Students take the course Modern China: Chinese Civilization and Society. Students can earn academic credits through lectures, trips and everyday living experiences. They learn about all aspects of life in modern China - from its culture to its business community, from its political philosophy to the ideas of the men and women on the streets. Chinese Business Language and Culture at Fudan University Country: China Location: Shanghai Campus: Binghamton University Term(s): Summer Language of Instruction: Chinese Program Description: This unique summer program offers students hands-on experience in business and marketing research in Shanghai. Shanghai is not only one of the key financial centers of the 21st Century, it also is China’s major urban metropolis, the hub of China’s business, cultural, educational, and entertainment worlds. Fudan University, one of China’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning, has specially designed this six-week program for Binghamton University students. The curriculum includes rigorous courses in Advanced Chinese, Business Chinese, and a variety of Topics courses focusing on areas such as Hot Spots in the Chinese Economy, Chinese Business Strategies, and Business Case Studies, all to be taught in Chinese. While students will have ample contact hours in the classroom, the centerpiece of the program will involve onsite, hands-on experience in off-campus businesses and reallife marketing research. This will allow students to employ both their Chinese language skills and their classroomacquired knowledge of Chinese business and marketing to conduct interviews, collect data, and write research reports, which will be presented to the class at the end of the program. Internship and Chinese Language in Shanghai Country: China Location: Shanghai Campus: Stony Brook University Term(s): Summer Language of Instruction: Chinese and English Program Description: Dates: June 23 - July 19 Program Description As a global city, and the largest in China, Shanghai influences commerce, finance, trade, culture, fashion, research and entertainment not only in China but the world. Shanghai recently successfully hosted the World Expo 2010. Beautiful and modern, it has the reputation as “Paris of the East” and as been described as the "showpiece" of the world's fastest-growing major economy. Students will have the opportunity to complete a business internship while taking Chinese courses at Shanghai Lake Malaren International Convention Center. After short-term training, participants will be placed in various administrative departments working with Chinese staff. This 3-credit course may fulfill General Education requirements (e.g., "Regions Beyond Europe" at UAlbany). Participants live in on-campus dormitories. Field trips and site visits in Beijing, Shanghai and its surrounding areas are included.
