Morris & Co., a brewery, and then founded the lumber companies of Morris & Maxfield and Morris & Smith. In 1817, Morris purchased a home at 225 South 8th Street, which became known as the “Morris Mansion” in Philadelphia. His first marriage to his cousin Elizabeth Morris Buckley (1771-1797), produced a son.
