The team has just three seniors this year but all shared a lot of time as starters last season and bring experience to the team. Senior Carly Gustafson will Coach Peterson be a strong presence

at the net for the Vikings along with junior Lara Harlander, who along with Gustafson, have the capability to lead the team each week in kills. Harlander is also a scrappy defender who will cause fits for opposing offenses all year long, as is sophomore Ann Chenal. Sophomore Brooke Claeys could also be added to the list, as she led the team with eight digs in the team’s season opener against Unity. Junior Makayla Arthurs was the first to record a pair of aces for the Vikings in the opener as well.

With four juniors and several sophomores there will be plenty of opportunity to build essential skills for the future and gain quality varsity experience this season. Despite the Vikings getting off to a 0-2 start, there could be a bright future ahead for the team.

Hanson and Wendy Roberts. Both were on the team last season that went to the state tournament. Hope Tucker and Olivia Tucker practiced with the varsity team last season and will be looked upon to help lead the rest of the team to victory. “Everyone else is new,” said coach Deb Allaman-Johnson, who can’t wait to get the season under way with a set of serious players hungry to win. “As always, it is an honor and privilege to work with outstanding, hardworking, goal-oriented young people. They energize me,” Allaman-Johnson said. Along with a bunch of new faces, there will be a bit of inexperience on the team, and Allaman-Johnson said height could be another weakness, but she still expects this team to have many more strengths, listing “attitude, work ethic, strong academics, positive leaders, solid volleyball skills.” While Grantsburg is picked to be near the top of a much-improved conference, Allaman-Johnson expects “fun challenges
