Girl Scout Basics Supporting Your Girl Through COVID-19 No matter where you are, every girl can have more fun learning, doing, and growing while they achieve their dreams. Here’s how you can support your girl:  



If your girl’s troop is meeting in person in a safe way following local health and safety guidelines, and you’re comfortable too, go for it! If you have a special skill you can share with your girl’s troop-maybe you’re a pro at using Zoom-offer to be the tech host of a meeting that is facilitated by the leaders. If your girl isn’t in a troop or her troop is not meeting right now, consider joining our virtual troop meetings or a virtual club so your girl can connect to others, make new friends, and try new things. Check out GSWISE or GSUSA’s Girl Scouts at Home webpages for loads of activities, nationwide virtual events, patch programs, badges, and more that you can do from home with your girl. No experience is necessary for the activities your girl chooses—at Girl Scouts, both girls and adults learn together by trying new things, and discovering new skills and interests along the way. While your girl may need your support or guidance, your girl should always feel empowered to take the lead. She can bravely test new skills that will give her the independence, confidence, and resilience that will help her shine today and into the future. Girl Scouts at Home Want to make nachos outside, figure out why the moon seems to change shape, or learn first aid that could help in an emergency? Power Her Girl Scout Activities with the Nut and Cookie Programs Girl Scouts turn their passion into action. Your girl will build her planning, teamwork, and entrepreneurial skills when she participates in the Girl Scout Fall Product and Cookie Programs. Proceeds from her sales help her achieve her dreams-going on a trip she’ll never forget, participating in a STEM activity that opens her mind, leading a service project that changes her community, and building a lifetime of memories with friends at camp. And now, everything can be done online-including payments-so these programs are easier than ever to participate in. See page 20 for information on the Fall Product Program.

Let Her Be a Force of Nature She’s already the best version of herself. Sometimes she just needs the view from the top of a mountain, a swim in a lake, or a night camping under a sky full of stars to see it for herself. Whether your girl tries archery, swimming, boating, cooking over a fire, or doing arts n’ crafts, she’ll have fun, build new friendships, and challenge herself in the outdoors. Did you know?  According to the Girl Scout Research Institute, girls unleash their potential to become environmental stewards and enhance their socioemotional and leadership skills, positive values, a sense of self, challenge seeking skills, and healthy relationships-all while attending Girl Scout Camp.  Beyond their camp experience, alumni noted that they were more appreciative of diversity, able to persevere, and have a willingness to try new things. At day camp your camper will:  Take safe risks in an all-girl environment  Be introduced to the overnight experience  Begin leadership immersion through the Program Aide and CIT programs At overnight camp your camper can:  Gain independence as she explores personal interests  Engage in high adventure programming such as sailing, white water rafting, off-site base camping trips, and on-site rock climbing  Immerse in leadership development programming through the CIT I and CIT II programs If your girl can dream it, GSWISE can help her do it. As you begin planning your Girl Scout’s year, ensure camping, outdoor themed events, and Summer Camp are part of your plans. Journey and Badge in a Box Choose Your Own Adventure We’d like to introduce you to Journey and Badge in a Box, perfect for individual girls and troops! Choose a badge or Journey award from the Girl Scout menu below, and let us do all the work preparing you for the adventure. Each Journey or Badge in a Box comes fully stocked with a lesson plan and all required supplies needed to earn the badge or award. We will even print the Volunteer Toolkit materials if you don’t have access to the VTK or a printer. Pick up boxes at your local Resource Center. We know you’ll find these boxes to be a time saver, affordable, and helpful in addressing the needs and interests of your girl(s). How to Register for Events Adventures for Every Girl Your girl is ready to press “play” on her dreams. And GSWISE is ready to help make her dreams a reality. There are adventures for every girl to discover what she’s passionate about, learn new things, and be her best self today and into the future. •

Events are offered in person or virtually.

•

Events are a great way to start or complete requirements for an earned award.

•

Events are facilitated by staff, volunteers, and/or girls (under supervision), and community partners.

•

All GSWISE-sponsored events are fun, interactive, educational, held to the highest safety standards, and developed to meet the needs of all girls.

•

Some events require that chaperones register for the event and accompany girls during the event. These events are indicated with the chaperone CH symbol.

•

Some events are appropriate for the whole family, including siblings. Look for the family F symbol.

Registration Details •

•

Overnight event registration closes two weeks before the event. Day events close either one week or two days before the event. Registration deadlines are listed in the event details for each event at gswise.org>MYGS>Find Events. All events are subject to change. Refer to gswise.org>MYGS>Find Events for details.

How to Register •

COVID-19 Safety at In-Person Events Event Financial Assistance All girls can pursue their ambitions. Financial assistance is available to help girl members participate in Girl Scout events. Financial assistance can be considered for one event per season (fall, spring, summer) per girl. To request event financial assistance, select the Financial Assistance box during online registration. A Financial Assistance Form will be emailed to the family to complete and submit. Financial assistance is funded by proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program and gifts to Girl Scouting.

Program Activity Credits (PACs) Girls earn PACs by participating in the Girl Scout Fall Product and Cookie Programs. Credits can be used to pay for all or partial event fees. To redeem PACs, select “Program Credits” as your payment method during online registration. A PAC Form will be emailed to the family to complete and submit.

Please know we are taking necessary precautions to ensure your safety and the safety of our staff and event volunteers while participating in in-person council events, including: • Masks will be required indoors. • Temperatures will be taken during event check-in. • Event capacities will be reduced as needed to observe 6’ distancing guidelines. • Unless necessary, girls will not share program supplies, if sharing is necessary, supplies/equipment will be sanitized between uses. • Wipes and sanitizer are available in every room. • We have established enhanced cleaning/disinfecting guidelines. • Registrants who feel ill on the day of the event should stay home, we can make exceptions and provide refunds. • Due to the ever-evolving COVID-19 guidelines, registrants impacted by event changes or cancellations will be contacted. Current detailed safety guidelines for in-person events will be outlined in your confirmation.

How to Register for Events Adult Volunteers/Chaperones

Confirmations and Recognitions Event confirmation details are available at gswise.org>MYGS>My Events>Upcoming Events two weeks prior to the event. Share the event confirmation with everyone registered from your group. When applicable, earned awards will be provided at events. Related awards are available for purchase at your local Resource Center. Awards for virtual events will be available for pickup at your local Resource Center, or opt for the award to be mailed ($1 fee) by contacting us at 800-565-4475 or customercare@gswise.org.

Program Aides (PA)

•

Adult volunteers are responsible for obtaining permission slips and for meeting adult-to-girl ratios for the event. All attending adults are expected to assist the girl(s) as needed and to ensure appropriate girl behavior.

Event Cancellations Policy

Girls in grades 6-12 can strengthen their leadership skills, channel their confidence, and work directly with younger girls as a Program Aide! They can assist at events and lead activities to turn their goals into reality. •

Adults chaperoning girls other than their daughter are required to be registered with Girl Scouts of the USA as an adult member. Safety is our number one priority. We can ensure the safety of all Girl Scouts and Girl Scout volunteers only when adults become registered members and complete the required background check.

How PAs register: •

Go to gswise.org>MYGS>Find Events.

•

Find events that interest you where you are at least two years older than the event participants.

•

Find the event name with “PA” in front of it and use that link to complete your registration. PAs do not pay a registration fee.

Cancellations are available when requested more than 2 weeks ahead of an event. A $5 cancellation processing fee will be incurred for each registrant. Refunds are not available when cancelling within two weeks of the event. If you would like to change the event or date, please register and pay for the new session and contact us at 800-565-4475 or customercare@gswise.org to process a cancellation. If the event is cancelled by the council, full refunds will be issued. Refunds should be received within two weeks from when the cancellation was processed.

Introducing Rallyhood! We are excited to introduce Rallyhood, a communications and collaboration digital platform that integrates the many functions we need to communicate, collaborate, share files, organize events, collect money, and build a strong, connected Girl Scouts community! Rallyhood has worked with Girl Scout families, volunteers, and Council staff around the country for years and has designed specific functionality for Girl Scouts to help us create a more consistent way to stay organized and engaged online. Earn the Coding for Good: Digital Game Design badge from the comfort of your own home on your own schedule. CodeCampKidz will guide you step by step as you work through your projects. Explore how programmers write code for computers and use Bootstrap to begin to understand how video games are created. You will learn about the Bootstrap toolkit for creating pages that automatically change their appearance based on the viewing device (phone, tablet, laptop). In the process you will create a suite of professional tools that you can re-use and customize for your own future development efforts. The Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards represent the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. These awards celebrate the dreamers and doers who are making their communities a better place, and are proof that not only can girls make a difference, but that they already have. Whether you want to focus on health and wellness, animals, STEM, public safety, education, the environment, or any other issue, you’ll inspire others and learn more about yourself. As you earn one of Girl Scouting’s highest awards, you’ll change your corner of the world—and maybe even beyond.

Girls going for the Gold must receive council approval at two occasions, first prior to starting the project and second after project completion. Girls will correspond with a representative from the Highest Awards Mentor Committee for these project approvals. • To obtain first project approval, girls must submit their Proposal in GoGold at least three weeks prior to the tentative start date of the project. • To obtain second project approval, girls must submit their Final Report in GoGold after project completion (final deadline is September 30 of the same year they graduate High School). Upon submission of the Proposal or Final Report, the council will connect the Girl Scout with a representative from the Highest Awards Mentor Committee. Girls will correspond with the committee member to gain council approval though email, text messages, phone calls, video calls, and/or in-person meetings. If girls wish to connect with the Highest Awards Mentor Committee prior to submitting a Project Proposal, simply contact Customer Care at 800-565-4475 or customercare@gswise.org to be connected earlier in the process. Older Girl Scouts can lead, or assist leading, specific activities for younger girls while fine-tuning their own skills. Girls can serve as PAs at council and service unit events, within a troop, and at camp. PAs need to be at least two years older than the girls they are working with. Grades 10–12 This is an opportunity for girls who’d like to mentor a younger Girl Scout group in a setting other than camp. Members provide perspective on issues facing girls today, develop valuable leadership skills, and participate in enriching topics of interest with guest speakers, and more. Girls attend 3-4 meetings over one school year and may be invited to additional special council events. Girl Board Members for the GSWISE Board of Directors Grades 10-12 Looking for a unique leadership experience? Be the voice of girls as you help Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast make strategic decisions about the organization in order to fulfill our mission. Each year, GSWISE accepts applications for the position of girl board member to serve on the Board of Directors for a one-year term with full voting privileges. Girl board members are elected annually and attend 4-6 board meetings. They work alongside the Chief Executive Officer and other adult board members who are community and business leaders in our jurisdiction. Girls must be registered Girl Scouts, 14 years old, and a high school sophomore, junior, or senior by the time the term begins on October 1, 2022. Every year girls are having the most awesome, unforgettable trips of their lives traveling through Girl Scout Destinations. Next summer this could be you! Experience incredible travel opportunities, meet girls from around the country and the world, and return feeling inspired and empowered. Girl Scout Destinations take Girl Scouts 11 years old and older on unique trips ranging from dog sledding in Minnesota to discovering the Amazon in Peru, Broadway in New York to astronautics in Alabama. Trips generally happen in the summer, range from several days to a couple weeks long, and are sponsored by Girl Scout councils across the country or Girl Scouts of the USA-approved organizations, like Outward Bound. The time to explore the world is now! Gain experiences of a lifetime while visiting new places with friends from GSWISE. Join experienced travel adults from our council who will guide your world tour. Try new foods, immerse yourself in different languages, and experience new cultures. Girls will meet several times before the trip to prepare and learn what to expect. Build your character, increase your confidence, and test your courage as you voyage out into the world with girls and adults from our own council. Girls must be 14 or older at the time of travel. There is an opportunity to get one high school credit for participating in a trip! It is never too late to become a GSWISE Global Girl. Though the sooner you enroll, the more time you’ll have to plan financially.

Community Event Providers are local organizations and businesses offering experiences that connect Girl Scouts with their community and the world around them. Activities are aligned with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience or are considered a beneficial opportunity for Girl Scouts.
