R o m a n K O N S TA N T I N O V As a child, I loved to watch my grandfather paint landscapes with very small and short strokes, scrupulously crafting every centimeter of his canvas. This manner has always inspired me. Later, having entered the Crimean Art School, I learned about the terms “big light” and “big shadow” thanks to my teachers. Once at the Kiev National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in the Department of Restoration, I used this “line method” in the restoration process and for the blending of lost fragments of the painting. I would often use very small, vertical strokes in watercolor to find the correct values and tones through blending.

My World

I guess my style is a combination of holistic vision and a scrupulous method of conducting restoration; and, maybe, a little grandfatherly influence! Roman Konstantinov was born in Belogorsk, Russia (Crimea) in 1982. He graduated from the Samokish Art Academy in Crimea from the painting department and then went on to study restoration at the Kiev Art Academy. After graduation, he worked as a restorer in the Kiev Museum of Contemporary Art. In 2014, Roman returned to his home in Crimea where he has been building a very successful painting career. He and his artist wife, Alina Sharovskaya, are parents to two beautiful sons. (cover) Time to Dream • 47" x 54 3/4" • oil
