A Message from the President

Did You Know About?

Team, This summer, I encourage you to do two things: learn how to avoid heatrelated illnesses and complete our 2017 Employee Engagement Survey. Know the signs By following a few simple steps you can ensure that you and your team are safe on post. It’s important to know the signs of heat-related illness because acting quickly can prevent more serious medical conditions and may even save a life. Heat Stroke is the most serious heat-related illness and requires immediate medical attention. Symptoms include: confusion, fainting, seizures, very high body temperature and hot, dry skin or profuse sweating. CALL 911 if a coworker shows signs of heat stroke. Heat Exhaustion is also a serious illness. Symptoms include: headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, thirst and heavy sweating. Heat fatigue, and heat rash are less serious, but they are still signs of too much heat exposure. If you or a coworker has symptoms of heat-related illness, tell your supervisor right away. If you can, move the person to a shaded area and loosen his/her clothing, give him/her water (a little at a time), and cool him/her down with ice packs or cool water. Have someone stay with your coworker until help arrives. Practice Prevention Most heat-related health problems can be prevented with the following steps: Drink water every 15 minutes, even if you are not thirsty. Rest in the shade to cool down. Know the signs of heat-related illness and keep an eye on fellow workers. Be sure to get used to the heat and allow yourself the time to build up a tolerance. 2017 Employee Engagement Survey In April, we launched a months-long 2017 Global Employee Engagement Survey, which goes to every employee in the United States, as well as all G4S colleagues around the world. This survey is both anonymous and voluntary. The Employee Engagement Survey is conducted every two years to gather your views about the organization. Conducting a regular survey allows us to assess whether we are living up to our commitment to protect, respect, involve, develop and engage our employees, so we can deliver great service to our customers. Your answers allow us to address key issues identified during the survey. Take a look at the directions on the right hand side of this page. Sign on today to provide your feedback. Your opinion matters and ensures that we continue to improve as a company.

Sincerely, Drew Levine

G4S Safety Net is designed to assist G4S employees serving in the National Guard and Military Reserves and is another way that we thank those who have or are currently serving in the military. Local offices support employee/service members and their families in a variety of ways, including: • Creating a volunteer resource pool to help in times of emergency, such as child-care, unexpected moves, repairs/maintenance, and many other services. • Budget a mid-tour gift certificate for the family to use. • Send “Thinking of You” cards in support of the employee and their family. • Direct employee/service members and their families to our G4S Military Communities for further support and guidance by others within the G4S and military community. For more information, contact your local HR team or shelley.gordon@usa.g4s.com.

hris Casper is walking on one repaired Achilles tendon and a second that is 25 percent severed. As a result of multiple improvised explosive device (IED) incidents, the bones in his feet are shattered, causing bone fragments to slash one of the tendons and slowly saw through the second. That’s what 25 years in the military can do to a human body. Casper has seen it all: six months in Egypt during the Gulf War, deployment to Panama, two tours in Iraq, and two tours in Afghanistan. Then, as if he couldn’t get enough, after retiring from the United States Army on April 1, 2014, Casper returned to Afghanistan as a contractor for a risk management company doing site security. He worked hand-in-hand with Afghan troops, helped secure the compound, and made sure every soldier was fed. By the end of it all, Casper was ready to come home. Upon returning stateside, Casper did what he thought was best and applied to work in security. “You do everything to minimize risk (in the military),” Casper said. “Security is that way in a lesser degree. It takes the dedication, the high standard. That’s what I like about G4S, the high standard and they recruit military. I got in this program to tell my brothers and sisters that this makes the transition much smoother. You’re surrounded by likeminded individuals.” He began working with accounts, doing his best to understand the company and

how it worked. Shortly after, an opening as an Area Supervisor IV became available, and Casper immediately applied. Within his role as Area Supervisor IV in Phoenix, AZ, Casper oversees the security of 11 sites, totaling more than 4,000 manhours per week. He serves as scheduling coordinator, payroll specialist, and operations specialist as well. “(You need) discipline, drive, and attention to detail,” Casper says of the skills required for an Area Supervisor. “All qualities that veterans bring to the table from their background.” From the U.S. Army to G4S, Casper has taken the experiences he used in the military and applied them directly to his job in his civilian life. The attention to detail, ability to lead others and work in a team all have carried over and helped him succeed. Chris Casper spent 25 years with the U.S. And while his past Army, experiencing six tours to four different experiences have made countries him excel, what Casper enjoys most is the people he works with. “It’s been fantastic,” Casper said of working with G4S.“I haven’t had to worry about a lot of other things that you have in other civilian jobs. I haven’t worried about fitting in with my military mindset. I haven’t had to change. G4S has accepted me for who I am and what I know and utilized that to make

DESLISLE, Miss. - Following the overnight shift at a chemical company in Mississippi, USO Elvis Marcum, who suffers from COPD, was having trouble breathing. When the shift ended, Sergeant Joseph Haner took USO Marcum to the gate where he used his emergency inhaler, but it didn’t help. Sgt Haner drove USO Marcum to the on-site Emergency Department where he got oxygen and was stabilized. Captain Antonio Arrington drove Marcum home before he went to the Biloxi Veterans Hospital where he was diagnosed with acute RSV virus, a life-threatening diagnosis for adults with COPD. Thanks to the help of Sgt. Haner and Capt. Arrington, USO Marcum was able to recover. SAN JOSE, Calif. - When Security Officer Raymond Yos didn’t report for duty at his assigned time, Site Supervisor Jorge Perez realized this was out of the ordinary. Perez remembered that Yos had been dealing with medical issues and contacted San Jose police to perform a welfare check. When San Jose PD arrived at Security Officer Yos’ house, they found him unresponsive on the floor. Paramedics were called and transported Yos to a local hospital. EMS said that if it were not for Perez’ quick action and awareness, Yos would not have survived much longer.
