WELCOME

Dear Readers, ater inspires, stimulates the imagination, activates our emotions and expands our senses. For most people, living close to this element is an auspicious prospect. This is why, all around the world, waterfront residential properties are among the most sought after. Those who do not have the opportunity to own such real estate in their immediate vicinity – because naturally, their supply is limited – often turn their lifelong dream into reality by acquiring a second home on an island, on the shores of a lake or by the ocean. They do not only secure an unrivaled sense of wellbeing, but also the stable property value of a safe investment. Villas with direct access to a lake, apartments with an unobstructed view of a river and houses on the seafront regularly fetch the highest prices. This is also demonstrated by the rankings of the world’s most expensive residential areas. In numerous locations, residential real estate with a direct view of the water can fetch double the prices that “second row” properties without a view of the water are able to command. In the metropolises, formerly derelict harbors and industrial areas create the potential for new residential areas on the waterfront. Ambitious urban development projects such as London’s Docklands, Hamburg’s HafenCity, and New York’s Chelsea neighborhood quickly establish themselves as new top locations. Many of the most expensive real estate in Europe is located on the French Riviera and in Sardinia. In North America, the most expensive real estate can be found in Palm Beach or on Long Island. In these locations, the concept of “living with, and on the water” develops its maximum appeal, because all these developments have unique views onto bodies of water. Maybe this deeply felt passion for water is rooted in our longing for the primordial. After all, life originated in the water and has evolved on land for millions of years. This attraction will, therefore, continue to create a large demand for residential real estate with a link to water. So, we will continue to hear about extraordinary pieces of real estate on the water, which change hands for new record p rices. In

WELCOME

Starting out … It is always exciting when fascinating personalities reminisce about the beginning of their careers. “At the age of 13, I suddenly realized that I really enjoy working with wood,” says Rémi Tessier, who is known today as one of the busiest interior designers specialized in superyachts. Nevertheless, he has not forgotten his very early days as a young carpenter traveling across France in search of work. The island of Soneva Fushi in the Maldives not only marks the start of the love story of Eva and Sonu Shivdasani, but also the foundation of the couple’s business history. The two subsequently started the Six Senses company, with vacation spots focusing on intelligent luxury and a softer kind of tourism. The Seagram Building in Manhattan is a legendary skyscraper. With its height of roughly 157 meters, it has been towering above New York City’s Park Avenue since 1958. Lesser known is the fact that it was a woman who developed the project: Phyllis Lambert was only 27 when she commissioned the design by architects Mies van der Rohe and Philip Johnson. The townhouse by Paul Rudolph, on the other hand, witnessed the comings and goings of many of the iconic figures of the 1970s before becoming Gunter Sachs’s Manhattan residence. Its owner back then, the renowned U.S. designer Halston, made his spectacular home party central for some of the most glamorous figures of the disco era like Andy Warhol, Steve Rubel and Diane von Fürstenberg. Probably the only private residence in New York with its own nickname - “101” in reference to its address. We hope you enjoy the new GG!

PS: Rémi Tessier’s wife Carole not only contributes to his interior designs, she also recently launched her first collection of embroidered handbags (for more information visit preciously.fr). PPS. The rose gold bracelet from Tiffany & Co’s new “T” collection is currently my absolute favorite piece of jewelry.

THANK YOU CONTRIBUTORS

The globetrotter

The style expert

TINA SCHNEIDER  Tina Schneider has been an interior design and travel journalist for over ten years. Until recently, she considered bedrooms the inner sanctum of a home. But during a conversation with THG boss Michel Gosse for GG (page 148), she realized that bathroom fittings reveal more about people than their choice of bed linen …

IVÁN MERELO  Born in Valencia, Iván Merelo spent his teenage years in the French Pyrenees, and ended up in northern Germany five years ago. Most recently, the 34-year-old has been reinforcing GG’s design team. His hobbies mostly take place outdoors: photography, cycling, hiking and canoeing trips, as well as kite surfing. He often takes vacations in Corsica, but is planning a trip to New Zealand in 2015.

Architecture as art

TODD EBERLE  No other photographer is as adept as Todd Eberle at turning modern architecture into art, with the aid of his cropped and abstract images. In this edition of GG, you can enjoy his photos of the famous Seagram Building on Park Avenue in New York (page 42.)

The wordsmith

GLENN O’BRIEN  He wasn’t just there, he was part of it: in the 1970s, journalist Glenn O’Brien wrote for Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine, was friends with Basquiat, went out with Grace Jones and was a regular at the legendary Studio 54. You can find his story about Halston House in NYC starting on page 58.

TREVOR BODDY  The Canadian journalist and critic writes for all the big international architecture magazines. For GG, he met with Phyllis Lambert, who commissioned Mies van der Rohe to design the Seagram Building in 1954 (p. 42).

The cruise expert  FRANK SISTENICH  For more than 15 years, Frank Sistenich has been reporting from aboard the world’s ships, and from its oceans. Recently, he published an illustrated book on expedition cruises. The motto of this Berlin resident is: “When you meet someone who has lost their smile, give them yours.”

PHILIPPE RUMMENS & FRÉDÉRIC VAN BLERK  Philippe Rummens and Frédéric Van Blerk manage four Engel & Völkers shops in Antwerp and can look back on more than 20 years of experience in real estate marketing. At the moment, they have an extraordinary building on their books: a superbly preserved city palace, erected on Arthur Goemaerelei street in 1905.

High-end NYC

LESLIE HIRSCH & HOWARD MORREL  The two brokers are focused on the Manhattan real estate market and have been managing the E&V office on Park Avenue since 2014. They have an iconic building on offer, featured in the “For Sale” section (starting on page 58): Halston House saw fashion designer Halston party there with his Studio 54 pals. More recently, it was one of Gunter Sachs’s homes.

Let’s go on Board …

The word “cruise” still brings to mind the legendary transatlantic crossings of yore. But the current boom in sea voyages has given rise to an abundance of cruises that offer a whole lot more: Hapag Lloyd, for instance, sends the Europa 2 out to sea with a cargo of art by Gerhard Richter and Damien Hirst, and an on-board art expert takes passengers through the floating gallery. Whether it’s expeditions to the Arctic or Antarctic, or river trips along the Mekong, Nile or Amazon rivers – today’s cruises hold a brand-new fascination for travelers.

s the African saying goes  when

God created the world he gave Europeans the clock and Africans the time. Here where lions roam the steppe landscape and elephants graze sedately, life really does in fact have a completely different rhythm. We are taking you on a journey destined to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The private jet ALBERT BALLIN, a Boeing 737-700, named after the former Hapag General Director, we whisk you off to breathtaking places including the Serengeti, the Victoria Falls and Okavango Delta, and to Cape Town. The expedition begins in Zurich. The travel party, with a maximum of 40 passengers, will convene in the Dolder Grand, a sumptuous hotel that even boasts its own art collection and an award-winning spa. The next day, the first flight will leave, destined for Uganda. You will reside in The Lake Victoria Serena Resort, not far from the im-

mense expanses of Lake Victoria. Watch elephants and antilope roam across the savannah, and giraffes grazing, all from your Jeep. Then board a boat and experience the awe-inspiring waterfalls, hippos, crocodiles and a wide variety of different water bird species. Venturing further you reach the mighty Victoria Falls, which David Livingstone called the most beautiful of Africa’s natural wonders he had seen anywhere on the continent. The cloud of spray, soaring up to 300 metres in the air, and its sheer breadth of 1,700 metres – gives this spectacle almost unimaginable dimensions. Whether you take an optional tour or a helicopter flight for a bird’s eye view – there are plenty of opportunites to marvel at the beauty of the Victoria Falls. The next stop is Tanzania, where the world-famous Serengeti National Park stretches out as far as the horizon, and giant herds of animals traverse the ter-

rain. The UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site is home to more than 1.5 million animals, including zebras, gnus, gazelles, elephants, lions and leopards. The journey then leads to Namibia, and the Namib-Naukluft National Park, which you can explore from above on a balloon ride. Taking a detour via Cape Town and the Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta in the world and one of the most primeval paradises in the animal kingdom, your jet will fly you to Mahé, one of a total of 115 islands in the Seychelles. There in the Maia Luxury Resort & Soa, set on one of the finest private beaches and affording all conceivable luxuries, you can relax in style before embarking on your flight back to Zurich. Travel dates: 14.4.–1.5.2016, trip duration: 18 days, trip number: HKF 1603, maximum party of 40. Discover more at: www.hl-kreuzfahrten.de/privatjet/ reisen-2016/

PLAYGROUND ART & DESIGN

A Stiff Breeze Ahead Have we managed to net some beautiful things for you! A delicacy from the world of fashion, a bouncing aquatic toy, high-heeled fins and wellness fountains in Paris … LUXURIOUS TREAT Statement pieces are so yesterday. These days you need more than a large piece of jewelry to turn heads: like the low-calorie “Caviar Ring” by Alison Lou. Not only is it decadently beautiful (made of 14-karat yellow gold and two-tone enamel), it also has a secret hidden inside: a small spoonful of black diamonds. Alison Chemla, creative director and designer at Alison Lou, is well known for producing unusual fine jewelry which playfully combines boldness and chic. The “Caviar Ring” is part of her “Decadence Collection” for spring/summer 2015. PS: On request, this stylish ring is also available in silver. Alison Lou, approx. € 5,500. CAPITAL SPA Audrey Hepburn once said: “Paris is always a good idea.” So, take a deep breath, book a flight and enjoy your chance to get away from it all at The Peninsula Paris hotel. Its exquisite, 1,800-s quare meter spa area boasts an indoor pool and a floor-to-ceiling waterfall. Floating on your back in the water is always invigorating!

GOLF ISLAND Water is usually the bane of most golfers: land your ball in a water hazard and you get stung with a penalty. Not so with “Pool Golf,” a great hot-weather game in which you and your equipment are allowed, nay encouraged, to get wet. The set consists of a playing platform, a fastener, a golf mat and 12 balls. Conleys, € 299.

A WHALE OF A TIME Innespace Productions has added an audacious new toy to their “Seabreacher” fleet: a killer whale. The vessel has the same dimensions as a real orca, can dive into and leap up from the ocean, reach speeds of up to 55 km/h, and has room for two passengers.

STYLISH FINS The good news is: This is art, rather than the latest fashion according to Manolo Blahnik! The “High Tide Heels” are the creation of Belgian artist Paul Schietekat, who crafted them in 2006 for an exhibition. Unfortunately – or should that be fortunately – these flippers cannot be worn and are not for sale …

ugs are experiencing a renaissance. Wooden and stone floors might be very attractive

aesthetically, but they don’t automatically make a home particularly homely. A carpet on the other hand can be a wonderful way of introducing structure to any room: a carpet is laid on the floor, on this carpet stands a sofa, next to the sofa a side table and on it a lamp. It acts like an island in the room. There are many different ways of applying this principle of adapting a carpet to fit an interior. Ulrike Broermann, owner of the Düsseldorf-based company CAP, combines classical elements found in oriental carpets with contemporary and minimalist influences in her designs. The philosophy behind the motif plays a key role for the interior designer, and one thing is also clear: a carpet is slow-growing. Row by row and centimetre for centimetre, meaning the pattern emerges gradually like the printed page from an inkjet printer. CAP carpets are made of 100% natural materials, 80% cotton and 20% pure wool. There is an anti-slip layer on the rear side. The carpets, as robust as they are striking, are produced in nine different sizes in Belgium. This “Made in Europe” pledge guarantees short delivery times and quality of the highest standard. sounds made by the fire and the metal.” Jeremy Wintrebert takes the art of glassblowing to its limits. Apart from creating decorative objects – among others, for London’s Gallery Fumi and the Victoria and Albert Museum – he is currently working on a table whose white marble top will be resting on three handblown, black table legs. But Wintrebert’s next challenge is already just around the corner: “I am going to try to create long UA benches made of glass.”

I fell onto a pile of broken glass,” remembers Jeremy Wintrebert. “Maybe that is why I am so obsessed with molten glass. It is hot, but at least you cannot cut yourself on it…” Born in Paris and raised in Ivory Coast, Gabon, Cameroon, Seattle and San Francisco, today the 35-year-old once again calls Paris his home. The cosmopolitan artist is constantly traveling across Europe in order to work with the best glass manufacturers. The material and the creative process provide the autodidact with pure inspiration: “I never feel more creative than when I’m shaping the hot glass hanging from the end of the glassblower’s pipe. That’s when I forget everything around me and notice nothing but the

It almost seems as though the glass used to make “Dark Matter” is still in a liquid state. There are only six copies of this vase (height: 46 cm).

Girls, girls, girls ...

Surely it helps that Rémi Tessier is surrounded daily by six girls. His wife, Carole, and his five daughters may be the reason why this famous interior designer is so highly regarded for his sensitivity by high-end clients. Meet Phyllis Lambert, the visionary and driving force behind the Seagram Building, one of the world’s most illustrious skyscrapers, and Eva Shivdasani, who along with her husband, Sonu, opened the exclusive Soneva Fushi Resort on the Maldives.

A passionate collector: when you step into his home you see immediately why Tessier enjoys working with clients who also collect art.

can be attributed to the fact that Rémi Tessier has five daughters, a quality that is essential for his job as a designer: sensitivity. “The ability to put myself in my clients’ shoes, to understand what they want to wake up to, and into what kind of world they would like me to transport them – that is always the biggest challenge,” explains the French interior designer, whose unwavering instinct and passion for his craft and for contemporary art have won over some of the wealthiest entrepreneurs from Europe, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. Dark wood, often polished to a high gloss; white sofas that appear light enough to float but into which you can imagine nothing better than to sink, all married to gleaming chrome – this is Rémi Tessier’s signature trademark. “Designing someone’s home, but even more so the interior of a yacht, is an enormously private matter, and I get to know my clients extremely well in the process. They all belong to the same ‘club’ and know each other well. Exclusive design is even written into my contract, and doing the same work for one person that I did for someone else would be an unforgiveable mistake!,” explains Tessier, who has just finished several private homes in London and whose primary claim to fame is doing the glamorous interiors of superyachts. is Paris studio, which employs 15 people and is within walking distance of the Champs-Élysées, is currently one of the top addresses for interior design. highly discreet projects just one story above the Paris gallery belonging to legendary U.S. gallerist Larry Gagosian. His clients include famous internet billionaires as well as America’s Cup winners – although he would never, as a matter of principle, divulge their names. Just one of many unspoken rules that Tessier’s clients admire about him. It is also a prerequisite for a good contact to eventually become a friendship and form the basis from which further projects can develop. “You might be surprised to hear this, but loyalty and reliability are very important and highly appreciated in those circles. In fact, I once turned down a major project because my new client was in a dispute with someone for whom I had already completed several projects and who I truly admire. It’s very important to demonstrate your integrity, and in the end, relationships are more important than the money or the business. Making the decision to turn down the job wasn’t easy, but ultimately, it was the right thing to do. It even gained me the respect of both parties. Three years later, I was contacted again, and since the conflict had been laid to rest, I was able to do the interior of the client’s 80-meter motoryacht without any misgivings.” etermined and very talented, someone who knows exactly what he wants – this is how Tessier is regarded in the yachting world. A strong personality. His unusual career path certainly played a major role in forming his character. “I knew when I was 13 years old that what I wanted to do was work with wood,” says Tessier. Although he was born in Paris, he grew up as the youngest of five children in St. Etienne in eastern central France. One day, when he had just turned 15, he announced to his parents (his father was an enthusiastic painter) that he would be leaving

RÉMI TESSIER’S LATEST COMMISSION

For “Grace E,” Tessier has just been awarded a Best Interior Design prize at the Monaco Yacht Show. The 73-meter Picchiotti motor yacht with cabins for twelve guests and a 22-member crew was completed by Perini Navi in 2014. The typical shell chairs and large, comfortable sofas both recognizably bear the famous Tessier signature.

home to join the “Compagnons du Devoir,” an association of tradesmen and artisans. For seven years the young Rémi traveled through France with the organization that dates back to the Middle Ages, learning everything about the cabinetmaking trade. “There came a time when I realized that I didn’t want to do this my whole life and I needed to make a change in order to move forward. I had only a single month’s wages in my pocket and absolutely no contacts. When I knocked on the fancy studio doors they looked at my dirty hands, saw that I hadn’t had the right schooling and had no portfolio, and turned me away.” Having nowhere to go he turned to the street and approached small shop owners for work. “I got my first commission when I promised the owner of a flower shop that I could make it look much larger by simply hanging mirrors everywhere. That’s how I earned my first fee.” hrough friends, Tessier eventually heard about a bigger job in southern France, where they were looking for someone to put together a promotion for a new residential project. “I traveled to Juan-les-Pins and was told that if I could deliver within three weeks the job would be mine!” News of the dedicated young man named Rémi Tessier spread so quickly that he was soon able to set up a studio in Lyon, employ 15 people and within the first five years of the business, take on numerous commercial projects in Lyon, Geneva and Saint-Tropez, as well as his first orders from private customers. “I immediately found that much more interesting because I prefer to talk to private people rather than to marketing strategists. This is probably because I always put so much of myself into my projects and let my instincts

T

show me the way forward. I have to get a feeling for a project and a person, and the extent to which we understand each other.” And how exactly did he make the significant leap from residential interiors to those of superyachts? “One of my clients, for whom I had previously designed a house in Geneva, wanted to build a yacht in 1999. He was actually playing with the idea of getting a big-name designer involved. But one day he knocked on my door although I had never before worked on a yacht, asked me to build him one and I went for the challenge. It wasn’t easy! Perini Navi had never collaborated with an external designer. I learned an incredible amount on that project and got so involved in the various processes that I basically started managing the entire thing. At first, they weren’t very happy about this at Perini but when the yacht Squall was finally completed, they absolutely loved her. And for myself, I discovered that this type of work drew on all the strengths and skills that I had developed over the years. Offering clients full service from beginning to end is one of our greatest strengths. In fact, it is something our clients are addicted to!” émi Tessier has designed more than 20 boats over the last 14 years, and he is currently working on his biggest project to date. “It’s a 170-meter motor yacht. I’m doing both the interior and the exterior for a client from the Middle East. When he first contacted me, he asked me to send him my portfolio. ‘I’m sorry,’ I told him, ‘I prefer to meet you in person.’” After a 10-minute presentation he asked me if I would stay for dinner. I call myself an artisan designer and I am very fond of that term. I still do very many things myself, and handle each project personally as if it were my own.” MC

Welcome to Soneva Fushi, an island that truly makes you feel as if Robinson Crusoe has just left.

The story of Soneva Fushi reads like a fairy tale: A romantic young Indian, Sonu Shivdasani (now CEO of the Soneva Group), falls in love with a beautiful Swedish model, Eva. While spending their first holiday together on their favorite island in the Baa Atoll they dream up a vision of intelligent luxury, naming it after a marriage of their first names (Sonu and Eva). This vision becomes reality in the Soneva Fushi Resort on Kunfunadhoo Island, which now comprises 55 villas. 1.4 kilometers long and 400 meters wide, Kunfunadhoo is one of the largest islands in the Maldives, and walking around it takes roughly one hour. Guests reside in bungalows ranging in size from 48 to 190 square meters, all of which are furnished with natural materials.

They do still exist, those houses with an extraordinary aura. The names of former owners and guests who passed in and out conjure up scenes in the mind’s eye filled with glamour, exuberance and spectacle. The so-called Halston House or “101” in New York City is a world of its own: Paul Rudolph designed the townhouse in steel and glass, Halston threw legendary parties here with his entourage from Studio 54, before it finally became home to Gunter Sachs.

Fondation Louis Vuitton museum in the middle of the city’s Bois de Boulogne park. French President François Hollande formally opened the impressive building made of concrete, glass and wood, which is one of the very few private museums in France. The Fondation Louis Vuitton museum is the result of a collaboration between Canadian star architect Frank Gehry and Bernard Arnault, the passionate art collector and chairman of the Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) luxury goods group. With this project, Arnault has turned one of his dreams into

reality. The idea was to create a cultural center which would be more than just a permanent home for Arnault’s personal art collection. Rather, it is envisaged that the building will also showcase temporary exhibitions of modern art, and will be used as a concert venue. After the opening ceremony the international guests of the Fondation Louis Vuitton were invited to experience the illumination of the building, conceived by French lighting designer Hervé D escottes, and to enjoy a performance by opera singer Natalie Dessay. New York’s media VIPs celebrated the final showing of “Pilgrimage,” an Annie Leibovitz exhibition at the New York Historical Society.

S

he is one of the most important contemporary photographers:

Annie Leibovitz had Sting covered entirely in mud before making him do yoga in a desert. She photographed John Lennon five hours before he was assassinated, and snapped a heavily pregnant, nude Demi Moore. In short, there is hardly a celebrity who has not been in front of her camera. Her show “Pilgrimage” is a totally different kind of exhibition: there are no faces to be seen. Starting at cult geographical locations like Niagara Falls, Leibovitz takes the viewer to places of literature, painting, pop culture, and sites of intellectual and political history. Her use of objects which belonged to Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud, Elvis Presley and Abraham Lincoln, allows her to create an extensive narrative arc. New York was the final leg of this traveling exhibition, which had been organized for the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

The Beauty Book Kenneth Willardt, teNeues, € 98

For Kenneth Willardt, beauty is far more than just a word – it is the basis for his work. The beauty and fashion photographer from Denmark is no stranger to the world of beauty, either. This 304-page volume takes us on a tour of glittering eyes, the alluring Lara Stone and uncontrived nude photographs. Paging through, you cannot help but muse on the following words from the foreword: “Beauty (...) is the instrument of seduction. It is (…) out there to be seen, touched, smelled, and ultimately desired.”

Equine Moments

There’s something meditative about watching horses, and this book by German photographer Ruth Marcus is a true gift to those who do not happen to live near a paddock. The “horse artist,” as she is known, perceptively captures the aura and anatomy of her powerful subjects. The result is a 160-page volume of black-and-white photographs of equine personalities that you could pore over for hours.

Filip Dujardin, Hatje Cantz, approx. € 40

Humorous & inventive – that sums up Fictions. In this book, photographer Filip Dujardin lends the architecture of his home town, Ghent, a new reality with photo montages that are guaranteed to make you smile: highway overpasses supported by magical pillars, impossible feats of engineering and suburban houses built beside giant boulders. Wait, what’s that pool doing on the beach? Superb!

Men

The selection includes coffee roaster & horse lover Albert Darboven, entrepreneur & artist Claus Hipp, musician Peter Maffay, ballet director John Neumeier, real estate mogul & polo player Christian Völkers and entrepreneur & designer Rolf Sachs. far back off Park Avenue, with a raised plaza covered in travertine open to the public 24 hours a day, was revolutionary. She refers to a 1959 air photo, saying “you can hardly find it there, it is so tiny, but in a street-side view, Seagram changes the street.” One of her profession’s top honors, Phyllis Lambert was awarded the Golden Lion by the 2014 Venice Biennale’s curator Rem Koolhaas. His award statement said simply and accurately “Architects make architecture; Phyllis Lambert makes architects.” It is not to diminish Mies’ achievement at Seagram to admit the role played by Phyllis Lambert and others. Just the opposite, only o set the tower

a hungry, confident mind could deal with the force of her personality and ideas. Seagram rose above the level of so many other buildings produced by Mies’ Chicago office precisely because of this learned dialogue between architect and architecturally-engaged client. In the end, we do not need to jettison the concept of “starchitect” so much as supplement it with a complimentary sister calling, the “starclient.” Whether at Seagram, Biltmore, Milton Park or her own museum, Phyllis Lambert is a starclient with few equals. We would have a better world if more people of her power and influence copied her, rather than commission the cloned ideas of starchitects. TB

Floating ellipse

S

as the star architect of railway stations, bridges and auditoriums. The Spaniard also recently designed the new main building for the Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland, which looks as elegant as it looks spectacular. The roughly 70-hectare campus just outside the city of Lakeland is located in a landscape featuring a lot of water. Fittingly, Calatrava also sited his sculpture-like design for the “university of the future” in the middle of a lake. From a distance, the new, white, 18,500-square meter building could easily be mistaken for a stadium or an enormous concert hall. Only an aerial view of the gracefully shaped construction reveals that the seemingly circular building is actually a narrow ellipse – which is reminiscent of the shape of an eye. On the inside, seminar rooms, research labs, offices and an auditorium for lectures and conferences are clustered around the building’s central space. The frontage is classic Calatrava: slender metal struts form a curved trellis shaped like palm leaves. This casts fascinating shadows, while its symmetrical perfection is also reflected in the water. The undisputed highlight and hallmark of this feat of engineering is widely considered to be the roof, which soars over the building’s palm leaf structure and has the appearance of a kind of fin or a sail. With the design of this university building, Calatrava, who UA considers architecture the most abstract form of art, has stayed true to himself.
