Given the achieved result it will be very difficult to send the fully staffed team to the london olympic Games. However, several license tournaments are ahead and i’m sure that our wrestlers will fight devotedly,” Kakha Getsadze, President of the Georgian National Federation of Wrestling, said after completion of the world championship held in istanbul 12-14 September. the seven-member Georgian national team coached by Begi Darchia completed the chief tournament of the season (world championship) with a single medal and olympic license. Manuchar tskhadaya (66kg) secured for himself a ticket to the london olympics. the Georgian entrants dropped out of the tournament at the very first stage in the 4 out of 7 weight categories. lasha Gogitadze (55 kg), Vladimer Gegeshidze (84 kg), irakli Kajaya (96kg) and Shota Gogisvanidze (120 kg) were losers in their first duels. Very soon they lost their chance to continue fight in Repechage because none of their contenders passed to the final. Revaz Lashkhi (60kg), effective champion of Europe and Manuchar Kvirkvelia (74 kg), the most titled member of the Georgian team, dropped out of the championship yet at the 1/8 stage. Manuchar tskhadaya (66kg) was the sole member of the Georgian national team who met the istanbul world championship in the best shape. tskhadaya, the best Georgian sportsman in 2009, repeated his two-year-old achievement showed at the world championship in the Danish city of Herning and became twice world silver medalist. On his way to the final Tskhadaya defeated Mohammad Serir (Algeria), Pascal Shtrebel (Switzerland) and beat Europe vice-champion tamash lorintz(Hungary) in a tough three-set duel. Manuchar easily defeated Pedro isaac Nullen Herrera (cuba) 3:0; 3:0 in the quarterfinal and also easily won 4:0; 4:0 the semi-final against Justin Dashaun Lester (USA). However, Manuchar lost 0:1; 0:2 the final and decisive duel with Said Morad Abdvali (iran). on return from istanbul the twice silver medalist commented on his performance. “i’m very happy with gaining the london olympic license. Although a silver medal is quite a good result at the world championship i regret that i have missed the chance to become a champion for the second time. I’ll correct this flaw without fail at the coming world championships.
