Game News & Notes TODAY’S MATCH: The St. Bonaventure women’s soccer team continues its fourgame homestand this afternoon when it hosts Syracuse University. SCOUTING SYRACUSE: The Bonnies haven’t met Syracuse since 2009, when the Brown and White claimed a 2-1 overtime victory against the Big East squad. Shannon Van Riper, then a redshirt freshman, had the game-winning assist. The Orange, 7-8-3 in 2011, have played three contests this year, including a season-opening 3-2 overtime victory against Colgate University. They opened their home schedule last weekend against Albany and Washington, tying the Great Danes, 1-1, and losing to the Huskies, 2-1. LAST TIME OUT: St. Bona begins the weekend aiming to get its first win after two tough games at home against Pittsburgh and Big 4 rival University at Buffalo last weekend. SBU suffered a late loss against the Panthers on Friday, 2-1, when it conceded a corner-kick goal in 88th minute. However, Bonaventure started to head in the right direction against UB. The Bulls opened the scoring early with a goal in the 8th minute, but the Bonnies countered with a score in the 62nd minute by Brittany Charles. The game ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods. OFFENSE STARTING TO FLOW: In the second 10-minute overtime session of their game against Buffalo, the Bonnies attempted five of their season-high 23 shots. In its first three games combined, St. Bonaventure attempted just 14 shots, and only six of those were on target. Against the Bulls, SBU put seven shots on frame.
