China Study Program: Shanghai--Nanjing Region Country: China Location: Shanghai--Nanjing Region Campus: Cobleskill Term(s): Summer Language of Instruction: English Program Description: This three-week program provides participants with opportunities to study their disciplines in the context of China's unique characteristics. The program is directed by SUNY Cobleskill and its partner, Shanghai Urban Management College. Participants travel to Shanghai, Nanjing and surrounding areas; they visit museums, parks and historic sites, attend seminars and workshops on Chinese history, culture and language and interact with Chinese college students. Lectures are given by Chinese professors. Students are evaluated through journals and a final paper. Higher Education Administration in China Country: China Location: Shanghai and Beijing Campus: Stony Brook University Term(s): Summer (May 25 – June 8) Language of Instruction: English Program Description: As China’s impact on the global economy expands, so has the influence of its universities. This 15-day study tour examines China’s higher education institutions by visiting five of its leading universities in the major cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing. By combining university information sessions and lectures on Chinese history and educational philosophy with excursions to major cultural attractions, participants will acquire knowledge and an appreciation for the historical and traditional significance of higher education in China while enriching their knowledge of the contemporary Chinese student. Qualified students can earn 3 graduates credits for CEK 560 – Comparative University Systems: Higher Education in China. Program Highlights -Visit five universities, including the 3 premier institutions of Tsinghua U., Peking U. and Nanjing U. -Attend lectures by local professors and administrators about modern Chinese history and the administrative structures of their universities. -Lunch with individual Chinese students at their favorite campus eatery. -Tour major cities of Shanghai, Beijing and Nanjing. -Visit the Great Wall, Forbidden City and other major cultural attractions of China, including six UNESCO World Heritage Sites. -Travel on China’s bullet trains at 190 mph. Graduate Course Offered All students will enroll in CEK 560 – Comparative University Systems: Higher Education in China. Satisfactory completion of the course grants 3 credits towards the Masters in Higher Education Administration (MHEA). China Summer Study: History, Culture and the Arts Country: China Location: Various Campus: SUNY Cortland Term(s): Summer Language of Instruction: English Program Description: Objectives of this program are to provide historical, creative and cultural perspectives of an area of China not often visited. Students will have the opportunity to study and go behind the scenes to witness a part of China that is rapidly changing. Each day students will gather to discuss experiences, share impressions, and record observations. Students will be keeping written journals and recording images on standard and digital film. The focus is to provide an understanding of another culture to a general student population of all disciplines, through an immersion in the history, art, and language of China. No language background is needed as a translator will be present at all times.
