experiences a person can have as a volunteer. Just knowing that you may be that one consistent person in a child’s life and the one who listens is an amazing thing.” In many cases, the CASA volunteers make the difference between a life of foster care and the security of a loving adoption. The efforts are a preventative measure to offset the negative effects of children who don’t receive the proper attention in abuse and neglect services. They

are often prone to a path of juvenile delinquency and eventual adult offenders. Nationwide, CASA believes communities are better served with preventative measures that reach youth early and provide resources that allow a chance at better outcomes. “CASA volunteers provide the judge with factual information gathered as a result of their extensive and comprehensive investigation of the child’s situation,” Goldberg said. “Visiting the child on a weekly basis and becoming familiar with what is happening with the child and the family gives the CASA the opportunity to have the informa-

tion the judge needs to make the important decisions that have to be made in the best interest of the child,” she added. Henrico CASA will join with its Chesterfield counterpart to host the annual Superhero Run at St. Joseph’s Villa on April 9. The event is designed to raise funds and community awareness of the victims of abuse living in the Richmond area. The Martin Agency will sponsor the event, a 5K race and family fun event on the campus at 8000 Brook Road. “Henrico and Chesterfield CASA are thrilled to host their

second Superhero Run and help increase awareness of the special needs of abused and neglected children in our community,” said Barbara Herzog, executive director of Henrico CASA. “We are grateful for The Martin Agency’s partnership and support in bringing this unique event to the Richmond region,” she added. Runners are urged to run in their favorite superhero’s outfit and the best costumes will be recognized along with the race winners. For more information on the race or CASA, email superhero@ henricocasa.org or call 501-1670.
