Click HERE or log on to GilbertRecreation.com  Click ‘Create NEW Account’ tab  Enter ALL family members that reside within the household (there must be an parent or legal guardian listed on the account). When finished, click on ‘CREATE NEW ACCOUNT’.  Any changes or additions to your account can be made by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department or email Recreation@gilbertaz.gov.

REGISTER OR “PAY-AS-YOU-GO”

By registering for classes online, you will guarantee your spot in class! Go to GilbertRecreation.com to get registered. It is not any cheaper to “Pay-As-You-Go”.

Gilbert Parks & Recreation offers a “Pay-As-You-Go” option for our Adaptive Recreation classes only! Payment is due at the time of class. This option is only available to be paid at the Gilbert Community Center or at offsite classes such as bowling. If you are new and have never attended a class, please make sure you call ahead of time to make sure we have availability for you! We also appreciate “Pay-As-You-Go’ users to RSVP for the session, so we can be prepared with supplies. If you do not RSPV and the class is full, you will not be able to attend the class. This is a great way to try something new or save money if you can’t attend class each week. This option is not available for classes that have FULL registration and is never available for our Cooking class.


ADAPTIVE RECREATION ADAPTIVE RECREATION OVERVIEW The Gilbert Parks & Recreation Adaptive Recreation Program strives to provide a comfortable, inviting, educational, and social environment where participants can learn and interact with others. The goal is to provide the best opportunities for participants to enrich their lives.

ADAPTIVE RECREATION CLASSES ADAPTIVE RECREATION

ADAPTIVE YOGA Class will include breathing exercises for calming and learning yoga poses to improve coordination, balance, and focusing skills. BEGINNING SIGN LANGUAGE Come Learn the basics of American Sign Language! This course will teach basic grammar and Deaf culture lessons as well as lay the foundation of communication in ASL. Subjects such as the alphabet, colors, animals, foods and more will be discussed. 12+ YEARS 6908 W 5/31-7/26 4:30-5:30pm CC $45 Instructor: Lauren Cantrell

COOKING 101 In your cooking class, we will provide easy to follow recipes that are fun to make and fast to put together. We will also learn basic kitchen safety tips. How-to instructions will be provided each week to re-create at home. Bring home the skills to be a great chef! The possibilities are endless! HANDMADE CRAFTS Come have fun with your friends while making a new craft each week. Each handmade craft will be a great keepsake item for yourself or to give as a gift. This class is designed specifically for persons with special needs. Can’t come every week? Pay as you go. You must RSVP to guarantee your spot, no exceptions! KARAOKE DANCE PARTY Do you love to move and groove when you turn on the tunes? This class will teach simple activity, party, and line dances using some of your favorite music. Favorites will include the Macarena, the Cupid Shuffle, The Cha Cha Slide, and many more popular dances. There will also be time each week to dance your own way to popular tunes. This is an up-tempo, high energy class that will be sure to please all you dance lovers out there! 12+ YEARS 6724 T 5/30-7/25* 4:30-5:30pm CC $40/$5 per week Instructor: Jennifer Myers *No Class 7/4

RECREATION BOWLING Individuals with special needs 8 years and older are encouraged to join in the fun of bowling. Taking part in this sport provides individuals the chance to develop physical fitness, self-confidence and build strong relationships. Those needing extra supervision must provide his/her own aide. Register in advance to guarantee your bowling lane. Can’t come every week; pay as you go. Practices will be held at Brunswick Zone XL; 1160 S. Gilbert Rd. Register early space is limited! ZUMBA This is a slower paced cardio workout designed for beginners and those with physical limitations. Easy to follow dance steps are set to unique Latin dance music to help maximize caloric output with fun, fat burning movements. This class increases skills in coordination, balance, discipline, memory, and movement. 13+ YEARS 6322 M 5/30-7/25 5-6pm CC $45/$5 per week Instructor: Michelle Dulansky


7+ years EVENTS MAY 60’S PROM Calling all hippies! It’s time to bust out the tie dye and boogie all night to your favorite hits! Prom this year is 1960’s theme so dress to impress with your best bellbottoms and fringe. We will be enjoying a taco dinner with drinks and desserts and there will be a fun photo booth to capture your memories of the evening! 12+ YEARS 5671 F 5/19 6-9pm CC $5

POTTERY PAINTING AT AS YOU WISH Come join us for a fun day of painting and lunch. Participants will be able to pick any piece or pieces of pottery up to $15 and the price includes the painting fee and tax. We will be stopping at Lenny’s Burger after painting so bring $15-$20 for lunch. Transportation is provided and is limited to 20 passengers. Participants are welcome to join us at As You Wish once the van is full. Registration is required to receive group pricing. 14+ YEARS 5672 F 5/12 10am-1:30pm CC $20

JUNE SPLASHING AND DANCING This special dance is designed specifically for teens and adults with special needs. Join your friends in a fun evening of swimming and dancing. Light refreshments will be served. The pool will be closed to the public and lifeguards will be on duty for this special event. This event will be held at the Mesquite Aquatic Center, 100 W. Mesquite Street. 12+ YEARS 5673 F 6/16 6:30-8:30pm CC $5

DESPICABLE ME 3 AT THE THEATRES It’s opening day for Despicable Me at the theatres! Grab popcorn and relax as we watch this hilarious movie on the big screen! After the movie we will head to Johnny Rockets for lunch so bring extra money for lunch ($15-$20) or any snacks you may want during the movie. Transportation is provided and is limited to 20 passengers. Participants are welcome to join us at Harkins San Tan Village once the van is full. JULY KARAOKE It’s here again! Warm up those vocal chords and get those dance moves ready because it’s karaoke time! Enjoy a night of singing, dancing and socializing with your friends. Food and drinks will be served. Karaoke is held at the Gilbert Community Center, 130 N. Oak St. 8+ YEARS 6038 F 7/21 6-9pm CC $5

LITTLE MERMAID AT HALE THEATRE Join Ariel, Sebastian and Founder under the sea as we watch the tale of The Little Mermaid unfold before our eyes at the Hale Theatre in Gilbert. Before the play we will be eating at Joe’s Real BBQ, so bring an additional 12-15 dollars for dinner. You must register by 6/22 to reserve a ticket. Transportation is provided and is limited to 20 passengers. 14+ YEARS 6729 F 7/7 6-10pm CC $22

AUGUST MOVIE AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER Sit back, relax, and enjoy a movie on the big screen! We will have pizza, popcorn, and drinks! Movie is TBA and will be shown on the big screen inside the Gilbert Community Center, 130 N Oak St. 8+ YEARS 6727 F 8/18 6:30-8:30pm CC $5

SIGN MAKING AT BOARD AND BRUSH Come create your own custom wood sign for yourself or to give as a gift! You will learn to hammer, sand, distress, paint and more as you create a one of a kind project that’s totally your own! We will provide some snacks and after all your hard work we will head over to LoLo’s Chicken and Waffles from some yummy grub! Please bring additional money for food. WEDNESDAY NIGHT SOCIAL NIGHT Join us every other Wednesday night as we get together for a social hour with friends! We will play bingo, sing karaoke, boogie to the top hits, and more as we spend some time getting to know each other. The Town of Gilbert will no longer be providing snacks for social nights, please contact the Community Center at 480-503-6290 if you would like to donate a snack. FREE!! 1. What is the Adaptive Recreation program and who can participate? Gilbert Parks & Recreation, Adaptive Recreation program is targeted towards youth and adults ages 14 and above with developm ental, physical, mental, social and emotional disabilities. We offer classes and activities such as cooking, karate, dances, Special O lympics, field trips, and more that encourage physical, social and leisure skills. 2. Who is allowed in the classrooms with participants? Persons needing assistance with feeding, toileting, or dressing during a program or class are responsible for making arrangements for this assistance. We do not provide this service, however parents or providers are more than welcome to stay with the partici pant in any class, event, or activity. Parents and providers must pay the fee for field trips, but may attend classes and events at n o charge. 3. Do you have to be a Gilbert resident in order to participate in the Adaptive Recreation Program? No, we are proud to serve all residents and nonresidents alike. Gilbert residents will be given a two day priority registration. Class fees are the same for residents and nonresidents. 4. Does Gilbert have an assistance program available for your Adaptive Recreation classes? Yes, the Town of Gilbert Parks & Recreation Department offers an assistance program to help economically disadvantaged partici pants to register for parks and recreation programs to improve their quality of life through recreational opportunities. To apply fo r the Gilbert Assistance Program you will need to complete a form. The form can be picked up and dropped off at the Gilbert Com munity Center, 130 N. Oak St. All forms will remain confidential. 5. Can Individuals with disabilities take any classes offered by the Town of Gilbert? Yes, we encourage all of our participants to consider all leisure programs offered by the Town of Gilbert’s Parks and Recreation de partment. Parents / providers are allowed in the classroom to assist at no additional charge. 6. How do I volunteer to assist with the Gilbert Adaptive Recreation Program? The best way to volunteer is to fill out the online volunteer application form at gilbertaz.gov. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Please note: We do not allow participants to volunteers in our programs due to the large number of participants that want t o volunteer with us. We couldn’t possibly make it fair. We do have other Town sponsored events you can volunteer for, please as k or email krista.neugebauer@gilbertaz.gov. 7. How do I get involved with the Town of Gilbert's Adaptive Recreation program? To get involved with the classes and activities the Gilbert Adaptive Recreation program offers you can sign up online at GilbertRec reation.com search for Adaptive Recreation classes or call the center at 480-503-6290. 8. How can I be put on your mailing list? To be put on our mailing list to receive our newsletter please contact us. We are happy to add you to our list. Call 480-5036290. Our newsletter is sent our five times a year.


PROGRAM POLICY & GUIDELINES Privacy Photographs and videotaping of participants is discouraged by parents/guardians, and/or visitors due to the confidentiality of the participants present. Photographs and video footage taken by staff of your child(ren) as a result of participation in activities may be used in promotional materials. Please inform Camp Challenge staff before your child attends if you do not want your child’s photo or video to be taken.

Pick-Up Policy We can provide supervision for participants only during the listed activity hours. We will not be responsible for participants left waiting for transportation after the scheduled activity time is over. Please plan accordingly. We understand the issues with transportation, if dial-a-ride is not here within the 30min window. Other transportation needs to be provided for the participant such as Uber or Lyft.  

Staff will contact parent/guardian if late pick-up occurs more than 2 times in one session. If a participant is picked up late on three (3) occasions during a session, it may be grounds for suspension from the program until arrangements can be made to ensure that the participant is picked up on time thereafter.

Personal Care/Medication Administration Recreation staff and/or volunteers are not trained nor permitted to provide personal care or medication administration services to our patrons. If you require assistance with personal care or medication administration during participation in one of our programs, you will need to make arrangements to have a caregiver provide those services for you. Caregivers will be allowed to attend programs (except field trips) at no charge provided they are there for the purpose of assisting you. If you require any special equipment, (toiletries special diet foods, medications, etc.) it is your responsibility to provide those items. We are able to assist anyone to and from the restroom, just not with personal care. We are also happy to remind participants to take their own medication if needed.

Changes in Condition Any changes in medication or your overall condition are important for us to know in order to provide you with the highest quality recreation services. Therefore, it is your responsibility to alert the Staff member of any changes that might affect behavior and/or participation in leisure programs with the Parker Recreation Department. Please note that any information reported will remain confidential.

Appropriate Social Behavior For the safety of all our patrons, appropriate behavior is expected of all participants for the duration of all programs. Inappropriate behavior includes but is not limited to physical or verbal aggression towards self or others, intentional theft or damage of personal or public property, any sexual misconduct including but not limited to removal of clothing, touching self or others in a sexual manner, sexual solicitations, comments, and/or obscene gestures, or any behavior that may threaten the safety and/or wellbeing of other patrons. Appropriate intervention will be provided by trained staff/volunteers to manage negative behavior during programs. However, persistent negative behavior will not be tolerated; parents/guardians will be contacted and the participant will be asked to leave the program if he/she cannot be successfully redirected.

Transportation The Gilbert Recreation Department does not provide transportation for participants at this time. Transportation to and from our facilities/program is the responsibility of the participant. Recreation staff/volunteers cannot transport participants in their own vehicles. If you require assistance with transportation, please contact the us for resource information. Transportation is provided for field trips.
