IMPRESSIVE BOTTLE WHIMSEY. Made by Charles C. Hoke, Ohio, early 20th century. Two level whimsey in a large bottle with wooden clapboard farm house and school house. Original paint. Each level decorated with beads and supported by wire posts. On a carpet covered wooden base. Some wear and some windows are not in top house. 24.5”h. Ex Robert and Mary Merritt, The Merritt’s Museum of Childhood, Douglassville, Pennsylvania. Sold at Pook & Pook September, 2005.

FINE OHIO CRIB QUILT. New Bremen, Auglaize County, mid-19th century, cotton. Exuberant vining border surrounds centerfield of stylized tulips, Neatly handsewn and quilted in pattern of feathered wreaths, diamonds and rows of triple stitching. The two red bound circular openings fit over the cradle or crib foot posts and kept the quilt from slipping off the child. 45” x 45.5”. Descended in a New Bremen family.

BROAD AXE AND BASIN. Ohio, 2nd quarter-19th century. Brass basin marked “FBS, The Canton Aluminum Co., Canton,O.” Dents and splits. 5.5”h. 19”l. Steel axe head stamped “V.L. Goodman, Powell & Co., Ohio-City”. Wooden handle is probably old replacement. 16”l. overall.

Several handwritten and printed labels identify the maker as Charles Hoke of Center, Ohio, 1904 including one for “C.C. Hoke’s Museum of Artistic Wonders...” $4,000-$6,000
