Cost effective Typically requiring minimal labour and plant, Gabion structures can be built anywhere at low cost.

Applications:

Environmentally friendly

S Marine

Gabions have much less impact on the environment than other construction materials such as concrete; they have even improved environmental quality at a number of locations.

Aesthetically pleasing Gabions have a natural appearance which is enhanced when vegetation growth is encouraged.

Durable The double twisted wire mesh of the Gabion baskets, ensure that they will not unravel in the event of one or more of the wires breaking. The PVC coated Galfan wire offers up to three times more protection against corrosion than zinc coated wire.

Can adapt to difficult sites

S Coastal Protection S Wetlands S Weirs S Creek Rehabilitation S Drainage S Bio filters S Erosion control

Gabions can be used in environmentally sensitive locations, including marine environments.

S Soil stabilisation

Long lasting

S Roads/railways

Gabions can last 100+ years, depending on the application and coating.

S Bridge abutments

Strong The fastening procedure ensures that the units act as one extremely strong monolithic structure.

Flexible

S Sloping Blocks S Mining dump walls

Gabions are able to accommodate significant differential settlement.

S Retaining Walls

Low maintenance

S Noise Walls

Usually minimal maintenance is required as Gabions are extremely durable and long lasting.

S Decorative facades

Permeable This stops hydrostatic pressure being built up behind retaining structures and makes Gabions an ideal solution in marine and freshwater environments.

Rapid installation Gabions can be installed at a much quicker rate that concrete as no footing or curing is required.

Research shows that Gabions have had a positive impact on ecosystems by improving environmental quality thereby enabling the regeneration of native species.

The term Gabion comes from the Italian word gabbione meaning “big cage.

The team’s combined knowledge and experience guarantees exceptional outcomes for our clients.

Operational team All our staff are trained in accordance with the Maccaferri guidelines for Gabion installation. Staff also receive training in working at heights, first aid, skid steer and excavator operations, defensive driving, mining inductions and health, safety & environment.

Whatever the job, Prospect Contractors has all the equipment needed to take your job from start to finish, whether it’s bobcats, excavators, utes or trucks. We have shipping containers for movement and storage of equipment and are therefore a mobile operation and can work anywhere in Australia.

In addition to providing clients with an initial quote we also provide a 3D imaging service. This involves taking the project plans and digitising them into a 3 dimensional movie or illustration. Clients are then sent a CD containing the 3D movie of their finished project which also shows how their project will be constructed. Clients find this service extremely useful as it shows what the final product will look like and also picks up on potential engineering problems before construction has begun, saving time and money.

aquatic gabions Gabions are an ideal solution to any aquatic environment, providing a convenient and cost effective way of stabilising earth and controlling erosion, while at the same time providing an excellent habitat for all marine and fresh water species. Spaces between the rocks quickly become filled with silt which encourages vegetation growth. These spaces can also provide protective habitats for small aquatic creatures to live and lay their eggs etc. Unlike concrete, Gabions and Renos will not leach harmful chemicals into the water and will have a longer life span in the aquatic environment as they are specially designed to prevent corrosion. The PVC coated wire mesh used to make Gabions and Renos is one of the few construction materials that can withstand highly corrosive marine environments. Gabions and Renos have an advantage over traditional construction materials such as concrete because they are extremely strong and will not be washed away while at the same time being flexible enough to conform to ground movement.

Before

Curtis Stebonheath Wetlands Location: Munno Para, SA Client: City of Playford

Project Summary: Prospect Contractors installed 1500m3 of Gabions to the new wetlands at Munno Para. The wetlands will provide a vital storage and treatment point for 300 mega litres of stormwater, as well as provide a picturesque and functional open space for the local community.

Pipers Crest

The new larger wetlands allows the site to capture, cleanse and store up to 490 mega-litres of stormwater per year, which is equal to the amount needed to fill 200 Olympic size swimming pools!

Munno Para Wetlands Location: Munno Para, SA Client: City of Playford

Project Summary: The Munno Para Wetlands were built to take water run off from the new subdivision in the area, which is to be used to green local parks and wetlands. Prospect Contractors installed 1400 cubes of Gabions to stabilise the edge of the wetlands.

Beyond Subdivision Location: Pt Elliot, SA Client: Beyond Today

Encounter Lakes Location: Victor Harbour, SA Client: South Coast Sand & Civil

Project Summary: Prospect Contractors installed a Gabion retaining wall, in a marine environment at the Franklin Island Development. PVC sleeves were used to fix a fence into the Gabion wall.

Patawalonga River Location: Glenelg, SA Client: SA Water

Project Summary: Prospect Contractors installed Reno Mattresses one metre under water to stabilise the embankment at the Patawalonga in Glenelg. Divers were required to clip and fill the mattress sections that were under water and careful planning was needed to work around the tide times.
