Mr Herron denied that there was any split in the UDA and said that the organisation was democratic from the bottom to the top. He went on to say that he believed that the man responsible for trying to break up the organisation was not even a member of the organisation. The first talk of a split came after publicly denounced sectarian assassinations and warned that the organisation would deal with the killers. Rumours spread that parts of the organisation disagree with this position and more rumours suggested that he was related to an IRA man who is on the run.
