C

hris Casper is walking on one repaired Achilles tendon and a second that is 25 percent severed. As a result of multiple improvised explosive device (IED) incidents, the bones in his feet were shattered, causing bone fragments to slash one of the tendons and slowly saw through the second. That’s what 25 years in the military can do to a human body. Casper has seen it all; six months in Egypt during the Gulf War, deployment to Panama, two tours in Iraq, and one tour in Afghanistan. Then, as if he couldn’t get enough, after retiring from the United States Army on April 1, 2014, Casper returned to Afghanistan as a contractor for a risk management company doing site security. He worked hand-in-hand with Afghan troops, helped secure the compound, and coordinated convoy security to deliver food to support ISAF forces. By the end of it all, Casper was ready to come home. Upon returning stateside, Casper did what he thought was best and applied to work in security. “You do everything to minimize risk (in the military),” Casper said. “Security is that way in a lesser degree. It takes the dedication, the high standard. That’s what I like about G4S, the high standard and they recruit military. I got in this program to tell my brothers and sisters that this makes the transition much smoother. You’re surrounded by likeminded individuals.” He began working

with accounts, doing his best to understand G4S and how it worked. Shortly after, an opening as an Area Supervisor IV became available, and Casper immediately applied. Within his role as Area Supervisor IV, Casper oversees the security of 11 contract sites, totaling more than 4,000 manhours per week. He serves as scheduling coordinator, payroll specialist, and operations specialist. “(You need) discipline, drive, and attention to detail,” Casper says of the skills required for an Area Supervisor. “All qualities that veterans bring to the table from their background.” From the U.S. Army to G4S, Casper has his military experiences and applied them directly to his civilian job. The attention to detail, ability to lead others and work in a team all have carried over and helped him succeed. And while his past experiences have made him excel, what Chris Casper served for 25 years in the U.S. Army, experiencing six tours to four different countries Casper enjoys most is the people he works with. “It’s been fantastic,” Casper said of working with G4S.“I haven’t had to worry about a lot of other things that you have in other civilian jobs. I haven’t worried about fitting in with my military mindset. I haven’t had to change. G4S has accepted me for who I am and what I know and utilized
