With the Gilbert holiday season quickly approaching, I am excited to announce new events along with some additions to our favorite festivities. Gilbert will be hosting its first Downtown Concert Series to be held at the Water Tower Plaza. This exciting change of location for our concert parks will bring Gilbert families and friends to the Heritage Square to enjoy evenings full of music and fun! Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant then come out to see one of the many local bands ready to fill the Water Tower Plaza with music. Join us on a special night November 20th to see the Heritage Square lighting to ring in the holiday season! Celebrate your patriotism, American pride by honoring our veterans! The ceremony features presentation of colors, music by local schools, special guest speakers, food and refreshments, and much more. Join us on November 6th 11am at the Civic Center Campus. Gilbert Days is just around the corner. This traditional celebration of the heritage of Gilbert includes activities for all Gilbert residents including the return of the Gilbert Days 5k & 1 Mile on November 14th and the Parade and Festival on November 22nd. A new addition to this celebration includes the Gilbert Half Marathon & 10k also on November 22nd. The Riparian Preserve comes alive with a holiday glow! Stroll around the candle-lit trail at Water Ranch Lake with hundreds of luminaries as well as numerous festive light displays at every turn. This is a rare opportunity for those who appreciate nature to experience the thrill of nighttime at the preserve. December 12, 13, 19, 20- 6pm-9pm Usher in the holiday season with the 8th Annual Caroling at the Perry Branch Library & Perry High School! NEW! Changes to Gilbert’s Community Fishing Program Gilbert Parks and Recreation is excited to announce that the lakes at Freestone Park are now part of the Community Fishing Program. This site will be stocked with fish on a similar schedule to McQueen and Discovery lakes. Also, beginning January 2015, Water Ranch Lake will be converted to catch-and-release only for bass and sunfish. Anglers will still be able to catch-and-keep trout, catfish and all other species. Also included in the changes is a conversion to using single barbless hooks only at Water Ranch, however bait can still be used. These changes are being made in order to reduce waterfowl injuries at the Riparian. Fish stockings at all locations will begin in September/October at all sites. Please check out www.azgfd.gov for stocking schedules, bag limits, and license regulations.

The Town of Gilbert developed the Neighbor 2 Neighbor Program to provide an easy way for Gilbert residents to help one another. 100% of funds donated are distributed to nonprofit agencies that provide assistance to Gilbert’s low-income families, individuals, disabled, seniors and at-risk youth. Gilbert residents can sign up to include a donation amount from $2.00 to $20.00 a month included with their utility bill. One time donations can also be made. To find out more about the Neighbor 2 Neighbor Donation Program, go to the www.gilbertaz.gov/utilities or call 480-503-6800. Sign up now to assist a Gilbert neighbor in need. By making a minimum donation, your contribution can help:  Provide nutritious meals in food boxes.  Transport elderly homebound residents to medical appointments.  Provide safe shelter for a homeless individual or family.  Provide an emergency rent payment to prevent eviction and homelessness.  Provide after school activities for Gilbert youth while their parents are at work.
