INTERFAITH TREND
AT THE PRESENT TIME, it is too much to expect people to drop their religion and adopt a universal one, but there are basic common beliefs within all the faiths. The spirit of ‘goodwill to all men’ is reported regularly in all the scriptures, so should we not be trying to build on this within our communities and mend the fences of friendship which racists and others would destroy? It is exciting to know that interfaith meetings are springing up around the country. Why not break the ice and initiate a meeting between representatives of the different racial groups in your area? It should be informal and friendly, so real understanding and respect can be shown to all concerned. Such meetings are also valuable for showing the younger generation the respect and kindlier attitudes we should be showing to minorities. Action. Get to know your ‘different’ neighbours. They have very similar problems that you have to contend with, but they also have the burden of putting up with racist slurs and insults, something so very unfair and unacceptable.
GREETINGS CHALLENGE
IT IS WELL KNOWN that violence breeds violence, and hate breeds hate, but the idea that happiness and goodwill are also catching, has not really been studied in depth. The fact is, all moods are catching. Take laughter for instance. A small group in a crowd start laughing and, in no time, it can spread to huge numbers of people, most of whom have neither seen or heard anything funny. Conversely there are thousands of people who are unhappy, feel unloved, and occasionally, very lonely. You can see it in their faces, and hear it in their voices. Rude people usually have problems too.
