellence, athletic success, career preparation, community involvement and personal development. Prior to joining athletic administration at Notre Dame, Green was an assistant softball coach from 2001-05. During her tenure on the coaching staff, the Fighting Irish were selected for the NCAA Tournament four times and won four Big East Conference regular season championships. An All-American softball player at the University of Utah, Green spent time in Salt Lake City after graduation working as a recreation program coordinator from 199598. She was also an integral part of developing an advisory board for the development of an inner-city school for the arts. A Western Athletic Conference standout, Green was a two-time softball All-American, earning both first team (1990) and second team (1991) accolades during her career at Utah. Green was named WAC Player of the Year as a senior. She was inducted into the University of Utah’s Hall of Fame in 2001. A 1991 Utah graduate with a degree in mass communications/public relations, Green earned a masters degree in secondary education in 2003 from IU South Bend.
