Instructor: Alexandra Risley-Schroeder Explores the diverse array of expanding green career opportunities and the impact of sustainability on existing occupations and industries. Students engage local community members, organizations and employers. Students develop important work finding skills such as resume creation, interviewing and networking.This is a HYBRID class and 62% of class content is delivered online. In-class sessions provide 28% of class content on the following dates: 1/29, 2/5, 2/19, 3/5, 3/26, 4/9, 4/30, and 5/14. Six hours of field trip are also required. Weatherization Crew Chief–NEW!

Applies permaculture principles in the foraging and cultivation of wild fungi. Field activities include collection, identification, and cultivation of fungi for culinary purposes and holistic medicine. Using field guides, students learn to identify and cook safe-to-eat mushrooms and to preserve medicinal fungi. Students acquire cultivation skills for shitake, reishi, and/or oyster mushrooms and understand how to integrate mushroom logs into homescale gardens. This is the credit-free offering of AGR 131.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY Community Energy Solutions REW 385-2: Saturday, 9:00 am-5:00 pm, 1/12 & 1/19, 2 sessions, $169

Instructor: Lynn Benander Explores the fundamental concepts relating to renewable and nonrenewable energy sources with an emphasis on sustainable energy use and conservation. Topics include world energy use and primary energy sources, local energy issues, and an overview of sustainable energy technologies (e.g. solar, photovoltaics, wind, microhydro, fuel cells, biodiesel and others.) Students explore the scientific underpinning of global warming and how consumption of fossil fuels relates to atmospheric change. This is the credit-free offering of SCI 110.
