In preparation for the City of Modesto’s 150th birthday celebration this year (see page 10), the Gallo Center gathered a large group together for a photograph that will be used in a commemorative book to be published by the Modesto Chamber of Commerce. We thought it would be fun to give you an advance peek. It takes committed, passionate people to operate the Gallo Center for the Arts, and these are some of many wonderful board members, volunteers, resident company leaders and staff who make it happen. We’re proud to join in Modesto’s 150th birthday celebration, and proud to contribute to our city’s vibrant arts legacy.

MODESTO’S OWN
l i ndsay
PEARCE IS ON BROADWAY!
Many people across the valley already know this story. It was hard to miss. When the news broke in late February that Modesto’s Lindsay Pearce had been cast as Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway—yes, that Broadway—local social media was awash in stunned excitement and hometown pride. Then The Modesto Bee ran a front page, above-the-fold story. Soon thereafter it was news in many other places. However, there was a sidebar to the story that gives it some incredible context. In 2010 Lindsay became the first grand prize winner of the first Valley Talent Project at the Gallo Center. Nearly two years later, on June 5, 2012, Lindsay and her mom Carol attended a concert at the Center by Idina Menzel—who became a star when she originated the role of Elphaba on Broadway. By sheer happenstance, Lindsay was photographed backstage with Idina, making for a ‘once-and-future’ photograph that the Center had saved in its archives. We’re pleased to share it with our patrons! To experience the talent that has propelled Lindsay into the New York epicenter of musical theater, scan the QR code below to see her perform “She Used
to Be Mine” from Waitress, recorded live at the 10th anniversary of the Valley Talent Project last year.

SO LONG, FAREWELL & AND THANK YOU,
bobbie For as long as there has been a Gallo Center for the Arts, there has been Bobbie Goodnight running our ticket office. Until now. Bobbie is leaving us at the end of March to relocate in Las Vegas and begin a new chapter in her life. To say this is a difficult goodbye is an understatement. Bobbie joined the Gallo Center in 2007 and, working closely with Al Poulus (now the Center’s chief operating officer), virtually invented what has become one of the most efficient and admired ticketing operations in the performing arts business. “Bobbie and I have worked together for 13 years,” said Poulus. “She has been an invaluable resource and expert with our Tessitura ticketing software across all departments, and a senior manager with a keen grasp of our overall operations. I will miss her.” We all will. Thank you for everything, Bobbie.
