Dear Girl Scout Family, Reflecting back on 2022, our mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place is powerful and so significant and more relevant than ever. Our Girl Scouts are ready to rise to this challenge and it’s our responsibility to nurture and guide them. In 2022, more than 5,000 volunteers engaged with nearly 10,200 Girl Scouts to find personal growth and joy through scouting. To all our volunteers, donors and supporters, thank you. We are all part of the Girl Scout community united around a common goal: serving Girl Scouts as they mature to be our next generation leaders.

Council Employees Full-Time Staff: 68 Part-Time Staff: 9

We remain one of the strongest mid-size councils in the nation with

15,452 members and 986 troops. Girl Members: 10,105

We are proud and gratified to see our membership growing again, as we continue to rebound from the earlier COVID-impacted years and we remain ready to “be the change” that guides Girl Scouts on their journey. We would be remiss if we didn’t reflect on the tragedies that devastated our region this past year. From the horrific racially-motivated mass shooting in Buffalo, to the intense winter storm that tore through our region, and more, we lost many lives. Girl Scouts were present and engaged in these recovery and healing efforts. Together as a community and a united Girl Scout family, we grieve, reflect, and heal together.

Adult and Lifetime Members: 5,347

Thank you for your participation and for making Girl Scouts of WNY a safe place for all girls to learn, grow and form lasting friendships. Yours in Girl Scouting,

Lynnette Haley O’Stewart, Ph.D, President, Board of Directors Alison Wilcox Chief Executive Officer 2

Our Volunteers

More than 2,000 Troop Co-Leaders provided a safe, nurturing environment where girls could explore their world, try new experiences, and take the lead.

Being an effective Troop Leader requires coordination, teamwork, and excellent communication skills – as well as flexibility and a sense of humor!

60 volunteers serve in a Service Unit Management role which includes Operations, Volunteer and Program Coordinators.

These volunteers give tirelessly to set a vision for their area, organize meetings, coordinate volunteer teams, and serve as a communication liaison with the council.

5

More than 250 volunteers serve as Service Unit Team personnel who offer administrative support for their neighborhood.

From finances to recruitment, cookies to recognitions, welcome specialists to programming – their skills provided our troop leaders with local assistance and a robust experience for our girls.

At the council level, volunteers share their talents in a variety of ways.

These include “Friends Of” groups at all of our camp properties, as well as the Outdoor Programming Committee, Gold Award Mentors, Trip Chaperones, and more. Our Council Delegates also form the core group of our Volunteer Advisory Panel, which meets twice yearly to offer insight on council planning. 6

2022 Outdoor and Camp Highlights GSWNY owns and maintains nearly 1,800 acres of wooded land, with four primary properties: Camp Seven Hills, Camp Piperwood, Camp Windy Meadows, and Camp Timbercrest

GSWNY’s camp and outdoor programs proved to be a vital outlet for our girls. After months of uncertainty and limited capacity, our properties were the first spaces girls could gather for in-person programming and socializing. Our goal is to make sure everyone has access to green spaces and can enjoy the beauty of nature. 3,300 girls were able to develop or enhance their outdoor and leadership skills while building friendships to last a lifetime.
