• Five returning starters from last season: Kaycee Popham (First), Jessi Couch (Second/DP), Kandra Singleton (Second), Brittney Banania (Shortstop), and Kristi Marquez (Third). • Popham will provide gold glove defense at first base with clutch hits at the plate. Her 18 RBIs in 2010 were the second most on the roster. Freshman Shelby Stinnett is expected to primarily backup Popham. • Second base may be the deepest position in the infield. Couch and Singleton each started more than thirty games in 2010. Both players will push each other in 2011. • Banania returns for her senior season at shortstop. The San Pedro, Calif., native posted a solid .920 fielding percentage. Freshman Kayla Toney will back up Banania, and her strong bat is expected to get her in the game very early. • Marquez will start at third after an up-and-down freshman campaign. Nevar is very confident in the improvement made by the sophomore in the off-season. Couch, Kailey MacDougald and Toney can backup at third.

Newcomers

No. Name Class 14 Kelsey Woodruff JR 30 Nina Dever FR

• Two outfield starters return from last season: Corrie Abel and Kelsey Dortch. • Abel returns as the team’s top hitter. The senior posted a .347 average and a team leading eight doubles. Abel was granted a fifth redshirt season upon suffering an injury in 2008. • Dortch will start at center as one of the most consistent players on the team. The senior’s leadership in center and offensive production are vital to the team’s success. • Redshirt freshman Nina Davenport did not start a game in the outfield her first season after suffering a shoulder injury. Her speed and crafty baserunning will give her a shot at the final outfield position. • Newcomers Nina Dever and Kelsey Woodruff will be in the mix for final outfield position as well. Dever’s clutch bat and strong defensive play will be a large factor in her ability to get into the starting lineup.
