The revelation of, “This is how you will die and glorify God by your death,” must have been a bit disturbing to Peter. “What shall this man do?” deflects the attention from Peter to someone else. Then, my sweet husband looked over and said, “You sure are pretty to me.” I giggled. I most certainly did not feel pretty. I definitely knew I wasn’t looking my absolute best, yet he saw something I didn’t see. He saw me for who I was, not what I looked like. In his eyes, my beauty wasn’t based on my outward appearance but rather on his understanding of my heart. And in that delicate moment, the Lord reminded me that this is exactly how He sees me. Homemade Cream of Tomato Soup by Pam Wattenbarger

T

his comforting soup is the perfect pickme-up on cold winter evenings. Preparation time is minimal and it uses common pantry ingredients. If you prefer, vegetable broth can be substituted for the chicken broth, and half-and-half can be substituted for the heavy cream. Serve the soup with a loaf of crusty bread or grilled cheese sandwiches for a true comfort meal.

Ingredients • ½ cup (1 stick) butter • 1 medium onion, diced • 2 cups Chicken Broth • 2 cans (28 ounces each) diced tomatoes, undrained • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning • ½ teaspoon salt • ½ teaspoon pepper

Instructions 1. In a large saucepan, over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring often, until the onion is transparent, about 5 to 7 minutes. 2. Add the chicken broth, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and sugar, if using. Bring the mixture to a boil.

3. Stir in the heavy cream. Reduce the heat to simmer. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

• 2 cups heavy whipping cream 18 // January 2021

Grateful For Laundry

I

by Sandra Gilmore

t’s the season to be grateful. I find myself grateful for something rather odd. Maybe it’s my age. Maybe it’s perspective. Maybe it’s simply surrender: I am grateful for laundry. The boring routine has given way to a blessed rhythm.

The predictability has become a welcomed chance to reflect

• Damp towels and crinkled blankets speak of the haven of home, where there’s a soft place to fall. • Stray stains, dribbles from sauces or salad dressings, reflect a full table: both with food and with fellowship. It’s still laundry, still stinks, still piles up. So what’s

If I could talk with my younger self who was constantly betwixt and between loads of responsibilities and loads of laundry, she’d probably snarl at my new perspective. She might toss me a squirt bottle of some wonderworking liquid as an invitation to help her move that laundry mountain. She might even give extra attention to my ponderings if they were voiced as I was folding and putting away. These days, folding and putting away laundry for me also includes folding in a prayer for the person who will don the garment or wrap around the towel or pull on the socks. In Bible times, Paul was known for prayer cloths (Acts 19:11-12). In my own small way, I make our family’s clothes into prayer cloths. Bloom Where You Are Planted

H

by Jenice Saint

ow many times have you maybe thought something like, “I wish I could sing like her,” or, “I wish I could play the piano like

him,” or, “I wish I could… (fill in your own blank here)”? Unfortunately, I have frequently thought those thoughts myself. Those types of thoughts can lead to further thinking like, “I would sing if I could only sing like she does” or, “I would…if I could do that like him.” It won’t be long, then, until we’ve talked ourselves out of doing things for God because we have convinced ourselves that we are not good enough. Here’s something to ponder: If only the best singers sang, or only the best teachers taught, or only the very wealthy gave in church offerings, there wouldn’t be very many people doing these and other things that are so vital to the church and to our community. We can’t all be like Billy Graham, or Bill Gaither, or someone else whom we view as being great at what they have accomplished. We can only be who God has called God has given you and me our own unique gift(s) to use for Him. Your gift might not look like someone else’s gift, but it is your gift to use for His glory. God has chosen you and placed you in your family, your church, your community, and this world. He did that so you could make a difference, be a blessing, and bring honor and glory to the name of Jesus Christ: right where you are. I believe that God is pleased when we use our gifts and talents for Him, whatever that might look like. Maybe you can’t sing or carry a tune in a bucket, as they say, but you can volunteer to help clean the church sometimes. Maybe you can’t be a missionary to a foreign country, but you can witness and tell your neighbor about what Jesus has done for you. Maybe you aren’t wealthy, but you can give of

your time to help someone who needs it. Maybe you can’t prepare a banquet, but you can make a meal to take to a sick friend or neighbor. I think that many times, we talk ourselves out of doing things for God because we don’t feel qualified or we don’t think we measure up to someone else’s standard. We miss out on a blessing when that happens. God wants to bless you by your being a blessing to others. You can bloom and blossom right here in your own community, right here where you have been planted by God. Let’s take advantage of the opportunities that we have, make the most of each day that God has given us, and live our lives in a way that lets others see Jesus in us. About The Author

FEATURED COVER STORY

Ohh Yeah! Health & Fitness

I

t’s incredible to know that Cleveland, Tennessee, is home to one of the nation’s best overall health, fitness, and longevity lifestyle centers! In fact, the two words that best describe the Ohh Yeah facility located in the Village Green Shopping Center are “World Class!” With over 30,000 square feet inside its two-story facility, the Ohh Yeah Health & Fitness Club is one of the most comprehensive and overall state-of-the-art healthy lifestyle facilities in the Southeast. No, it’s definitely not just a gym or another weight loss center; it’s a healthy lifestyle mega complex featuring the most popular exercise equipment, exciting group classes, and advanced longevity therapies. Whether you’re wanting to lose weight, tone and firm, build muscle, or simply feel better, the Ohh Yeah club and its team of certified personal trainers will help you design a custom lifestyle plan to achieve all of your health and fitness goals in 2021.

Live Smarter, Be Healthier, Be Happier, Live Longer.

Aside from its spacious and incredible facility, the biggest thing that separates Ohh Yeah from the competition is the way they customize each member’s program to fit their specific needs. “We realize that each of our members are unique in what they are wanting to accomplish, which is why we design a customized program for every member, based on their priorities, schedule and overall health goals.”

26 // January 2021

Initially, all members receive an overall health assessment, which establishes the benchmarks used to track each members progress and also allows the member to hold themselves accountable. Once the assessment is completed, a certified personal trainer works with the member to establish their initial goals and then designs a 90 day custom exercise, nutrition and recovery lifestyle plan. Then, a re-assessment is completed every 90 days to measure the results and make any necessary adjustments to their plan. The ultimate goal is to have each member develop a wellness based lifestyle, including regular exercise, proper nutrition and recovery therapies.

Mission Statement

To provide each of our members with the guidance, encouragement, and support necessary to achieve their health and fitness goals and live a longevityfocused lifestyle.

Features and Amenities:

● Longevity lounge facility (cryotherapy, infrared sauna therapy, salt room therapy, BEMER therapy) ● State-of-the-art and cutting-edge exercise equipment ● Comprehensive free weight room ● Group exercise studio ● Group functional training (HIIT class) ● Athletic and performance training zone ● Boxing training facility ● Spa facilities (steam room, dry sauna, hot tub, shower, and locker)

Longevity Therapies

In addition to the many features and amenities that Ohh Yeah! has to offer, they also have several longevity therapies which can help a person in quite a few different ways.

Cryotherapy

Whole body cryotherapy is an amazing practice using brief exposure to subzero temperatures to accelerate the body’s natural healing process while improving overall well-being and energizing the body. The benefits of cyrotherapy include reduction of chronic pain and fatigue, increased metabolism, reduced inflammation, boots collagen, reduces anxiety and depression, and helps treat migraine headaches.

It promotes better breathing, healthier skin, and can alleviate many symptoms of multiple respiratory and skin conditions. The benefits of salt therapy include improved lung capacity, decreased microbial contamination of the upper respiratory tract, inhibits respiratory allergies, and it cleanses and detoxifies the body naturally.

Infrared Sauna

This relaxing therapy uses radiant heat combined with chromotherapy to penetrate deeply into your body’s fat cells, joints, muscles, and tissues to increase oxygen flow and circulation to help eliminate harmful toxins. The benefits of using the infrared sauna include detoxification, relaxation, pain relief, weight loss, improved circulation, and skin purification.

Bemer Therapy

This incredible pulsed electromagnetic field therapy uses four times the amount of stimulations as leading PEMF therapies to activate your cells to rejuvenate and restore themselves. The benefits of bemer therapy include reducing muscle tension, improving circulation, stimulating the immune system, improving cell function, reducing inflammation, regenerating tissues, and improving the uptake of nutrients.

Salt Therapy

This holistic, all natural therapy uses dust-sized particles of salt to absorb and release toxins in the lungs.

I cried when Daddy left that Sunday, when he put the record on of somebody playing “Fascination” on a harmonica. I felt empty when Daddy left, like Mama and everybody else. What is that? What is that Presence? Is that Jesus? All good daddies and mommies are like Jesus, and Mama kept trying to keep the breeze blowing and the curtains open and the lights on, like Dad. Empty houses with lights off made our parents sad. Nothing lines up and the dishes are all out, but the house is full of food and joy and gladness and books and games and Daddy pulling me out of electric shock when I hung my white sweater with blue flowers on a curved electric lamp while I stood on a metal floor furnace. No one had told her to do this, and our little student hadn’t even asked her to help him. She saw the need and took it upon herself to fulfill that need. Can I just say, this very proud mom had tears in her eyes! When I looked up, one of the cafeteria ladies had tears in her eyes as well. We had both witnessed this at the same time, and we both stood there watching my Maria performing a selfless act of love. My heart was SO very proud of her!

Dirty Dishes And The Frying Pan

T

by Charles Finney

wo old people I knew of were talking. I heard one man say, “My wife says every time she goes to the kitchen, she finds dirty dishes and a frying pan. So I tried being nice to her. The next morning after her complaint, I prepared her a breakfast of bacon and eggs. The wife noticed a weird substance on her plate and asked, ‘Honey, are you sure these plates are clean?’ I replied, ‘They’re as clean as cold water can get them; just eat your breakfast.’ “Later that day for lunch, I made some burgers. My wife again noticed specks of dried egg on her plate. She began to doubt me: ‘Honey, I really don’t think the water you’re using is effective. Did you even put these things in the dishwasher?’ “I felt anger. ‘Honey,’ I told her, ‘these plates are as clean as cold water can GET THEM!’ Later, as my wife was watching TV, the new puppy dog I got her started to growl and would not let my wife watch TV. My wife called to me, ‘Dear, your stupid puppy dog won’t let me watch TV!’ Of course, I came running into the room shouting, ‘Boy! You lie down! Bad puppy! Bad dog!’ My wife looked down at the puppy, now resting at her feet, and felt absolute disgust. She noticed the dog had a name on its collar. It read, ‘Cold Water.’ Last time I did the dirty dishes. First time I met the frying pan. Good thing she got the new nonstick kind or my face would still be attached.” I thought the old man should have thought more about the puppy’s name. Ecclesiastes 7:1: “A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.” Proverbs 22:1: “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet.” –William Shakespeare, “Romeo and Juliet” Philippians 2:9-11: “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under

the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” From the song by Lela B long: “There have been names that I have loved to hear, / But never has there been a name so dear / To this heart of mine, as the name divine, / The precious, precious name of Jesus. / Jesus is the sweetest name I know, / And He’s just the same as His lovely name, / And that’s the reason why I love Him so; / Oh, Jesus is the sweetest name I know.”

Titus 3:4-7: “But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Jude 1:21-25: “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”

The Joint Chiropractic

very day, I hear story after story from patients and their friends and family explaining how routine chiropractic care has improved their lives: not only in the relief of chronic pain but also in general physical wellness and overall wellbeing. The results we get with chiropractic care amaze even me, and I’ve made it my mission as a chiropractor to bringing hope, help, and answers to as many families as I can.” Dr. Justin Vasquez, DC, is the medical director for the Chattanooga and Cleveland area clinics. “I completed my bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology before continuing on to Life University in Marietta, Georgia. Doing so allowed me to move to another area and complete my clinical internship with a great family wellness and pediatric-focused office in Chaska, Minnesota. Since getting my Doctor of Chiropractic degree, I have continued my education and am currently working on being a diplomate in Pregnancy and Pediatrics. While chiropractic in general is helpful in these cases, our expertise and level of specific, neurologically based care allows us to get the highest level of results in these areas, while maintaining incredible safety and satisfaction. Our practice is very dedicated to caring for these challenging cases, but at the same time, we continue to provide amazing results for all sorts of general pediatric and family conditions—colic/ reflux, difficulty nursing, ear infections, chronic immune challenges, constipation, bed-wetting, and so much more.” New patients to the Cleveland clinic receive their initial visit for $29.00, which includes the consultation, exam, and adjustment. The Joint is known for its conducive retail setting and concierge-style services. For patients, that means no appointments, no insurance hassles, affordable chiropractic care, and accommodating hours of operations, including evenings and weekends. The Joint was originally founded in 1999 by a Doctor of Chiropractic with a vision to transform the traditional, often-misunderstood concept of routine chiropractic care by making it more convenient, friendly, and affordable. In March 2010, The Joint was re-founded with the acquisition of the original eight franchised clinics. Today, The Joint has grown to a nationwide network of more than 500 chiropractic offices and counting. We are the leader in

delivering chiropractic care, performing more than four million spinal adjustments a year. Millions of Americans have found relief from pain due to the benefits of chiropractic’s natural, drug-free approach to healthcare. Everyone, from growing children and teen athletes to working parents and active seniors, can take advantage of regular chiropractic care. The Joint’s purpose is to alleviate pain and help move patients toward a healthier lifestyle, including those seeking relief from neck and back pain, stress, tension disorders, and migraines, and improved posture, joint motion and coordination, and more. According to a Gallup-Palmer College of Chiropractic annual report, neck and back pain are common among adults in the U.S. About two-thirds of U.S. adults (62%) have had neck or back pain significant enough that they saw a health care professional for care at some point in their lifetime, including 25% who did so in the last 12 months. The Joint is reinventing chiropractic care by making quality healthcare affordable for patients seeking pain relief and ongoing wellness. Our membership plans and packages eliminate the need for insurance, and our noappointment policy, convenient hours, and locations make care more accessible.

Prayer is like a spiritual raincoat. Time spent with God in prayer makes us feel warm and protected despite the bitter cold that often accompanies a spiritually rainy season. God promises us His peace as we bring our needs to Him in prayer (Philippians 4:6-7). Isn’t peace exactly what we need in the midst of a spiritual storm? When we keep the lines of communication open between us and God, we can be prepared for anything. Ephesians 6:18 encourages us to “…pray always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” Without prayer, our souls are sure to feel the brutal cold of Satan’s attacks. We get discouraged because we have, once again, failed. Those failures often lead us to resignation that we will always be a disappointment to God and ourselves. Are We Only Auditing Ourselves?

H

by Glyndora Condon

ave any of you chosen to audit a class? This is when one goes into a class but does not invest time, energy, or money. They hear it only.

We learn from the modeling and instruction of our parents

and authority figures and then with experiences, educational forums, interactions with others, and religious instruction (or not), and this is followed with choices and consequences that occur. One who audits life is basically like a tumbleweed: tossed to and fro, yet not taking root. Those individuals hear and see but refuse to take deep root, as they do not question or test others or themselves. They do not invest any effort to learn, challenge, or change. We must prioritize growing character, spirituality, stamina, integrity, and like strengths to manage ourselves as our goal instead of simply to seek happiness and fun. As we turn to James 1:1-25, we are to be meek, as we admit that we have not arrived at where we need to be. We will then be open to learning more as we prudently search for factual, enhancing, instructional information that would grow us into mature individuals. We then would respond without deception, selfishness, or compromise while truly investing and committing ourselves for the long haul and while deepening our roots. We would be intentional and proactive instead of blowing in the wind. and richer. 1) What is the experience like if we only hear or listen without implementing the needed changes? 2) Have we become a listening, passive, and distanced person or society in this relationship? 3) Are the majority of our reactions impulsive? 4) Are we expecting and demanding others to change to suit us as we sit complacent in our demands for entertainment and compliance? 5) Are we compromising what is right in order to embrace the world’s constructs? Let’s consider James 1:19-20. We are to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Are we? Or are you quick to speak, slow to hear, and quick to anger? We are taught in the text to put away the filthy and wicked ways of life. This is a calling for pure minds, hearts, choices, lives, and actions. Yet we feed upon lusts of life and greed and wade as closely as we can into dangerous waters while expecting that nothing will hurt us. We call right things wrong and wrong things right. We

replace loving our neighbor with hate. We replace charity with utter greed and covetousness. We discount precious life, and we play god in deciding who deserves to live or die (the elderly, children, boys, girls, white, black, red, and yellow people, the disabled, those of faith, the wealthy, the poor, and the mentally challenged). What if we at least try to implement the words of wisdom? Am I going to continue being prideful and selfish or meek? What is one thing that I can commit fully to in order to change this week? What has been my investment in this change, and how can I improve? What has been my biggest challenge? What has been my biggest change? How is this change of myself improving an aspect of my life? Am I helping others? We often think of ourselves as good or religious people yet do not bridle our tongues. We deceive our own hearts. In doing these things, don’t we really count ourselves and the instruction worthless? However, we find that if we do what is right, then we are blessed. Be doers and be blessed. About The Author
