This Summer the Office of Student Development wants you to GEAR UP with some new HU threads and accessories from the University Store. Winning is simple—your attendance at Club Events, Career Development Workshops, Counseling Workshops, AAS Workshops, and a host of other qualifying events will be registered. At the end of the term, three names will be chosen representing the Fort Myers Campus, the Naples Campus, and Distance Education/Online Students. The more you attend, the more chances to win.

Key Terms & Phrases AAS- (Academic Achievement Services) - AAS supports classroom instruction by offering assistance to students via one-on-one peer tutoring, supplemental instruction (SI), email, telephone, and computer-based tutorials. Academic Honesty Policy—this policy describes academic integrity and the procedures for handling academic dishonesty. APA Format – (American Psychological Association Format) A writing style that Hodges University uses for papers. Blackboard – Online classroom software. Instructions for Blackboard are located in the “MyHUgo” section of the University’s Web site. Blackboard Collaborate - A live webstream of workshops and presentations that can be viewed on any internet connected computer. Blended Class – Classes taught partly in the classroom and partly online. C & O – (Student Clubs and Organizations) Credits - Numerical value associated with the time requirements needed to complete a degree. CARE – Class Audit Refresher Education CCN – (College Central Network) – Hodges University online job board. DE – (Distance Education) – Education by means of instruction online. Dean’s List – Recognition of Full-Time Students with a 3.5 GPA or better. ESL – (English as a Second Language) eCampus – Hodges’ online bookstore. FAFSA – (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) - federally funded financial assistance for education beyond high school. FRAG – (Florida Resident Access Grant) Program provides tuition assistance to Florida undergraduate students attending an eligible university. The QEP is a fiveyear, forward thinking initiative that is a part of the SACS reaffirmation process. HU’s QEP is WritingYour Path to Success! The purpose of the QEP is to improve students’ ability to write effectively within disciplines. SACS – Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, accreditation agency to award Associate, Bachelors, and Masters Degrees. Sextant—the official literary magazine of the University , published annually. SI Labs – (Supplemental Instruction) Smarthinking - Provides live, online, and on-demand tutoring and writing assistance to students. Student Handbook—a compilation of information, guidelines, and regulations prepared for the student body. Syllabus — an outline and summary of topics to be covered in a course, which may include a schedule of assignments. TI-84 – A graphing calculator made by Texas Instruments. Trimester – Three 15 week terms a year (fall, winter, summer). Turn It In – A website that ensures original work by checking submitted papers for plagiarism. WebAdvisor - A quick access link to student account information, located on MyHugo. Wheel – an accelerated classroom delivery format (taking three classes simultaneously in one term).
