Summer is a great time to take advantage of all that our aquatic facilities have to offer including swim lessons, recreation swim and dive, public swim and special events. Check out all the aquatic programs in our Splash Guide at www.gilbertaz.gov/aquatics. Splash into summer beginning May 26th when all Gilbert pools open for public swim. Did you know that Gilbert Parks and Recreation offers many FREE family events? •

Be sure to join us for the Safe pool’s Day Luau on April 28th 11a-2pm at Mesquite Aquatics Center. We will have FREE swimming and fun activities.

Bring a blanket and lawn chair to the park at Gilbert Community Center and enjoy a FREE Movie in the Park. Come early to enjoy our vendors. The Gilbert Parks & Recreation Adaptive Recreation Program strives to provide a comfortable, inviting, educational, and social environment where participants can learn and interact with others. The goal is to provide the best opportunities for participants to enrich their lives.

Join us at the CREATE studio in the Arizona Science Center where we will design and make your very own lighted lantern! After we make our creations we will go to lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Phoenix. Please bring an additional $15-25 for lunch. Transportation is provided and is limited to 20 passengers. PANGAEA HOME OF THE DINOSAURS

Transport yourself in time and travel back to the days of dinosaurs! Join us every other Wednesday night as we get together for a social hour with friends! We will play bingo, sing karaoke, boogie to the top hits, and more as we spend some time getting to know each other. AR Classes ADAPTIVE GYMNASTICS

This class is available to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Adaptive Gymnastics will allow your loved one to focus on their individual skills which will include a balance beam routine or a floor exercise routine. All gymnast will also master 2 of the 5 following skills: a stuck landing, a tuck, a somersault, a cartwheel or a round-off. This class is a level 1 gymnastics class and will provide an inclusive, encouraging and empowering environment for all athletes to compete, grow and challenge themselves. KARAOKE DANCE PARTY

Do you love to move and groove when you turn on the tunes? This class will teach simple activity, party, and line dances using some of your favorite music. Favorites will include the Macarena, the Cupid Shuffle, The Cha Cha Slide, and many more popular dances. There will also be time each week to dance your own way to popular tunes. This is an up-tempo, high energy class that will be sure to please all you dance lovers out there! RECREATION BOWLING

Individuals with special needs 8 years and older are encouraged to join in the fun of bowling. Taking part in this sport provides individuals the chance to develop physical fitness, self-confidence and build strong relationships. Those needing extra supervision must provide his/her own aide. SANCHIN-RYU KARATE ADAPTIVE STUDIES

Have fun learning the fundamental movements of Sanchin-Ryu. Benefits include: enhanced balance and coordination, improved motor skills, enhanced communication skills and useful self-defense techniques. ZUMBA

This is a slower paced cardio workout designed for beginners and those with physical limitations. Summer Break Specialty Camps SPORTBALL CAMPS

Sportball utilizes developmentally appropriate techniques to enhance motor skills, social skills and sport strategy. In order to develop each child’s independence, confidence and teamwork skills, we respectfully request parents remain outside of the classroom. If there is anxiety, coaches will work with parent and child in class to reach a level of comfort. All coaches are professionally trained and must pass a rigorous Sportball certification process. Teach your LEGO bricks some pretty cool tricks in this exciting LEGO engineering summer camp! KINDERBRIDGES ENRICHMENT CAMP

Transitioning from kindergarten to first grade can be an intimidating experience for some children. Kinderbridges will help your child transition successfully by continuing to refine their phonics, reading, writing and math skills in a positive, nurturing environment. This camp wouldn’t be complete without adding in FUN hands-on science, arts & craft and games to round out their camp experience! Kinderbridges will allow your child more time to grow and give them the confidence to succeed before returning to school! This enrichment camp is designed for those trying to catch up or even get ahead of the curve entering 2nd grade. We’re dedicated to building confidence, improving motivation and refining concepts of shape, space, time, colors and numbers. We’ll practice these skills to help use them with ease. MOVIE STAR CAMP

Your OSCAR® award awaits! Experience the fun of starring in a movie! Students will learn the art of oncamera acting, improvisational acting, and scriptwriting while starring in a short, professional, and imaginative family movie. Developed by a Disney and Nickelodeon producer, the curriculum this summer will focus on understanding healthy conflicts that exist between each character in your movie script. In addition, the OSCAR class will be given an opportunity to write, storyboard, and direct their own short movie. Campers will then be invited to a VIP, red-carpet movie premiere experience with their family and friends on Thursday, September 20th at the Southeast Regional Library. MOVIES BY KIDS is a creative program designed for teaching young students the exciting process of movie making and animation. All student films will be made available for download online approximately 2-4 weeks after each camp has ended. Movies By Kids Staff supervised lunch from 12-1pm for students taking both morning and afternoon camps. All camps are staffed by Movies By Kids.

Sportball utilizes developmentally appropriate techniques to enhance motor skills, social skills and sport strategy. In order to develop each child’s independence, confidence and teamwork skills, we respectfully request parents remain outside of the classroom. Gilbert Youth Volleyball League Summer 2018 Gilbert Parks and Recreation is thrilled to announce its Summer 2018 Gilbert Youth Volleyball Season. The league is open for both girls and boys ages 7-14 and is designed for beginning to intermediate level players. The season runs 6 weeks and each week consists of 1 indoor practice (Monday or Tuesday nights at McQueen Park Activity Center) and 1 game (Saturday mornings at Mesquite Junior High School). The program begins the week of June 4. Registration fee is $90 per participant and includes coaching, player uniform, and games. Program information is available at GilbertRecreation.com. Registration begins at 7:00 AM on Tuesday, March 6. Deadline to register is May 17 or when league fills. Each team will be assigned a coach with a high level of volleyball knowledge. This program’s emphasis is skill development. Participants will learn the essential skills and components of the game. The league format gives participants the opportunity to receive the benefits that come with a team sport including; building confidence, developing relationships, and the value of commitment. Sensory play and Storytime welcomes all types of learners and is especially good for wigglers 1 - 5 years old who have trouble in regular storytime. Play time follows a shortened version of storytime where the library will provide puppets, manipulatives, and dramatic play activities for 20-25 minutes of intentional play which encourages early literacy skills! This playtime provides the necessary bonding with your child as well as social time for your child with their peers. Paws to Read pairs Delta-registered therapy animals and their handlers with young readers. Warm, brown eyes and happy grins make all the difference to children’s reading experiences resulting in an increase in reading levels and word recognition, and a higher desire to read and write. The animals listen and don’t tease, laugh, or judge the children. Plus, the animals love to be read to! Sign up for a therapy animal will begin at 10:15 a.m. for a 15-minute time slot between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Which animal the child will read to will be on a first-come, first-served basis the day of the program.
