Welcome to Page Lake Powell

T

he Chamber Page Lake Powell welcomes you to Page, offering a wide range of opportunities to our visitors and our residents. The Chamber has been serving the area since the 1960s. Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast or a business owner, you will find something to fit your needs within our Chamber Directory. With our large volunteer board, The Chamber hosts events year round for the City of Page and all of its members. We organize the 4th of July Parade, Best of Page Banquet, Page Balloon Regatta Vendor Fair and the Parade of Lights - just to name a few of the events we do. We host a monthly mixer for an evening of networking for the members and guests. We also host a vendor fair called Santa’s Layover right before Christmas, proceeds of which support our Community College. We also assist other organizations in projects throughout Page. In 2015, The Chamber began booking tours for our chamber members. With an increase in tourist traffic, this provided both our members and The Chamber with additional revenue. The Chamber is here to provide you with any relocation information you need. We track a host of tourists who are in need of information for a “list of things to do” while visiting Page. We invite you to look through all the information provided in this publication for any goods and services you are interested in. You can also visit our extensive website at www.pagechamber.com or visit us on Facebook under “TheChamberPageLakePowell.” As your Executive Director, I am committed to helping our business community with any needs they may have by networking their business, posting upcoming events and providing updated specials they may have to all of our members through our weekly E-Blast. Whether you are an individual or business owner, we look forward to having you join our Community. PAGE POLICE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OF PAGE POLICE: HIGHEST SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

T

he goal of the Page Police Department is to provide the highest standard of service to the community. The Page Police Department is a progressive and professional agency. Our agency is comprised of 21 sworn law enforcement officers and 12 civilian employees who strive to fight crime in a proficient, proactive manner. Our officers are highly trained and are held to the

highest degree of integrity and honesty. Their compassion shines brightly in their daily patrol work and community involvement. Along with our incredible staff, we collaborate with surrounding law enforcement agencies as partners to ensure the maximum level of service to the community. We have developed educational crime prevention programs with members of the community, for the members of our community.

The PPD Citizens Police Academy, a program designed to teach the functions of police operations, is one example of our department’s community dedication. Graduates of that academy have the opportunity to become members of the PPD Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) in which citizens provide direct assistance to the department with duties such as, traffic control during parades or special events. Volunteers are always welcome.

Through innovative policing partnerships with our community, we are committed to keeping the City of Page a safe and wonderful place to live, work and visit. T

he Annual Best of Page banquet held on May 16, 2015, at the Page Elks Lodge was one of the most successful in recent years, said Judy Franz, Executive Director of The Chamber Page Lake Powell. “We had a large turnout,” said Franz. “One of the best turnouts we‘ve had in several years.” This year’s Best of Page also saw a dramatic increase of people and businesses voting for their favorite businesses, said Franz. “We were inundated with votes, which was great,” said Franz. “It means that people care about our town and the success of its businesses.” The Best of Page awards are voted on by the citizens of Page and awarded to local businesses.

The evening began with dinner and the presentation of the awards, followed by a silent and live auction, and finished with music and dancing that lasted until 1 a.m. One of the highlights of the evening came when The Chamber Board Member Scott Seyler presented Chamber Board PresidentElect Craig Milam with the Humanitarian of the Year award. Milam received the award for his involement with Page youth teams and his work with the Circle of Page and the food pantry. Franz says she and the other members of the Chamber of Commerce look forward to putting on the banquet each year. “Our businesses work so hard, especially during the tourist season, and this is our way of saying, thanks,” said Franz. “It’s nice to give credit where credit is due.”

HEALTHCARE PAGE HOSPITAL Page Hospital is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital that serves Northern Arizona. Built in 1958, the hospital provides a range of medical services that include Emergency Services, Surgery, Medical Imaging, Obstetrics, Cardiopulmonary, Acute Care and Rehabilitation. Our Emergency department is a Level-4 Trauma designated center and works closely with local emergency medical services, the National Park Service, and helicopter transport. PATIENT-CENTERED CARE Page Hospital is the first hospital within Banner Health to join the Planetree Alliance. As a Planetree Affiliate, Page Hospital is a place of physical, mental and spiritual healing and a place where employees strive to care for patients with compassion, dignity and respect. We strongly encourage patients and their families to be our partners in providing medical care. MOBILE HEALTH CLINIC After two years of planning, the new Page Hospital Mobile Clinic is ready to serve not only tourists but the whole community. The mobile clinic will be making stops in the parking lot of WalMart, Safeway and Antelope Point Marina, as well as Colorado City. A complete schedule of the stops by the mobile clinic will be available online at www.bannerhealth.com/pagemobileclinic. The 39-foot mobile clinic has three exam rooms and will be staffed by an advanced practice provider such as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Services available in the clinic include treatment for minor cuts and burns, treatment for colds and flu, testing for minor illnesses such as strep throat, tests for health conditions and certain blood tests and certain vaccinations. The mobile clinic will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day, filling a non-emergent health care void on Sundays in Page. INNOVATIVE FACILITY DESIGN In keeping with the Planetree philosophy, many distractions commonly associated with hospitals have been removed. Medical equipment is kept out of patient view and overhead paging and staff announcements have been replaced with the soothing sounds of soft music. Hospital rooms have couches, refrigerators, access to outdoor patios and gardens, and full-size beds draped in home-like linens. Artwork and décor is inspired by the area’s large

Native American population and the surrounding beauty of the canyons and Lake Powell. Other Native American elements include a weaving loom and a traditional healing Hogan. STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY Banner Health’s systemwide Care Transformation initiative unites the best practices in clinical care with leading-edge technology to provide better, safer and more reliable care to patients. Technology advances include usage of electronic medical records, an intelligent OB program which is a computerized system designed to reduce the complications during labor and delivery, the Medical Imaging PACS system and state-of-the-art medical imaging equipment. Visiting Specialist Services Because of its remote location, Page Hospital offers a program that brings in specialists so patients do not have to travel out of town for services. EDUCATION ASSOCIATION FOR VOCATIONS, CAVIAT: COCONINO INDUSTRY AND TECHNOLOGY

C

AVIAT is distinguishing itself as an innovative leader attuned to workforce needs, working in partnership with business, industry and the community college. The educational opportunities fill an essential niche and create relevance in education for many students seeking careers and/or higher education beyond high school. CAVIAT was established in 2001. It’s funding comes from two sources: state appropriations and secondary property taxes from homeowners in the 5 school districts that comprise CAVIAT. The member school districts include: Flagstaff, Fredonia, Grand Canyon, Page and Williams. It is one of 13 voter approved, joint technological education districts throughout Arizona. Mission Provide students with the opportunity to acquire career related skills and ethics needed to become responsible members of society. CAVIAT will improve and enhance career and technical education by: • Collaborating and coordinating resources • Expanding training experiences • Providing opportunities for students to showcase their accomplishments • Coordinating with regional businesses and industries to meet current and future training needs

CCC:

S

Why consider Career & Technical Education Career and technical education can provide a foundation of skills that enables high school graduates to be gainfully employed— either full-time or while in college. Nearly two-thirds of all high school graduates of career and technical programs enter some form of postsecondary program. Rigorous academic content tied to technical subject matter ensures that these students will be ready for college. The internships and other cooperative work experiences that are a hallmark of technical education are attractive to all students who want to get a head start on a career, whether that career goal is doctor or nurse, automotive technician or computer scientist. Student career organizations for every subject area also help students acquire the employability and leadership skills that will enable them to succeed in the workplace. Tech Prep programs link high school and community college curricula to help students make a smooth transition to postsecondary education and careers. LEADING OUR COMMUNITIES IN LIFELONG LEARNING

tudent success is the heart and purpose of Coconino Community College as shown by the fact that CCC is ranked among the top 50 community colleges in the U.S., according to education website, thebestschools.org, which cites factors such as learning outcomes and student support. CNN Money has ranked CCC as No. 25 in its listing of the best community college values. The College has served residents across 18,000 square miles of Coconino County since 1991 and helped create the region’s skilled workforce, which is improving overall health, safety and the economy in the region. The award-winning CCC2NAU program has become a state and national model for transitioning community college students to a four-year university. The program has served more than 1,700 students, compared to a starting cohort of 15 in 2008. The CCC2NAU program provides an innovative way to smooth a student’s path toward a bachelor’s degree with tailored advisement, institutional collaboration, including access to amenities at NAU like the Cline Library, recreation centers and housing. The college provides affordable tuition and a wide variety of certificates and degrees including career/technical programs with more than 60 certificate programs and two-year associate degrees in various fields including nursing, fire science, law enforcement and business. CCC reaches out to the more rural portions of the County

including Williams, the Grand Canyon, Page/Lake Powell, Fredonia, Tuba City and other remote areas on the Navajo, Hopi and Supai Tribal Lands with instructional sites that offer classes through online, in person and Interactive Television classes to meet the needs of students in these rural and remote areas. Nearly 25 percent of CCC’s student population comprises Native American learners and Community College Week says CCC is among the top colleges in the nation among Native American students earning associate degrees. When CCC first opened its doors, nearly 1,000 students enrolled at the Flagstaff campus in the first semester. Since then, the college has experienced an astounding growth rate and today serves more than 7,500 students per year with two campuses in Flagstaff. CCC maintains instructional sites in Fredonia, Grand Canyon, Page, Tuba City and Williams. Fourth of July Celebration

The Chamber Page Lake Powell will once again host the annual Fourth of July activities. Fourth of July activities in Page kick-off with an annual parade in the morning. The parade route is down Lake Powell Boulevard. The City Park festivities, also sponsored by The Chamber, will commence after the parade and include carnival game booths, free games for children, fireworks for sale, air brush tattoos, cheesecake in a cone, Sonoran hot dogs, and, of course, the opportunity to cool off with a fire hydrant and the Page Fire Department. The City’s annual fireworks kickoff after sundown near the south side of the golf course.

Helping Hands Fall Festival

While many old favorite events like the costume

24 Page Lake Powell Chamber

contest will be returning this year, Helping Hands executive director Cynthia Kokasko says there may just be a few surprises in store for loyal festival goers and newcomers alike at the 17th Annual Fall Festival in October 2016 held in the Page City Park. A big draw is the renowned pumpkin carving contest and pumpkin glow. More than a dozen vendors will be selling arts and crafts throughout the weekend alongside the possibility to snag some mutton stew and mutton sandwiches. “We’ve always aimed for a down-to-earth old-fashioned carnival. We try to never put too many bells and whistles on it, because we mainly want people to just come down with their families and have fun,” said Kokasko. “We also always enjoy showcasing what our guys can do. You can expect to see a lot of them there and in their costumes.” And finally, the great group of individuals served by Helping Hands present original paintings and will be up for a silent auction.

Page Balloon Regatta

Since 2003, the Page Lake Powell Balloon Regatta has become a world-class and citywide jewel of an event right in the heart of the fall season. The entire town comes alive when about 60 hot air balloon pilots pour into the area, ready to take to the heavens. Balloons have previously launched from the Page Lake Powell National Golf Course. Spectactors can get a stellar vantage point of the initial takeoffs near South Navajo Drive, around the crest of the plateau as it coincides with the top of the golf course. The Rimview Trail can also give access to this area, as well as a few other prime spots of viewership on the northwest side of town. The allure of the Regatta has reached a worldwide level

among enthusiasts and pilots as they have traveled from all over the world in recent years to participate. Mid to late fall is also a meteorological high point for flying balloons in northern Arizona. Lulls in weather tend to accompany the high-pressure systems that move through the area and create ideal conditions for balloon flying. Mild breezes, high visibility and no precipitation make for smooth air sailing. And, of course, the spectacular

views from thousands of feet up in the air are perhaps the biggest motivator. The real show occurs on Saturday night of the Balloon Regatta weekend. That’s when the Glow event, which has become one of the largest community-wide affairs in town, occurs. The Glow also coincides with the largest vendor fair in Page where seasonal restaurant owners and services give their last hurrah before the end of the season.

Celebrating Community events throughout the year

The vendor fair is hosted by The Chamber Page Lake Powell. In 2015, more than 60 vendors opened up booths to another 5,000 unique visitors. The fair takes place right outside the Page Mesa Theater on Lake Powell Boulevard and will encompass almost the entirety of the parking complex all the way past the National Bank and towards Elm Street. An all day event, vendors will stick around after sunset for the Saturday night Glow. To end the night, local

business hosts music and dancing in the increasingly popular beer garden. A huge swath off the adjacent Lake Powell Blvd., is closed for the pilots to line up their fully inflated balloons for the Glow event. Each pilot running his or her burners simultaneously gives it its eponymous name. When they’re all lined up and alight, the street shines like a Christmas tree. And don’t worry about any rogue fliers; they tend to keep the balloons tethered down

during this time.

Christmas Tree Lighting

The Chamber Page Lake Powell and Colorado River Discovery hosted Page’s inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting at the beginning of December. Carolers, holiday treats and some fiddle tunes were provided. The Chamber also asked all those that came to the lighting to bring their very own personalized decorations to

make the tree truly Page’s.

Santa’s Layover

The Chamber’s annual Santa’s Layover and Vendor Fair takes place on a Saturday in December at the Page Municipal Airport. Santa Clause himself makes an appearance each year. This annual event showcases locally made items. All booth fees were donated to a Coconino Community College scholarship fund specifically for Page and LeChee area students.
