Festive fashion trends GOSEGO MOTSUMI

F

estive season is all occasions wrapped in one season and it is often hard to decide what to wear as the invites with dress codes for festive attire pour in. We welcome this season with fresh trends that will keep you looking sharp this festive:

Kimonos

The floaty piece of fabric is a fashion favorite. Printed, maxi or cropped, the kimono is the new hot trend this festive season. It can be paired with a pair of

denim shorts at the beach, or paired with ripped jeans/leggings at an outing, it’s the perfect wardrobe staple that pairs well with all types of outfits.

Crop tops

Crop tops (lace, boxy, Aztec and statement crop tops) have been everywhere this season, from the city streets to fashion catalogs. When done right, the crop top is sexy, chic, and sophisticated all at the same time. Wearing a crop top is all about proportion, and to strike a balance one needs to wear a high-waisted skirt or high-

rise jeans on the bottom.

Denim cutoff dungarees

The timeless cutoff dungaree is enjoying a bit of a comeback thanks to being spotted on a range of celebrities and taste makers. The humble overall, it seems, makes for the perfect off-duty outfit, it makes it a great outfit for traveling, hanging out or even partying this festive!

Glitter jelly sandals

The jelly shoe is a ubiquitous summer staple. From the classic chunky gladiator silhouette to the minimalist thong shape, from bold opaque colors to the original clear glitter material. They are great for casual day out, a trip to the beach and looks great with a sun dress and straw hat, or with a jumpsuit and cropped jean jacket.

The block heel

They are the most comfortable heels (without taking the wedges route) for standing for longer periods of time and dancing. Nothing ruins the fun on a night out like the moment your feet start killing you. The block heel comes in different designs and colors that can be matched with a party outfit.

Slogan Tee’s

From political messages and slogans, to attitude-filled comments and selfreferencing, trademark-infringing and clever word-plays. This trend is continuing into summer from the spring season. The slogan tee’s can be best matched with a pair of plain pants, shorts or flared skirts.

Nails

Festive season is party season so be extravagant and add shimmer to your nails with shades of colorful and pastel nail polish. The right selection of nail color can be decided by the outfit one chooses to wear.

French plaits

When it comes to the trending hairstyle the French plaits stay winning as they are a major trend this festive. It is one of those hairstyles that are making a comeback and can be easily maintained and managed during the festive. It allows one to play with proportions of braids at different lengths and styles.

MEN The bucket hat

Even though it is a returning trend set by rapper LL Cool J among others the bucket hat is quite big this festive season. The hat makes much sense not only for its varied designs and colors but to block the harsh sun rays at the beach side or day out. Chinos remain an absolute favorite and are a perennial fashion favorite that’s versatile enough for any occasion more so that they come in various colors.

Acid wash joggers

The coolest way to channel the denim trend, these mid acid wash skinny jogger jeans are the ideal mix of style and comfort and features drawstring waistband, pockets and cuffed hems.

Safety tips for the festive season

If you’re going to a holiday party and plan to indulge an alcoholic drink or two, it is advisable that you do not drive, rather make plans for a safer alternative to get home like getting a designated driver or a cab.

T

he hustle and bustle of shopping, travelling and partying makes this season a time when people are more likely to have accidents than any other time of the year. Being robbed, injured or getting in an accident can happen at any time of the year but with the festive season drawing nearer, extra precautions must be taken, because some accidents are more likely to happen around this time of the year. To help you make this holiday season a safe and happy one, here are some festive season safety tips to consider.

Safety in the home

If you are going away, it is important that you notify your security company and ensure that you supply all the necessary information regarding your other key holders, in case of an emergency. Neighborhood watch is of outmost importance around this time of the year, so involve your neighbours and tell them your holiday plans so that they can keep an eye on your property while you are away. A clear signage indicating that you have security may also help to discourage burglars to enter your home.

As this is the season of festivities, fatality rates caused by drunk driving are likely to be on the increase. With holiday parties and functions to attend, Police statistics have shown that this is the time when most fatalities caused by drunken driving occurs because most people are in a hurry to wrap up their shopping while others hop from one party to another while drinking and driving. If you’re going to a holiday party and plan to indulge an alcoholic drink or two, it is advisable that you do not drive, rather make plans for a safer alternative to get home like getting a designated driver or a cab. It is also important to always have an emergency car kit with you for in case of an emergency. Always put your seat belt on to avoid paying a lot of money on road tickets for not buckling up. This will also protect you and keep you safer if you happen to have an accident on the road.

Personal safety

Beware of scam artists, this is their season so be very careful of who you trust with your money. ATM fraud, whether physical or electronically appears to be gaining momentum so it is important to take precautions to make sure you don’t become victim to this scam. If the ATM is acting strange, move on and use a different one, it could be an innocent technical error but it is better to be safe than sorry. Avoid sharing your personal and financial information with other sources through emails or over the phone, rather go to the bank personally if you need to confirm something about your bank account.
