Georgia confronted Macedonia in the first match of the second stage. Nika Tskitishvili successfully used two penalty throws and made a draw just 16 seconds before the end. Georgian team’s coach Igor Kokoshkov decided to transfer the match to overtime without penalty. Everybody knew that what the Georgians should do was to stop excellently played Bo Makalebi for at least 16 seconds. However, the Georgians failed to do so and Bo scored two-point field goal simultaneously with a final siren. His successful throw sent Macedonia to quarterfinal. Nika Tskitishvili played on the position of center in that match and gathered 20 points and 10 rebounds. He assured the team that his potential could have been used better in the preceded matches. A serious trauma of Giorgi Tsintsadze was another sad event for the Georgian team. Said Giorgi Tsintsadze, “I have not had any problem with my knee, but during the match it turned in such a way that caused rupture of cruciate ligaments of knee. I cannot blame my contender for that because he didn’t hit my knee.”
Quarterfinal lost in the draw-well There is a draw-well with a pot hanging on its bottom in one of the dark rooms in the fortress of the Lithuanian historic town of Trakai. Igor Kokoshkov, chief coach to the Georgian national team, “As any coach I always want to gain more and I think what we have achieved at the Euro-basket was not a maximum of what the Georgian team could show. Somehow or other the Georgian team’s participation in the Euro-basket will be recorded in the history and the debut has happened. Our team has proved that it is a merited member of the basketball elite. However, we have to maintain this place and a hard work is necessary for the right to play at the European championships regularly.
