Opening Tip The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team returns to the Reilly Center for the first time in more than three weeks Saturday night when the Bonnies battle the University at Buffalo Bulls. After opening the season at home with a victory over Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 9, SBU has played three road games and a neutral-site contest against Niagara in Rochester, going 2-2 in those contests. Last Time Out Bonaventure battled an undefeated Ohio team Receiving Votes in both national polls Wednesday night, but despite holding a lead in the final minute could not hang on as the Bobcats escaped with a 69-65 win over the Bonnies. Senior Eric Mosley scored a career-high 19 points off the bench thanks to a career-establishing six 3-pointers (6-8) to lead the Brown and White. The Bonnies shot well (21-44 for 47.7 percent), but turned the ball over a season-most 20 times and went a season-worst 14-25 (56 percent) from the free-throw line as they dropped their second road matchup of the campaign. UB-SBU Series St. Bonaventure leads the all-time series against Buffalo, 5-2, and has won four in a row over the Bulls. The two teams first met during the 1915-16 season, but then did not play again until the 1996-97 season – which was UB’s last win in the series, 69-67. Bona claimed last year’s game in Alumni Arena, 66-60, behind 23 points from Andrew Nicholson and an additional 11 from Demitrius Conger and 10 from Matthew Wright. In the short series history, the Bonnies have never lost to the Bulls in the Reilly Center (3-0). Battle Tested Already Four of Bonaventure’s first five games of the season have been decided by five points or less, including four in a row (at Cornell: W, 72-68; at Canisius: L, 72-69; vs. Niagara: W, 80-75; at Ohio: L, 69-64). Only one other time in program history has a Bona team started a year by having four of its first five games decided by five points or less, and that came during the 1937-38 season. If Saturday’s game is decided by five points or less, it will mark the first time in Bonaventure history that a team commences a campaign with five of its first six games decided by that margin. History On Its Side The Bonnies have proven the ability to bounce back from losses particularly well, especially in the nonconference slate the last two-plus years. Over that time, Bonaventure is 10-1 following a loss, including an 8075 victory over Niagara last Saturday. The only two-game losing streak during that time came against Virginia Tech (73-64) and Arkansas State (58-52) last year. Record Scoring Margins
In addition to starting a season in record-tying fashion in terms of point margins, it is just the fourth time in program history at any point during a season that SBU has had four games in a row decided by five points or less. 1945-46: five straight games, spanning from Alfred to Ithaca 1979-80: five straight games, spanning from Niagara to Detroit 2009-10: four straight games, spanning from Charlotte to Duquesne 2012-13: four straight games, spanning from Cornell to Ohio Furthermore, in all of the four occasions, the Bonnies have gone 2-2 over the four games, and in the previous two five-game stretches, they have won the fifth game.
Double-Digit Attack
For the first time since the final three games of the 2009-10 regular season, the Bonnies have had three straight games in which four players have scored in double figures. Demitrius Conger, Chris Johnson and Eric Mosley have been staples as each has scored in double figures the last three outings. In fact, over that timeframe, the trio has combined to account for 66 percent of St. Bonaventure’s scoring, up slightly from the 60 percent they represent of SBU’s overall scoring this year.
Career Night For Mosley Senior Eric Mosley came off the bench to spark the St. Bona offense in its loss at Ohio on Wednesday. Mosley scored a career-high 19 points on a careerbest six 3-pointers and in the process became the first Bona player since Ogo Adegboye on Feb. 16, 2011 against Saint Louis to hit at least six 3’s in a game. Signs Of Last Year Junior Charlon Kloof finally showed signs of what made him a force near the end of the 2011-12 season in SBU’s game at Ohio. Kloof set season highs in scoring (19), rebounds (four) and field goals made (three), and also knocked down his first 3-pointer of the season after eight tries. Johnson Hot To Start During the offseason, head coach Mark Schmidt called Chris Johnson the one player who would surprise opponents this year. So far, that’s exactly what the senior has done as he’s tied his career high for scoring in three of the first five games, netting 19 points in consecutive games against Cornell, Canisius and Niagara. Through five games, he’s already scored 83 points – a plateau he didn’t reach until the 15th contest last year. Additionally, the Nova Scotia native has already tied, or broken, a career high in eight other categories (rebounds: 6; assists: 4, steals: 2; field goals made: 8; 3-point field goals made: 3; field goals attempted: 17; 3-point field goals attempted: 6; minutes played: 35). ’Quise Shaping Into Form After tearing his Achilles just two minutes into last season, Marquise Simmons has gradually worked
his way back into game form. After opening the season with a pedestrian four-point, one-rebound performance in 13 minutes against BethuneCookman, the Washington, D.C., native has seen his minutes and production increase each game. He tallied 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in 20 minutes at Cornell – the 14 points being the most he’s scored in a game since the 2010-11 season when he netted 18 versus La Salle on Feb. 12, 2011. He then played 27 minutes off the bench against Canisius, recording five points and pulling down a game-high eight rebounds. He capped the three-game stretch with arguably his best performance in a Bona uniform last Saturday when he recorded his first career double-double and grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds in 20 minutes of action against Niagara.
Good Things Come In Pairs Demitrius Conger (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Marquise Simmons (12 points, 12 rebounds) each registered a double-double in the Bonnies’ victory over Niagara. The last time two St. Bonaventure players recorded double-doubles in the same game was Feb. 29, 2012, when Conger tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds and Andrew Nicholson produced 32 points and 14 rebounds in a 98-93 doubleovertime victory opposite Saint Joseph’s. The last time two Bona players recorded double-doubles in the same regulation game was Feb. 25, 2012, when Conger had 12 points and 11 rebounds and Nicholson posted 25 points and 11 boards in a 7256 victory over Charlotte. Finally A Victory In ROC For the first time in seven tries, the Bonnies claimed a victory in Rochester when they defeated Niagara on Nov. 24, 80-75. SBU had lost those six games – against NC State, Virginia Tech, St. John’s, West Virginia, Syracuse and Saint Louis – by a combined 22 points, an average of 3.6 points per loss. The win in Blue Cross Arena was the first since a 79-78 decision over Charlotte in November of 2000. Fresh Performance Freshman Dion Wright came off the bench against Cornell on Nov. 14 and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in just 16 minutes of action. The California product’s seven boards are the most by
Sizzlin’ Home Cookin’ Over the last 46 years – since 1967 when the Reilly Center hosted its first complete season – St. Bonaventure is a dominant 44-2 in home Best Records In Home Openers (last 46 Years) openers, 43-3 when including a win which ARENA RECORD was later forfeited during the 2002-03 TEAM Reilly Center 44-2* season. SBU won its first 27 home openers St. Bonaventure Cassell Coliseum 44-2 in the RC until a 76-74 loss to Canisius on Virginia Tech Dec. 3, 1994. Bona’s has won eight straight Dayton UD Arena 42-4 home openers, dating back to Nov. 23, Duquesne A.J. Palumbo Center 40-5 2004, when it suffered a 74-58 setback to *Does not include forfeited win in 2002-03 Marist. Even more impressive, in games which have served as both home and season openers, the Bonnies have NEVER lost in the Reilly Center, going an emphatic 33-0 in such contests. Overall, the Bonnies are 78-15 all-time in season-opening games and 81-12 in home openers. Under head coach Mark Schmidt, St. Bonaventure is 4-2 in season openers and 6-0 in home openers.
Bonnies Cruise In Exhibition St. Bonaventure raced out to a 19-4 lead not even seven minutes in, led by as many as 45 and received a game-high 25 points from senior Demitrius Conger to cruise to a 104-61 victory over Division II Mansfield in an exhibition tilt top open the season on Nov. 3. The well-balanced SBU offensive attack received 14 points from sophomore center Youssou Ndoye, 11 from guard Eric Mosley and 10 each from Charlon Kloof and Michael Davenport as SBU scored 100 in a regulation 40 minutes for the first time since Dec. 31, 2002, against Ohio.

a Bonaventure freshman in his first road game since Mike Gansey grabbed six against Cleveland State on Nov. 20, 2001. Furthermore, Wright became the first Bona freshman to lead the team in rebounding in his first road game since Vidal Massiah against Siena on Nov. 24, 1998, when he corralled eight caroms.
A Better Road Start St. Bonaventure’s win at Cornell on Nov. 14 improved its record in the last 11 years in road openers to 2-9. Prior to that, SBU’s only win during that stretch came on Nov. 17, 2008, against Marist as the Bonnies claimed a 77-54 victory. That same season was also the last time the Brown and White won their opening two road games of a campaign as Bona went on to defeat Rutgers on Nov. 23 in overtime, 64-63. Sole Charity Despite St. Bonaventure’s poor performance from the free-throw line against Cornell (26-42) on Nov. 14, junior Charlon Kloof hit six free throws in the contest, accounting for all of his scoring on the night. He’s the first SBU player to score at least five points – all of which came from the free-throw line – since Da’Quan Cook went 5-6 in a contest against Binghamton on Nov. 20, 2009. National Exposure St. Bonaventure picked up its 12th regular-season television appearance earlier this week as the NBC Sports Network will broadcast nationally the Bonnies’ meeting with Siena this coming Tuesday, Dec. 4. Bonaventure made its first TV appearance of the year in a victory against Cornell on Nov. 14. The Siena contest will mark the second of three scheduled national appearances this year for the Brown and White. SBU was 2-3 in national TV games last year, but all three losses – at Illinois, vs. Temple and vs. Florida State – came by a combined 14 points. Over the last two-plus years total, including the 2012-13 season, St. Bona is 12-9 in TV games. Locking Down On D The 55 points allowed by Bonaventure in its season opener this year are the fewest in a season opener since a 68-53 win against New Mexico State on Nov. 17, 2000. Additionally, it’s also the fewest points allowed in home opener since a 58-53 victory over Rice on Dec. 3, 1996. Can’t Lose If You’re Not Trailing
St. Bonaventure had a streak of not trailing in a game for 78 minutes and 34 seconds snapped at Canisius on Nov. 17. A Billy Baron layup at the 18:50 mark of the first half gave Canisius a 2-0 lead and stopped the Bona streak. It started in the season opener against Bethune-Cookman as B-CU hit a 3-pointer on its opening possession, but after a Chris Johnson short jumper fell at the 17:36 mark to give the Bonnies a 4-3 lead, they never again trailed in the game. Then against Cornell on Nov. 14, the game was tied on four separate occasions, but Bonaventure did not trail at all against the Big Red.
Next Up Bonaventure remains at home to face Siena in the third edition of the battle for the Franciscan Cup in front of a national TV audience on Tuesday at 9 p.m. on NBC Sports Network.

Can’t Teach Experience
Bonaventure’s opening night starting lineup had 245 combined games of Division I experience. Furthermore, SBU’s bench (excluding freshmen) has 234 games of experience combined, giving the top nine players in Mark Schmidt’s rotation a total of 479 games of D-I experience.
‘Gather’ing Game Action
Sophomore Jordan Gathers saw a drastic increase in both minutes played and subsequently production beginning midway through his freshman season in 2011-12. After playing just double-digit minutes in one of the first 14 games last year (74 minutes total) and scoring five points, the California native logged doubledigit action in 16 of the final 17 contests (288 minutes total) and netted 49 points. That’s an average of 5.2 minutes per game and .3 points per game over the first 14 games of the season, and 16.9 minutes and 2.8 points encompassing the last 17 outings, including making starts in each of the last nine games of the campaign.
2011-12 In Brief
St. Bonaventure won its first Atlantic 10 Championship in 2012 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000 where it narrowly lost to 3rd-seeded ACC Champion Florida State in the Second Round, 66-63.
What’s Gone & What’s Back
The Bonnies will look to replace 2012 A-10 Player of the Year, Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American and First Round NBA Draft pick Andrew Nicholson, who led St. Bonaventure in scoring (18.5) and rebounding (8.4). SBU also lost Da’Quan Cook (7.6 points / 4.6 rebounds) to graduation. While Nicholson has moved on to the Orlando Magic, Cook has taken his game oversees where he signed a professional contract with BC Yambol in Bulgaria’s National Basketball League. Bona returns 10 letterwinners and three starters, including 2012 A-10 All-Championship Team member Demitrius Conger, who averaged 12.1 points and 6.2 rebounds – both second on the team to Nicholson. Conger has been named to the 2012-13 Preseason All-Big 4 First Team. Bonaventure had 10 players average at least 10 minutes per game in 2011-12, tied for the most by any team in the A-10. Mark Schmidt was named the Sporting News Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, and also claimed the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Men’s Division I Coach of the Year.
Bonnies vs. Mid-American Foes St. Bonaventure is 36-24 all-time against teams from the Mid-American Conference. SBU has met Kent State more than any other opponent, owning a 14-7 series edge over the Golden Flashes. Additionally, 2010-11 128 8 (8-8) St. Bonaventure is 2011-12 76 10 (10-6) 4th one of only seven Division I schools in the nation to have improved its RPI in each of the last five seasons. Charleston Southern, Detroit, Long Beach State, South Dakota State, Tennessee Tech and Wichita State are the other six schools which have improved their RPI each of the last five years. Of the seven teams, SBU is the only one to hail from a conference that has been rated among the top-10 in the country in RPI in each of the last five years.
Among The Best
SBU finished in the top-5 in the A-10 in nine different statistical categories in 2011-12, and closed the season at 16th in the nation in free-throw percentage (76.1) and 25th in the country in rebounding margin (+5.5).

THE CUPBOARD ISN’T REALLY THAT BARE
Despite losing A-10 Player of the Year, Associated Press Honorable Mention and top-20 NBA Draft Pick Andrew Nicholson, St. Bonaventure’s cupboard is fuller than many believe. In fact, last year the Bonnies were only outscored by 17 total points (574-557) when Nicholson was on bench. By comparison, with Nicholson in the game, Bonaventure was +190 (1,697-1,507).
Player-By-Player Scoring Breakdown Of Returners When Nicholson Was On The Bench in 2011-12
Notes For Players Related To Their Points Scored With Nicholson On The Bench (30 percent of his 388 total points for the year) (47 percent of 198 total points for the year) (42 percent of those points (30) came on 3-pointers) (45 percent of those points (30) came on 3-pointers) (12 of those points came on dunks)
(Redshirt last year after injuring shoulder 8 games in) (Former manager who has since walked on) Additionally, despite Nicholson’s overwhelming presence in the low blocks, the Bonnies were still able to produce points in the paint when he was not in the game. As a team, the Bonnies scored 944 total points in the paint last year. With Nicholson on the floor, that number was 728. Without him on the floor, that number was 216. In looking at the amount of minutes Nicholson played compared with point-in-the-paint production, there was an extremely minimal dropoff when he was on the bench. With Nicholson on the floor, the Bonnies averaged .75 points in the paint per minute. With Nicholson on the bench, Bonaventure averaged .65 points in the paint per minute.
Perhaps even more stunning is that the Bonnies were actually more efficient rebounding the ball when Nicholson was on the bench. Nicholson finished second in the A-10 at 8.4 rebounds per game, and Bonaventure as a team led the conference and ranked 25th in the nation in rebounding margin at +5.5. With Nicholson on the floor, the Bonnies averaged .86 rebounds per minute. With Nicholson on the bench, SBU averaged .94 rebounds per minute.

Unacceptable Uses Of St. Bonaventure
Saint Bonaventure, St. Bonas, Bonas, St. Bon, Saint Bonnies | Nickname: Bonnie’s St. Bonaventure’s slogan for the 2012-13 basketball season is “No Sleep ’Til Brooklyn.” The slogan, derived from the 1986 hit single by the Beastie Boys, was submitted by Patrick Didas, father of SBU freshman Cody Didas. It encapsulates the tireless effort needed to be put forth by the men’s and women’s basketball teams and their fans to reach the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship at the brand new, $1 billion Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The top 12 teams in the newly-formed 16-team A-10 on the men’s side advance to the A-10 Championship, which will be held entirely at the Barclays Center. The first three rounds of the women’s tournament will be held at Saint Joseph’s University before the championship game is played at Barclays. It will be the first women’s basketball game played in the state-of-the-art arena. This marks the second year in a row that fans have had the opportunity to select the basketball slogan. Last season’s extremely popular “Defining Our Legacy” slogan came to fruition as the men’s team won its first A-10 Championship title and the women’s squad went undefeated in the A-10 and advanced to the Sweet 16.

Numbers Never Lie
Much of St. Bonaventure’s recent success can be directly correlated to the below numbers, which have gradually increased each year. Scoring Margin Highlighting Bona’s climb to the top of the Atlantic 10 in 2011-2012, it made improvements in scoring margin in conference games each of the last three seasons. SBU finished 3rd in the A-10 with a +5.9 scoring margin last season, climbing four spots from 7th in 2010-11 and up six spots from 9th in 2009-10. Scoring Defense The Bonnies jumped nine spots to 2nd in the A-10 in conference games in scoring defense last year, limiting league opponents to 66.6 points per game. Field Goal Percentage The Bonnies have finished among the top-5 in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage over each of the last four seasons. They ranked 5th in 2008-09, 1st in 2009-10 and 4th the last two seasons. Field Goal Percentage Defense Bonaventure finished 5th in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage defense (.417) last season, up four spots from 2010-11 when it was 9th. Rebounding Margin The Bonnies have finished among the top-4 in the Atlantic 10 in rebounding margin in three of the last four seasons, culminating in last season’s conference-leading +5.5 average. SBU finished 3rd in the A-10 in rebounding margin in 2010-11 and 4th in 2008-09. In conference games only, St. Bonaventure finished among the top-4 in the Atlantic 10 in nine different statistical categories in 2011-12.

Upcoming Milestones
Demitrius Conger and Michael Davenport are both in position to reach 1,000 career points this season. Conger stands 140 points short of the milestone and will need to average a minimum of 5.8 points over SBU’s remaining 24 regularseason games to reach 1,000. Davenport is 243 points short and will need to average a minimum of 10.1 points per game over the season to hit 1,000. The last time Bonnies’ teammates reached 1,000 career points in the same season was in 2002-03, when junior Marques Green and senior Patricio Prato hit the milestone in back-to-back games against Duquesne (Jan. 25, 2003) and Cleveland State (Jan. 28, 2003), respectively. Conger and Davenport are also both eyeing 500 rebounds for their careers. Conger needs 26 rebounds (a minimum of 1.1 per game), while Davenport needs 145 (a minimum of 6.0 per game) to reach 500. Conger also needs 157 rebounds to crack the list of top-20 rebounders in program history. Last season Conger grabbed 199 boards. Twenty-two St. Bonaventure players have recorded both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds during their careers. The last SBU player to reach both career milestones was 2012 graduate Andrew Nicholson.
Summer Abroad
Redshirt senior Michael Davenport and junior Matthew Wright spent nine days this past summer on European basketball trip through Belgium and France as part of the Global Sport’s Academy’s summer collegiate tour. The two were part of a team which played five games against Belgium squads. They also trained, competed and partook in cultural excursions in Belgium, and mid-way through the visit traveled to France and explored Paris.
CJ Loves Charity
Senior Chris Johnson connected on 87.7 percent of his free throws (57-65) last season, a percentage which ranks 5th all-time in program history for a single season. The senior shot 86.5 percent (32-37) in Atlantic 10 games, which was 5th-best among conference players.

Coincidence? Probably Not held 22 opponents to 69 points or fewer in 2011-12, one of the main reasons it advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The last time SBU held that many teams to 69 points or fewer was in 1999-2000 when it also occurred 22 times. Prior to last year, the 1999-2000 season was the last time the Bonnies advanced to the NCAA Tournament. St. Bonaventure

A-10 Declared “Realignment Winners” The Atlantic 10 made a big splash in the conference realignment craze in 2011-12, adding Butler and VCU to bring the league’s total number to 16. The moves led prominent media members, like Andy Katz of ESPN.com to declare the A-10 the “Winners of Conference Realignment.” Both programs made the jump to the A-10 immediately, thereby fortifying the league’s position as the best basketball-driven conference in Division I. The only non big six conference to have 41 at-large NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament selections in the past 20 years, including three in 2012, the A-10 has boasted 62 postseason appearances in the last decade. The Atlantic 10 Conference announced in September of 2011 that it had formed a five-year partnership with the Barclays Center to bring the A-10 men’s basketball tournament to Brooklyn and the new arena, beginning in 2013. The joint announcement was made at the Barclays Center Showroom in Manhattan, N.Y. It will mark the first time the A-10 Championship, which sends its champion to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, will be held in metropolitan New York City and the first time it will be played in a state-of-the-art new facility. “The opportunity to partner with the Barclays Center and bring the Atlantic 10 Basketball Championship to New York has unlimited possibilities. Our teams will compete in the newest, state-of-the-art facility within the Atlantic 10 footprint and the number-one media market in the country,” stated Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. Scheduled to open in September, the Barclays Center will be a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue and the future home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. The Barclays Center will offer approximately 18,200 seats for basketball and will have one of the most intimate seating configurations ever designed into a modern multi-purpose arena. The last time the Atlantic 10 Tournament was in an NBA building was in 2002 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. “We are thrilled for the Barclays Center to play host to one of men’s basketball’s most prestigious conference tournaments,” Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark said. “We appreciate our alliance with the Atlantic 10 as we position the Barclays Center as a significant national collegiate sports venue.” The highest concentration of Atlantic 10 alumni of any region in the county live and work in the New York metro area. There are 2.5 million people total in Brooklyn and 8.1 million total people in New York, an opportunity for the A-10’s premier event to be played on the biggest stage in the nation. “Brooklyn and the surrounding metropolitan New York area is home to over 100,000 Atlantic 10 alumni; this combined with the eight-million plus population will give the Atlantic 10 an opportunity to grow the Championship to new heights,” said McGlade. The move also places the championship into the largest media market in the nation and home to CBS Sports, the Atlantic 10’s television partner for the men’s basketball championship. CBS Sports carries several regular season A-10 games and the league’s championship title game is aired on CBS as part of the network’s Selection Sunday package. The Atlantic 10 is one of the most successful and wellrespected leagues for basketball. The A-10 has averaged more than three teams per year in the top 50 of the RPI, equal to the Southeastern Conference. For the last four years, the Atlantic 10 earned three bids into the NCAA Tournament, one of only six Division I conferences to do so. Over the last six years, the league has had 10 at-large selections - the seventh most in Division I - behind only the big six BCS leagues.

Matthias Runs (muh-THY-us)
20
Freshman Forward / Center 7-0 220 Hilversum, Netherlands Canaries Basketball Academy
ST. BONAVENTURE MEN’S BASKETBALL
• •
Will have three years of playing eligibility beginning as a sophomore in the 2013-14 season. Not allowed to play in games during the 2012-13 season due to the NCAA’s “delayed enrollment” ruling. Since more than a year passed between Runs’ high school graduation date and his enrollment at St. Bonaventure, the NCAA mandates that he “sit the year in residency” before becoming eligible. Runs graduated from high school in the spring of 2010 and took a year off from schooling and basketball competition before enrolling at Spain’s Canaries Basketball Academy (CBA) in the fall of 2011. The Netherlands native played in 22 games at CBA during the 2011-12 season. That competition – combined with the “delayed enrollment” – caused him to lose a year of eligibility.

Mark Schmidt Head Coach Sixth Season Boston College, 1985
2012 SPORTING NEWS ATLANTIC 10 COACH OF THE YEAR •
19th coach in 92 seasons of basketball at St. Bonaventure.
•
Schmidt was recognized for his remarkable work in rebuilding the Bonnies by being named the 2012 Sporting News Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. He was also named the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Men’s Division I Coach of the Year.
•
Schmidt was instrumental in the development of 2012 A-10 Player of the Year and AP Honorable Mention All-American Andrew Nicholson, who ended his career ranked second in school history in scoring (2,103 points) and fourth in rebounds (887). Nicholson was selected by the Orlando Magic in the First Round of the 2012 NBA Draft with the 19th overall pick.
•
SBU’s 20 victories overall and 10 in the Atlantic 10 in 2011-12 were its most since the 19992000 season, the last time a Bona team had earned an NCAA Tournament bid. The 10 victories also marked just the fourth time in history a Bonaventure team reached double-digit conference triumphs.
•
In May 2012, St. Bonaventure rewarded Schmidt with a five-year contract extension that runs through the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.
•
Ahead of schedule with respect to his previous head coaching stint at Robert Morris. During his third and fourth season at RMU, Schmidt posted back-to-back seasons with the same number of wins (14) before guiding the team to a record over .500 (15-14). He guided SBU to 15-win seasons in year two and three, before going over .500 in year four and eight games over in year five last season.
•
Has recruited and developed 10 players who were drafted into the NBA, including First-Round picks James Posey (#18), David West (#18) and Nicholson.
•
Success at RMU: brought in Tony Lee, who in 2007-08 was the NEC Player of the Year and currently owns that school’s career rebounding record (751); Jeremy Chappell was 2008-09 NEC POY and graduated as school’s all-time leader in 3-point field goals, double-figure scoring games, games played and starts.
MARK SCHMIDT VS. BCS SCHOOLS WHILE AT ST. BONAVENTURE Although Schmidt is just 2-9 vs. BCS teams since taking over the program in 2007-08, 7 of those losses have come by single digits, including 5 by 5 points or fewer.
