Tanya came into the world loving movement and music. Although she's lived on four continents sheʼs always been able to find her natural rhythm in various culturesʼ music.

In April of 2011 Tanya was exposed to Kizomba and Semba for the first time and immediately fell in love with the music, dances and culture from which they came. Motivated to learn as much as she could she spent several months and hundreds of hours abroad training with Master Petchu & Vanessa Pura Ginga, and Ricardo Sousa & Paula Lt. of AfroLatin Connection in Portugal, along with several other world renewed instructors. Tanya teaches Mambo, Salsa, Kizomba, Semba and Terraxinha and uses traditional Rumba, Hip Hop, and the various Latin and African cultures as major influences and inspirations. She performs internationally as well as nationally while directing YemaShun and co-directing Mezzlocutis. As a teacher, Tanya is best known for her ability to break down complex movement and quickly intuit underlying problems and solutions to dancers at all levels. Her hallmark style is a combination of Afro-Latin groove punctuated by playful movements, and her choreography often exhibits a lush narrative bent. Tanya currently lives and teaches in Washington DC.
