Join us in celebrating the National Park and Recreation Month by taking a selfie at your favorite park, pool, or recreation center and post on Facebook @GilbertParksRec using #GetYourPlayOnGilbert. Save the date for the Gilbert Parks and Recreation Foundation 1st Annual Night in the Park, October 21, 2017. The event is called “Lakeside Luau” and you will be able to experience a real luau with all the entertainment and great food right here in Gilbert. Watch the website www.mygprf.org for more information; tickets will go on sale very soon! Summer is a great time to take advantage of all that our aquatic facilities have to offer including swim lessons, recreation swim, youth swim and dive teams, public swim, and special events. Check out all the aquatic programs in our Splash Guide at gilbertaz.gov/aquatics. Pools open May 27th. Look for our NEW Paddleboard Yoga this summer at various locations in Gilbert. Be sure to join us for the April Pools Day Luau on April 22nd 10am-2pm at Greenfield Pool, 35 S. Greenfield. We will have FREE swimming, fun activities and FREE swim lesson evaluations. Bring a blanket and lawn chair to Page Park at the Gilbert Community Center and enjoy a FREE Movie in the Park. We will be featuring Moana on April 28th at 7:30pm, SING on May 12th at 7:40pm, and Monster Truck on May 26th at 7:45pm. Visit the Heritage District for FREE concerts at the Water Tower Plaza from 6:30-8:30pm. May 11th is Rhythm Addition, May 25th is Latina Rebel Band, and June 8th is Tequila Highway. Bring the family to Higley High School, 4068 E Pecos Rd, for a FREE July 4th Firework celebration from 6:30-8:30pm. Explore the outdoors at The Riparian Preserve Summer Camps. We offer several weekly camps throughout the summer such Earth Science, Junior Naturalist, Life and Physical Science, and Nature Arts and Crafts. Check out dates and times for each camp on page 64 of the Recreation Guide. I invite you to explore and discover all that Gilbert Parks and Recreation has to offer this summer!

Friends of the Foundation Membership registration begins Monday, April 24, 2017. During this time online, mail-in and fax registrations will be available. Online registration begins at 7am. Gilbert Resident registration begins Tuesday, April 25, 2017. During this time online, mail-in and fax registrations will be available. Online registration begins at 7am. Non-resident registration begins Thursday, April 27, 2017. During this time online, walk-in and mail-in registrations will be available. Online registration begins at 7am. Registration is ongoing until programs are filled. Registration forms received prior to the registration dates will not be processed until the registration date as time permits. ONLINE REGISTRATION: is processed in real time. You must “accept” the waiver of liability and make a payment in order to confirm placement in a course/program. Online registration requires a payment by credit card, or by using an existing credit on your recreation account. If you wish to register online but do not want to use a credit card, you may come into the Parks and Recreation office prior to registering and place a credit on your recreation account using cash, check or money order. The credit can then be applied toward any online registration. Print a copy of your online registration receipt for confirmation of your course/program enrollment. MAIL-IN REGISTRATION: forms require an assumption of risk waiver signature by a parent/guardian. Mail-in and walk-in registrations are processed during regular business hours: Monday-Thursday 7am-6pm; CLOSED Fridays. Payment can be made by either cash, check, credit card, or money order. For mail-in registration, do not mail cash. The Town of Gilbert is not responsible for lost or misdirected mail. Payment must be made at the time of the enrollment in order for the registration to be complete. Early registration is encouraged to help prevent course cancellation. WAITLISTS: If you are on a waitlist for a class, and an opening becomes available, a Parks & Recreation staff member will contact the waitlisted clients in order of the waitlisted position. Each waitlisted position will receive a 24 hour window to respond to the opening before the recreation staff member continues on through the waitlisted positions. A participant will be allowed to register for a class as long as the participant reaches the required age anytime during the session, unless otherwise stated in the class description. Gilbert Parks and Recreation Department is committed to being fair and equitable to all participants, therefore we are unable to make exceptions to any class policies. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. The Town of Gilbert has the right to cancel, postpone, combine classes, change rooms and/or instructors at any time. For the most up-to-date information, contact the respective center. A $25 service charge will be assessed on returned checks.

Exceptions are made for participants with special needs who require assistance.  For PARENT/TOT classes, only registered participant and parent are allowed in the classroom. Siblings, including infants, unless registered, are not allowed in the classroom. Parents do not need to register but will be required to sign a waiver of liability on the first day of the session.  Participants should dress appropriately according to the type of class. Tights/leotards and/or loose clothing are recommended for dance/movement classes, sneakers for sports classes, etc. Closed-toe shoes are a must for all classes.  Click on Class Program Policies and Guidelines for a complete list.

REFUND AND CANCELLATION INFORMATION Requests for a credit or refund must be received by 6pm, one week prior to the start of the class, camp and/or program. Please call (480) 503-6200 for more information.  The Town of Gilbert has the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment.

 Early registration is encouraged to help prevent course cancellation.

 If a class or program is cancelled, participants will be notified one week prior to class start date (unless unforeseen circumstances arise) and offered an alternative choice, if available.  If no alternative is available, a full credit will be applied back to the participant’s recreation account. Credits left on recreation accounts can be used for a period of one year from the first date of the class or program for which one originally registered. Such credits may be used for any Gilbert Parks and Recreation Department class, program or rental. Credits not used or refunded after one year will be donated to the Parks and Recreation Foundation.  Upon request, a full refund can be issued for a cancelled class or program.  Refund checks require 2-3 weeks processing time.

 ELLIOT DISTRICT PARK HOME OF BIG LEAGUE DREAMS: This facility is not managed by the Town of Gilbert. Please call 480-813-1270 for information.  BOUNCE HOUSE AREAS: We allow bounce houses in our parks where   

designated with a reservation. An insurance certificate from the inflatable company will be required and the smaller parks will need a generator to operate the inflatables. COSMO DOG PARK-The OFF LEASH areas will be closed each Tuesday morning until noon for routine maintenance. CROSSROADS PARK: Home of AZ Ice (480-503-7080). AZ Ice offers 10%-20% discount for regular priced programs, entrance fees and birthday parties for Gilbert Residents. Also, check out the Recreation Learn to Skate classes offered inside this guide. FREESTONE PARK: The SKATE PARK is closed the first Tuesday of every month for routine maintenance. Home of the Freestone Railroad* (480-632-2702) and the RIP City Batting Cages*(480-497-9548). *Not operated or managed by

Gilbert Assistance Program (GAP) A scholarship program is available to help economically disadvantaged children (age 17 and under) enroll in recreation programming or to obtain facility memberships. To apply for a scholarship for your child(ren), please contact the Gilbert Parks and Recreation office at (480) 503-6200 M-TH from 7am-6pm. You can click here to download form.

The Town of Gilbert developed the Neighbor 2 Neighbor Program to provide an easy way for Gilbert residents to help one another. 100% of funds donated are distributed to non-profit agencies that provide assistance to Gilbert’s low-income families, individuals, disabled, seniors and at-risk youth. Gilbert residents can sign up to include a donation amount from $2.00 to $20.00 a month included with their utility bill. One time donations can also be made. Pilot Program-Youth volleyball league Coming Summer 2017 Coming Summer of 2017, Gilbert Parks and Recreation will be introducing a Youth Recreational Volleyball League that will be offered three seasons per year. The league is open for both girls and boys ages 7-14 and is designed for beginning to intermediate level players. The season runs 6 weeks and each week consists of 1 indoor practice (Monday nights at McQueen Park Activity Center) and 1 game (Saturday mornings at South Valley Junior High School). The program begins the week of June 5th. Registration fee is $90 per participant, and includes coaching, player uniform, and games. Program information is available at GilbertRecreation.com. Registration began on March 7 and is underway. Registration deadline May 25th. Each team will be assigned a coach with a high level of volleyball knowledge. This program’s emphasis is skill development. Participants will learn the essential skills and components of the game. The league format gives participants the opportunity to receive the benefits that come with a team sport including; building confidence, developing relationships, and the value of commitment. ADAPTIVE RECREATION OVERVIEW The Gilbert Parks & Recreation Adaptive Recreation Program strives to provide a comfortable, inviting, educational, and social environment where participants can learn and interact with others. ADAPTIVE YOGA Class will include breathing exercises for calming and learning yoga poses to improve coordination, balance, and focusing skills. MOVIE STAR CAMP Your EMMY™ or OSCAR™ award awaits! Experience the fun of starring in a movie! Students in our EMMY class (Grades 2-6) and OSCAR class (Grades 7 and up) will learn the art of on-camera acting, improvisational acting, and script-writing while starring in a short, professionally-produced movie. Developed by a former Disney and Nickelodeon producer, the curriculum this summer will focus on encouraging campers to uncover their character's motivation while identifying their goals in each scene. In addition, the OSCAR class will be given an opportunity to write, storyboard, and direct their own short movies. HEAD OVER HEELS GYMNASTICS This class is geared towards the young gymnast that would like to learn basic floor gymnastics such as forward & straddle rolls and how to walk on a balance beam. MARTIAL ARTS SANCHIN-RYU KARATE Sanchin-Ryu is an artistic form of self-defense designed in a way so that size and strength, age and athletic ability aren’t factors in defending one’s self. RIPARIAN PRESERVE

As one of the largest and most popular wildlife preserves in Gilbert, Arizona, The Riparian at Water Ranch features hiking and equestrian trails open to the community. The preserve provides a great opportunity for wildlife and bird watching considered the premier bird watching facility in the Phoenix metro region. Close to 250 species of birds have been sighted and many people come from different states and countries to see the beautiful and sometimes rare birds. The park boasts covered picnic areas, fishing, a dinosaur dig site and campsites that can be reserved for a desert getaway.

SENSORY PLAY AND STORY TIME Sensory play and Storytime welcomes all types of learners and is especially good for wigglers 1 - 5 years old who have trouble in regular storytime. Play time follows a shortened version of storytime where the library will provide puppets, manipulatives, and dramatic play activities for 20-25 minutes of intentional play which encourages early literacy skills! This playtime provides the necessary bonding with your child as well as social time for your child with their peers. Tickets will be handed out 15 minutes prior on a first come first served basis to the first 15 kids and their caregivers. THE CUDDLE BUNCH

Fridays are for STEAM! Today you are invited to the CatapultCapades! Join us to design and create your very own catapult while learning about simple machines, forces, levers, fulcrums and other simple machine concepts. Interact with some cuddly puppies today brought in by the Arizona Humane Society! We will read a fun story and do a song or two and briefly go over how to socialize with dogs. The puppies will be here between 1:30-2:30 and each participant will get some time to pet and play with these sweet animals. Recommended for kids 5-7 but all ages are welcome. There will be staff on hand to ensure the safety of the animals and children. Tickets will be distributed starting at 1pm on a first come first served basis- this is not a regular storytime so seating is limited to 40 people total. Paws to Read pairs Delta-registered therapy animals and their handlers with young readers. Warm, brown eyes and happy grins make all the difference to children's reading experiences resulting in an increase in reading levels and word recognition, and a higher desire to read and write. The animals listen and don't tease, laugh, or judge the children. Plus, the animals love to be read to! Sign up for a therapy animal will begin at 10 a.m. for a 15-minute time slot between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Which animal the child will read to will be on a first-come, first-served basis the day of the program.
