Penn State has one of the nation’s most successful athletic departments. The Nittany Lions boast one of the largest intercollegiate athletic programs in the nation with 800 student-athletes participating in 15 men’s and 14 women’s sports. All 29 programs are funded at 100% scholarship levels. Penn State has won 66 National Team Championships in 14 sports, including winning the last three (2007, 2008, 2009) Women’s Volleyball Championship and the 2010 Fencing Championship. The Nittany Lions’ 19 National Championships since 1993-94 are more than twice as many as any other Big Ten school during that period. Penn State has earned 54 regular season and 11 tournament titles in its initial 17 years in the Big Ten Conference. Penn State student-athletes have earned 112 Academic All-America citations in the last 17 years and 160 overall, thirdhighest in the nation. Nittany Lion student-athletes have an 89% Graduation Success Rate (GSR), 10 points higher than the national average, according to the NCAA. Over the past 15 years, Penn State leads all Big Ten institutions with 3,365 academic all-conference honorees. The Nittany Lions have finished in Top 25 in all 17 years of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings. PSU finished 11th in 2009-10 for its 15th Top 20 finished in 17 years. Penn State has eight Top 10 finishes and four top five placings in the 17 years of the Directors' Cup.
