The Bulldogs have benefitted from a quick start this season, outscoring their opponents 105-27 in the first quarter. In fact, the Bulldogs outscored their SEC foes 63-20 in the opening period.

Senior Trio & Versatile Guards Hold Line Together

Georgia has a senior-laden offensive line featuring C Ben Jones, LT Cordy Glenn and RT Justin Anderson. A trio of sophomores in Kenarious Gates, Chris Burnette and Dallas Lee have split time at the guards this year. Jones was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for two weeks straight following the Auburn and New Mexico State games. Lee played in the first in the first eight games, but he suffered a broken bone in his right leg against Florida on Oct. 29. He is slated to return in the bowl game. The five starters average a height of 6-4 and a weight of 329. Glenn leads with 49 starts, including the last 46 games. Jones has started 48 games. The most starts for a Bulldog lineman is 50 by Clint Boling (2007-10), who is now playing for the Cincinnati Bengals after graduating from UGA. Fifty starts ranks second in school history.

Backfield In Motion

Due to injuries and suspensions, the Bulldogs have had an array of ball carriers get an opportunity this season. Redshirt freshman Ken Malcome became the fourth different starting tailback for the Bulldogs this season when he got the nod versus #25 Georgia Tech on Nov. 26. Then, Malcome had a team-best 37 yards on five carries against top-ranked LSU in the SEC Championship Game. Georgia had its third different 100-yard rusher of the season in the win over Kentucky. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Harton went for 101 yards on 23 carries (4.4 avg.). Against #24 Auburn, freshman Isaiah Crowell (132 yds.)and junior Carlton Thomas (127 yds.) gave the Bulldogs a pair of 100-yard rushers in the same game for the first time since the 2009 Georgia Tech game. In fact, the duo helped UGA tally 304 yards rushing against the Tigers, which was the most yards on the ground for Georgia since the 2009 Georgia Tech game (339). Crowell has recorded four 100-yard games versus SEC competition this season and been named SEC Freshman of the Week four times. He did not play versus the Yellow Jackets and was in for just three plays against Kentucky the week before due to an ankle injury. Also, junior CB Branden Smith got his third career start at TB (first of 2011) and recorded a 56-yard scoring run in the win over New Mexico State. Versus the Yellow Jackets, he had five carries for 20 yards. Junior Richard Samuel IV, who has started three games in 2011, suffered an ankle injury in the final play of the Florida game that sidelined him for the remainder of the regular season. Against the Gators, Samuel paced Georgia’s offense with 58 yards on seven carries and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. He is expected to play in the bowl game. Can’t Cover Them All The Bulldogs have been attacking the opposition with a wide variety of weapons at receiver. Six players have recorded more than 200 yards receiving and four of those have at least 30 catches. In fact, QB Aaron Murray has thrown touchdowns to 10 different Bulldogs this season. Freshman Malcolm Mitchell is leading the corps with 614 yards on 38 catches and four touchdowns. Mitchell missed three games with a hamstring injury, but returned versus #24 Auburn to snag three receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown. Junior TE and Mackey Award finalist Orson Charles (team-high 44 rec., 572 yds., 5 TDs) and junior FLK Tavarres King (41 rec., 500 yds., team-high 7 TDs) have also been Murray’s top targets this season. Redshirt freshman Michael Bennett scored his fifth TD of the year versus #25 Georgia Tech and has hauled in 31 balls for 316 yards this season. True freshman Chris Conley picked up his second career touchdown versus the Yellow Jackets. He is averaging a team-best 18.0 yards per catch. Junior Marlon Brown has added 14 catches for 228 yards and three scores, including a 121-yard performance at Vanderbilt.
