Council Sponsored Programs/Events

These events are led by staff, community partners, or volunteers. Leaders or approved adults are required to attend events with their Girl Scouts and are responsible for ensuring the safety and behavior management of the girls. If a girl is attending without a troop, a caregiver must chaperone and be responsible for only their girl at an event. All overnights require official Volunteer status including membership & background check.

How to register for programs online:

Step 1: Access My Events

There's 2 places you can search for events:

From the website (gswny.org)

• Go to the Events tab

• Use the search box at the top of the Event List to find your event/camp/ training or click on the event calendar to look for activities by month.

• Click on the name of the event for more details.

From your My GS/My Account

• Log in to your account, click on My Account

.

• Select My Events on the left sidebar.

• Select Register for another event under My Events title.

Step 2: Search for an event

• Enter a zip code (required) where you would like to search (your own or any zip code)

• For virtual events/trainings use zip code: 14225

• Enter in a search radius (required)

• Search for the program you want using the various search features.

Step 3: Register for an event

• Once you find an event, choose Event Details to review details about event.

• Use the + to select the number of girls and/or adults that you are registering for this event in the right-side panel.

• Scroll down and select the green Log in or Add Events button. You will be prompted to sign in or create an account if you don’t currently have a My GS account.

• On the next page, under Assign Attendees, select either My Household or My Troop Member (if you are a Troop Leader registering troop girls)

⬥ Choose your first attendee

▪ Choose payment option for the attendee. You may have to choose a payment option even if the event is free.

▪ Click Next Participant and repeat the process until all attendees are added

Once all attendees have been added, choose Submit Member Details.

• Register for additional event? To register for another event in this transaction, click on the Girl Scout logo in the green header and search for the next event. Follow steps above to register.

• Click on Review Cart.

• Accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law at the bottom of the right panel (this must be checked in order to move on).

• Click on Add Payment Details.

• Add payment information and Submit Payment.

• You will see a payment confirmation showing the order number and the email address where the receipt will be sent. You may also Print Receipt if needed for troop financial reporting purposes.

Step 4: Now that you’re registered

On your confirmation page, you can choose Manage My Account to take you to your My GS account.

• Click on My Events tab in the left panel to see a list of all your events.

Registration deadlines:

Registrations are accepted until the program is full or when the registration deadlines are hit, whichever comes first. Registration deadline are strictly adhered to.

Confirmation:

Confirmation emails will be sent prior to the program, after registration ends, to the email address attached to the girl record.

Program space:

Program space is limited. Attendance capacity is based on the needs of the program itself and cannot be adjusted due to late registration, transfer requests, troop needs, etc. Program capacity and space availability can be viewed online.

Program cancellations & refunds:

• If cancellation notice is received at least 15 days prior to the program date, a full refund will be issued back to the original form of payment. For example, for a program on March 10th, the cancellation notice must be received by February 23rd.

• If cancellations are received less than 15 days in advance of the program date, with the exception of illness or family emergencies, a 50% refund will be issued back to the original form of payment. For example, for a program on March 10th, a cancellation notice received on February 24th or later would be eligible for a 50% refund. Please note that this policy is in place, because most of the planning and purchasing is completed at least 15 days prior.

• Refunds will NOT be given for late arrivals, early departures or no shows.

• If a registrant has a family emergency or is sick, a refund request must be made no later than 10 business days after the program date to receive a full refund.

• The council will provide a full refund if an activity is cancelled due to insufficient registrations, acts of nature, or other reasons beyond its control.

• Many council activities are held rain or shine, please know that registrants choosing not to attend because of the weather will not be eligible for a refund within 15 days of the event start date.

• Please complete The GSWNY Program Cancellation & Refund Request form to submit a cancellation or refund request. The form can be found at https://www.gswny.org/en/our-council/news/2021/gswny_ council_sponso.html

• Refunds can take up to 30 days to process.

Belize: Wildlife Adventure

The Highest Awards in Girl Scouting

Bronze Award

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can earn. Girls work together as a group to complete a Take Action project that directly benefits the Girl Scout community, or the girls’ local community or neighborhood.

Grade Levels Girls must be in 4th or 5th grade and a registered Girl Scout Junior

Overview First complete a Junior Journey

Take action on a community issue the troop or group cares about

Help and guidance is provided by the troop/group volunteer

Council approval is needed for any money earning

Silver Award

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can achieve and gives girls a chance to work with a small team or as an individual. Girls focus on projects that make lasting change in their communities.

Girls must be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade and a registered Girl Scout Cadette

First complete a Cadette Journey and complete the Silver Award Training

Work as an individual or in a small group

Take action on a community issue that the girls care about Help and guidance is provided by the troop/ group volunteer Council approval is needed for any money earning

Gold Award

The Girl Scout Gold Award represents the pinnacle of Girl Scout leadership progression. Open to Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors, this prestigious award challenges them to change the world by solving a community problem in an innovative and sustainable way.

Girls must be in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade and a registered Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador

First complete two Journeys (Senior or Ambassador) or Earn the Silver Award and complete one Senior or Ambassador Journey and complete the Gold Award Training

Conquer Camping 2 will take your camping skills to the next level – from cabin camping to tent camping! We will go through the basics of tent camping including a hike with compass and navigation skills, water filtration, and Leave No Trace principles. As you take the next step as an outdoor camper, you will also gain experience in skills like campsite selection, knife and saw safety and use, fire starting and meal prep, to name a few. This program will include a snack on Friday, 3 meals and a snack on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday as well as the Camping badge based on your current Girl Scout Level. Please note that there is no Senior level Camping badge for this program. Junior Scouts will earn the Camper Badge and Cadette Scouts will earn the Primitive Camper Badge. Adult leaders and volunteer attendees who actively participate will earn requirements necessary to take girls tent camping. IMPORTANT NOTE – Since we have a limited supply of tents, girls who are interested in sleeping in backpacking style tents will need to come with a tent. This epic program will provide time for each participant to learn, review and practice tent building, sawing, archery, compass, emergency prep, fire building, sharps, knots, and more! The evening will include a fun scavenger hunt, a campfire and songs. This program includes 9 hours of outdoor skills instruction and practice in preparation for the 3rd step of the Skill Builder Series and fun competition: Skills & Chills! Girls will learn about the Skills & Chills event format and traditions through mini competitions and fun activities throughout the day. Meals and Snack will be provided as well. Active Adult participant fee also includes meals/snacks, and fulfills the Safety Activity Checkpoints: Camping Training Requirements.

Explore the architectural design aspects of the Martin House and gain a deeper understanding of a career in architecture.

After the tour, girls will have the opportunity to create their own architectural design drawing. All Girl Scouts will receive the Martin House patch. Adults attending must register and will participate in a private guided tour of the Martin House.

Juniors, Cadette, Seniors, and Ambassadors will learn the fundamentals and safety practices of archery, make a “string bow” to learn good form for shooting before going to the range and spending the second hour target shooting. Join us for the day and learn canoe and water safety, the proper way to wear a PFD (lifejacket), the parts of the canoe, and basic canoe paddling skills. Pack a bagged lunch and we can enjoy a meal out on the lake, play some games on the water and maybe even try to build your own canoe. See you at camp!
