2012 marks a special year in our calendar as we celebrate our Ruby anniversary. 40 years ago, my father Arthur returned to Malta from Canada after spending three years in a diamond cutting factory. His boyhood dream was finally coming true: that of creating a successful venture which would bring diamond cutting and high end diamond jewellery to Malta.

The beginnings were tough, but we look back with pride to the days when, together with his partners, GABA became pioneers of Maltese diamond cutting and leaders in the distribution of diamonds, gold and silver jewellery. We have come through these years and the changes time brings with it thanks to our perseverance and the belief in our long standing motto, Where Trust is a Tradition. Today we continue designing and creating jewellery with the experience we gained during these years, as we strive to provide you with our own creations: innovative yet timeless pieces.

1. Arthur Satariano returns to Malta after three years in Canada and opens GABA’s first diamond cutting factory in Tower Road, Sliema, becoming the first diamond cutting company on the island and the largest trader in gold bullion.
2. GABA enters the retail business through the provision of high end quality diamonds. The first GABA Diamonds outlet opens in Sliema. GABA further diversifies into the provision of 18kt gold and silver.
3. GABA moves its operations to new premises in Valley Road, Msida.
4. GABA stages Malta’s first ever jewellery exhibition at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. Over a tonne of gold was flown to Malta for the event.
After years of experience gained through the wholesale of silver and gold to other jewellers in the market, GABA extends to the retail sector by forming GABA Gioielli. GABA Gioielli’s outlets in Iklin and Paceville specialise in the provision of silver and gold jewellery, as well as watches, frames and mini-diamond jewellery.
5. Goodbye Msida! With the aim of providing clients with an unforgettable experience, GABA Diamonds moves to the new, state of the art GABA complex in Naxxar Road, Iklin. The new complex, completely redesigned, features four floors dedicated to silver, gold and diamond jewellery and home dècor. GABA can now boast the largest jewellery selection on the island.
GABA Dècor is launched. Operating in the quality home dècor market, GABA Dècor enhances the concept of GABA as a one stop shop, catering also for the wedding segment through the provision of wedding lists in addition to GABA’s historic leadership in the provision of 18kt gold wedding rings.
6. Through its alliance with Coloured Diamonds Investment House, GABA Diamonds is the first to provide high end coloured diamonds in Malta. Thanks to the relationship with Rio Tinto, the company presents a number of rare stones acquired through a series of auctions. The collection nowadays includes a selection of yellow and extremely rare pink stones starting from a size of 1.02ct up to 6.0ct.
