New Book Release Bishop Bob Tacky's new book "Affliction versus Deliverance" is a must read for everyone who desires to walk in victory. This book is a compilation of personal studies and experiences on how Satan afflicts the child of God and how God triumphs and has victory over the works of the enemy. This book empowers a believer with knowledge and an awareness of strategies of the enemy, how to overcome them and experience permanent change. The book helps identify if the believer is afflicted, the nature of affliction, curses, weapons of the enemy and spiritual warfare in great depth. The book affirms that the cause of affliction does not matter, nor its source. But if the child of God acknowledges and trusts in God, He will command deliverances and will grant double blessings for the afflictions they have experienced.

GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM THE HIGH COMMISSIONER-DESIGNATE OF GHANA TO CANADA, H.E SAMUEL VALIS-AKYIANU ON THE OCCASION OF 12TH ANNUAL GHANAIAN – CANADIAN ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS/DINNER HELD IN TORONTO ON 23RD SEPTEMBER, 2012 Mr. Chairman, Distinguished Guests, Award-Winners, Fellow Compatriots, Ladies And Gentlemen, Permit me to begin my message by conveying to you all warm and fraternal greetings from the President of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. The President has asked me to thank you profusely for the wonderful show of love and patriotism during the unfortunate passing of the former President of Ghana, His Excellency Professor John Evans Atta Mills. The President was deeply heartened by the impressive patronage from Ghanaian communities across Canada in the funeral and memorial service organised in honour of the late President. Distinguished compatriots, my heart was filled with enormous delight when I learnt of the existence of this initiative to honour our compatriots who have excelled in various fields of endeavour. Let me commend the organisers for their resourcefulness in creating this laudable and forward-looking venture. I have no doubt that this annual event, since its inception in the year 2000, has profoundly inspired many of our compatriots to strive for excellence in their service to the community. To this year’s award winners, accept my warm and heartfelt congratulations for distinguishing yourselves so well to merit the honour being bestowed on you. I urge you not to rest on your oars but be motivated by these awards to achieve even greater heights of quality and excellence in your chosen fields. Your remarkable achievements have set you apart as worthy ambassadors, and I trust that your exemplary qualities will serve as an inspiration to the youth in the community who represent our future. I also wish to use this occasion to remind you of the upcoming general elections in Ghana. Our country has earned an enviable reputation in Africa and indeed the world at large for her commitment to free, fair and orderly elections and we all have a duty in ensuring that this reputation is solidly protected. Our Government led by President John Mahama is ready to offer all the necessary support to Ghana’s Electoral Commission to ensure that it has the needed logistics to organise the polls without any let or hindrance. On your part, may I urge you not only to pray for peaceful elections but to prevail on your friends and other relations back home to refrain from any act or conduct which will jeopardise the peace and stability Ghana has enjoyed since the country’s democracy was restored a couple of decades ago. Ghana is our only home, and it is incumbent on all her well-meaning sons and daughters to guard against any situation that could plunge the nation into violence and lawlessness during the elections. Ladies and Gentlemen, My Fellow Compatriots, may I use the opportunity of my first trip to the Greater Toronto Area since my assumption of duty, to call on the entire Ghanaian community in Canada to partner with the High Commission in our collective efforts to pursue programmes aimed at promoting the advancement of Ghana. We appreciate the role Ghanaians abroad have played over the years in accelerating our country’s development. While a lot has been achieved with your remittances and other forms of support, there is still more to be done in eradicating the myriad of challenges which continue to inhibit Ghana’s economic progress. As the High Commissioner, I assure you that my staff and I remain open to any useful initiatives and ideas which have the objective of helping to move our country forward. Our prime mandate is to promote the interest of Ghana, and I am urging you all, irrespective of your ethnic, religious or educational background, to join hands with us in pursuing that noble agenda. To conclude my message, I wish to thank the organisers of this function for inviting me to share in this memorable event. I entreat you all to remain united in the midst of the diverse social groupings which have characterised the community in Toronto. You should always remember that one of the cardinal hallmarks of any progressive community is unity in diversity. I thank you for your gracious attention. May God bless us all.

Welcome address by Emmanuel Ayiku, Publisher/Editor, The Ghanaian News & Chair, Ghanaian-Canadian Achievements Awards Committee Welcome address by Emmanuel Ayiku, Publisher/Editor, The Ghanaian News It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending this evening’s Ghanaian-Canadian Achievement Awards Gala. This is the 12th anniversary of this event. We have been consistently guided by the fact that the numerous men and women and youth in our community who are excelling in various aspects of Canadian society in our own community need to be showcased and officially recognized. We all recognize the fact that excellence comes in many forms and knows no boundaries, of race, age, belief or perception. Humanity is capable of great things and everyday we are all amazed to see the lengths to which people will go to achieve their dreams, to better themselves and others and to make positive impacts in their communities and the world around them. It is fitting that so many wonderful and special people have gathered here this evening to honour this remarkable group of individuals from our community. The recipients of this prestigious award have demonstrated a commitment to excellence that serves a wonderful example for all Canadians and especially Ghanaian Cana-

dians. It is regrettable at times to note that apathy reigns among certain quarters of our community. There are some who always sit on the fence when it comes to community involvement. I need not overemphasize the fact our community will grow stronger through our collective efforts. It is our constant hope that this program will also bridge the gap and stir up the energy of those among us that show constant inactivity or apathy to community and national events. It should also encourage the active hardworking contributing members of our community in Canada to continue to give more of themselves. Those receiving awards to night deserve special congratulations. Through your fine leadership and examples you have become role models for our young people and an inspiration to all Ghanaian Canadians. On behalf of the Ghanaian News, I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to the Awards Planning and selection committee and to all our sponsors without whose contribution this event would have been impossible to organize. To the large members of volunteers spread across the country we say a big thank you for your input. To all our invited guests, friends and well-wishers in the larger Canadian society, we extend a warm gratitude to you and hope you will carry with you warm memories that you were part of the celebrations honouring our local heroes and talents. Have a good evening.

CONNECTING PATHS CANADA COMMUNITY SERVICE

Connecting Paths Canada (CPC) was founded in 2008 by a group of young Ghanaian Canadian professionals due to the multitude of gang violence, low literacy and education, and lack of empowerment witnessed amongst the Ghanaian Canadian youth. CPC has currently established four active programs: Adult Soccer League, Ready to Learn Tutoring Program, Youth Soccer Camp, and Empowerment Conference. CPC implemented the Ghanaian Canadian Soccer League (GCSL) in the summer of 2009 as a means to engage the community. Since its inception, the league has grown to 6 teams including some of the community church youth teams. In 2009, CPC collaborated with Toronto District School Board (TDSB) New Comers Service for Youth and the Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Service (TARVIS) and organized a one-day soccer camp for youth and an All-Star soccer game against Toronto Police’s 39 Division to raise awareness to gang violence. In 2010 CPC initiated Ready-To-Learn, a free after school tutoring program for Ghanaian-Canadian youth in Brampton and later established another branch in Toronto. These two program locations provide homework help, tutoring and mentorship services for about 40 youths in the community twice a week during the academic year. CPC has also introduced an Empowerment Conference. The Empowerment Conference offers Ghanaian Canadians the opportunity to connect and network with professionals from different industries across the GTA.
