Sang-Wook Lee, assistant professor of art, recently installed the solo exhibition, “Noodle Noodle” at Emory University’s Visual Arts Gallery. He also presented “Ramen Noodles 2008” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville, Fla.

Ben Scafidi, professor of economics, presented findings at the National Press Club last spring of his new study which gauges the cost of “family fragmentation,” both divorce and unwed childbearing, to U.S. taxpayers.

Mike Martino, associate professor of exercise science, was recognized as Georgia Athletic Training Association’s “Sports Professional of the Year.”

Jeanne Sewell, assistant professor of nursing is author of a new edition of Infomatics and Nursing: Opportunities & Challenges (Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins Publishers).

Karen McElmurray, assistant professor in creative writing, is author of a new novel titled The Motel of the Stars (Sarabande Press, Nov. 2008).

Todd Shiver, interim chair and professor of music, contributed an article to Teaching Music Through Performance in Jazz (GIA, 2008).

Laura Newbern, assistant professor of English and creative writing, was awarded an Editor’s Prize for her work published in Best New Poets 2007.

Charles Ubah, associate professor of government and sociology, has five articles on various aspects of corrections and prison reform accepted for publication by major international criminal justice journals.

Hank Edmondson, professor of government and sociology, was named the co-director of an international conference on Flannery O’Connor at Pontifical University in Rome, Italy. He also has recently directed two Liberty Fund conferences this year on liberty, democracy, and constitution-making. Hedwig Fraunhofer, associate professor of French and German, is author of "Critical Theory and Poststructuralism-A False Antithesis?" in the forthcoming collection on the The Frankfurt School, Cambridge University Scholars. Lee Gillis, professor and chair of psychology, is co-author of "A Five-year Follow-up of a Nationwide Survey of Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Programs," published in the Journal of Experiential Education (August 2008). Richard Green, professor of music, recently had several original compositions commissioned, published and performed. Jude Hirsch, chair and professor of kinesiology, is author of Administrative Practices of Accredited Organizations (Association for Experiential Education Press), which recently was re-published as a new edition. Amy Kelley, assistant professor of mathematics, was selected as one of four professors nationwide to participate in the University of Nebraska IMMERSE program which involves intensive mathematics, mentoring, and research.

Douglas O’Grady, assistant professor of music, recently had several original compositions commissioned, published and performed. Eustace Palmer, professor of English, speech, and journalism, is author of two new books: Knowledge Is More Than Mere Words: A Critical Introduction to Sierra Leonean Literature (Africa World Press, Jan. 2008) and Of War and Women, Oppression and Optimism (Africa World Press, May 2008). Mary Jane Phillips, assistant professor of psychology, is co-author of “The Process of Identity Development as the Parent of a Lesbian or Gay Male,” published in the Journal of LGBT Issues in Counseling (2008).

Deborah Vess, professor of history, geography, and philosophy, received the Boyer Award for her excellence in teaching, learning, and technology. Jennifer Wallach, assistant professor of history, geography, and philosophy, is author of Closer to the Truth than Any Fact: Memoir, Memory, and Jim Crow (UGA Press, July 2008). Veronica Womack, assistant professor of government and sociology, is author of Economic Development in the Black Belt Region (Mercer UP, 2008). She also was selected to the editorial board for Southern Rural Sociology.
