When DeGioia asked Healton of the importance of philanthropy in bridging the distance between the promise and the reality of what modern science can achieve, he said, “Philanthropy is just critical to closing that gap. It has never been more important.” Panelists agreed that ensemble science supported by gifts like the Toulmins’ will save lives for generations to come. The Toulmin gift is the largest gift received by Georgetown University to date. A dinner to celebrate the couple and their creation of the Warwick Evans and Mary Mason Washington Evans Medical Research Endowment followed the panel discussion. ■
