Praise for Local Police by Louise Clarke HOW OFTEN do we hear stories about heavy handed tactics by Local Police and Guardia Civil officers? RTN is always getting e-mails from readers complaining about the lack of care and concern shown to them by officers from the Spanish police authorities, so it was pleased to receive an e-mail from a reader who was so happy with the treatment she received from the San Fulgencio Local Police that she wanted to shout it from the rooftops. Audrey Radmore from La Marina was excited about going back to the UK for her granddaughter’s wedding and was due to go and get her nails done in preparation for the special occasion. She made her way to the nail salon on the urbanisation, saw a parking space just outside the shop and pulled into the space. She didn’t hear or feel anything, but then all of a sudden, a British man approached her car and started screaming at her that she had hit his car with hers as she manoeuvred into the space. Audrey said: “He started punching the car door and was calling me all the names under the sun, it was so frightening.” AGGRESSIVE Fortunately, a Spanish couple witnessed the whole incident and rushed to her aid. “They told the man that he was breaking the law by attacking the car and that he should stop immediately. The aggressive man just responded by saying; ‘you can tell that you are Spanish because you are ignorant’, I couldn’t believe it,” exclaimed Audrey.

With that, the Spanish man, called the San Fulgencio Local Police and within minutes they were at the scene. Audrey added: “He suddenly stopped shouting when the police arrived and asked me not to get them involved but by this time I was in shock, hyperventilating and very frightened.” Audrey has recently undergone open heart surgery and thanks to the fact that a paramedic was in the police car with the officers, she did not need to attend hospital. SUPPORTIVE She told RTN: “The paramedic was great and helped me to calm down. As it was a hot day, the police officers put me in their car and put the air conditioning on. The officers were fantastic with me and were helpful, friendly and supportive. When I denounced the man at the Guardia Civil in Guardamar, thee officers there were equally friendly and helpful.” She added: “You hear so many horrible things about the police here in Spain but every officer that I met was excellent in every way and I want everyone to know about it. I cannot stress enough just how wonderfully helpful they were and I want RTN to tell everyone my story.” After all that, there was hardly any damage to the man’s car, but Audrey’s has several bumps in hers thanks to his kicks and punches! She commented: “The insurance company said that there wasn’t enough damage for him to make a claim, which is quite ironic and considering the fuss he made, anyone would think that I’d written his car off!”

Officers from the Local Police in La Marina were excellent in every way

Woman stabs husband

A DOMESTIC fight between a married couple ended with the wife allegedly stabbing her husband. The local police in San Fulgencio were called to the incident in La Marina on Tuesday evening after a 112 call from a neighbour and the man was found with stab wounds to the chest. He was taken by ambulance to Torrevieja Hospital in a serious condition and his wife was taken by

Guardia Civil officers to their station in Guardamar for questioning. According to sources, the incident happened shortly after 21:00 on Tuesday evening in a house on the La Marina urbanisation and following the rapid intervention of the Local Police, Guardia Civil and emergency services, the man was able to be treated quickly; which the sources say probably saved his life.

It appears that the woman stabbed her husband in the chest with a kitchen knife during the argument and when approached by officers, is alleged to have admitted that she just couldn’t take his abuse any longer. She offered no resistance to her arrest and her husband remains in a stable condition at Torrevieja following surgery to repair a stab wound to his lung.
