President’s Report 2018 - 2019

Message from the President We conduct a substantial ministry of education

at Geneva College based on a rich heritage, pro Christo et patria. I am pleased to provide this report that highlights accomplishments and updates our status as an institution of Christian higher education for the 2018-19 school year, a year which has produced institutional indicators for future growth and strength. We trust that you will be encouraged by the work of our faculty and students, the status of our student body, and the growth in support for the work of the College. The heart of Geneva College and the driving force of our Christian mission resides in a faculty and staff deeply committed to the Lord Jesus Christ and to serving our students in His name. Nothing in this report can adequately relate the quality of their work against the chaos and confusion that marks the higher education landscape today. Futhermore, Geneva’s core curriculum in Biblical Studies, the Humanities and Political Science, provides a Christian liberal arts foundation that informs a comprehensive biblical

worldview. From this educational ground of faith in Christ, we continue to seek understanding of His works and world in every major subject and professional practice under His word.

A Geneva education equips graduates to lead through faithful service to God and neighbor in a changing world. Christ has called us to live and work in this world, yet to forsake worldliness entirely—a challenge in every generation. Today, Christians face the dual temptations to separatism—isolating ourselves from the world; and accommodation—adapting ourselves to the world. Standing actively for Christ in how we worship, work, build our households and live in our communities involves pressures and opportunities that our students have been created to engage. Over many generations, we have a track record of preparing our students to serve faithfully and fruitfully. If you are reading this report, you have contributed much to Geneva College and may well be considering how you might contribute in the future. Thank you for participating in our ministry of education. We appreciate your partnership and trust that our work together will advance, enrich and secure the heritage entrusted to us as a blessing in Christ for generations yet to come. - Calvin L. Alumnus Leaves $6M to Geneva College

In honor and memory of George Tannehill ’46 and his wife Beverly, Geneva College dedicated the George and Beverly Tannehill Business, Accounting and Sport Management Department to God’s service in a ceremony on September 27, 2019. Pictured are the department faculty and staff.

George Tannehill ‘46 served God, community

and country where ever he was. During his service in the military during World War II, he received nine bronze stars and battle awards in his time as a mechanic in the Army Air Corps. After his service, Tannehill returned to Geneva, graduating in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. His dedication to his profession led to successes in business as an executive at the Koppers Company. He received a Geneva Life “G Alumni Award in 1994 for achievements of service above self and noteworthy efforts on behalf of Geneva, community and nation. George served well during his life, and by way of a planned gift to Geneva College, he and wife Beverly continue to serve well. He valued learning and teaching in all areas of life. Upon his passing

in July 2018 at age 96, he gave one of the most substantial monetary gifts Geneva has ever received, an estimated $6 million, to ensure a continued legacy of service to future generations.
