The funerals of the other three victims of the New Lodge funerals, John Loughran, age 35, Brendan Maguire, age 32, and Ambrose Hardy, age 26, took place earlier in the day. 1,000 people attended their funerals. Friday 9th February 1973 McKeague arrested Seven Protestants, all from East Belfast have been arrested in early morning swoops. It is understood that some of the men have been arrested under Section II of the Special Powers Act.. One of those arrested was John McKeague. McKeague was alone at the time in his Albertbridge Road flat, which is above his shop. It is understood that he first
phoned his sister to notify her that he was being arrested before letting the soldiers and RUC men into the premises. Under the Special Powers Act the men can be held for up to 72 hours. Friday 9th February 1973 McCrea warns of loyalist arrests Rev William McCrea, of Magherafelt, who is chairman of the United Loyalist Front, has said that he has received information from intelligence officers close to the security forces that loyalist leaders are to be round up before the plebiscite on the border and the publication of the White Paper. He said that all middle and top ranking officers of para-military organisations will be detained in the coming weeks. Friday 9th February 1973 Bomb at Derry cafĂŠ A bomb has damaged a Derry CafĂŠ shortly after lunch hour which is situated opposite the Army headquarters in Derry, Ebrington Barracks. It is believed that two youths were involved in the attack.
