Joan Miró. Gaudí XIII, 1979

Miró-Gaudí-Gomis The exhibition highlights the influence of the Modernista architect on Miró’s production through the Gaudí Series, a group of twenty-one prints in a variety of sizes featuring fantastic characters with which the artist paid tribute to the architect in the mid-1970s. Miró was particularly drawn to the rhythm and structure of Gaudí’s work; he shared his urge to question the use of existing procedures and materials as well as a deep bond with nature, the generating force behind his creations. The treatment of colour and the use of curved lines in these prints are reminiscent of the trencadís broken-tile mosaic technique, a hallmark of Gaudí’s work.
The exhibition is rounded off with a series of photographs by Joaquim Gomis (Barcelona, 1902-91), a renowned photographer and friend of Joan Miró. Gomis’ images of architectural details evoke the forms that Miró would later apply in his sculptures. Follow this exhibition on social media: #MiróGaudíGomis

Lina Bo Bardi Drawing
This exhibition is about the profound sense of connection that the architect Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992) had with drawing. More than the tool of a designer, to her, drawing was a primary expressive means driven by a strong sense of curiosity and doubt. Although she never claimed drawing to be an independent artistic language, she embraced it with artistic purpose. Different Trains Beatriz Caravaggio
A visual rewrite of Different Trains, the piece Steve Reich composed in 1988 as an autobiographical work with references to the holocaust and the trains that carried Jews to the Nazi death camps. The film is set to a Kronos Quartet recording of the piece from 1989.
The film will be screened as part of the Grec 2019 Festival de Barcelona. A production by Fundación BBVA and ArsVideo Producciones
Joan Miró Collection The Fundació Joan Miró is a remarkable space created by Joan Miró himself with the idea of making art accessible to all. The collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures and works on paper displayed at the Fundació is one of the most comprehensive selections of Miró’s oeuvre, offering a thorough overview of all the stages of his life and career. A variety of spaces allow visitors to venture into an interdisciplinary exploration of the highly personal language and production of one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. A series of overarching themes illustrate key concepts in Miró’s work and in the thinking of his times, while reflecting the artist’s desire to transcend conventional painting. The paintings related to Surrealism and the works based on the Spanish Civil War are particularly noteworthy due to their artistic and poetic significance. Other important pieces include the large canvases Miró produced from the late seventies onwards, which are characterised by large fields of colour and free gesture.

The Fundació also devotes a wing to the Kazumasa Katsuta collection, which allows visitors to explore a dialogue between East and West, highlighting the universality of Joan Miró’s work.

A Monster Who Tells the Truth Knowledge –our understanding of every aspect of existence– has gradually evolved over the course of history. According to the philosopher Michel Foucault, one of the ways of controlling this knowledge is to divide it into disciplines, veritable structures of power that establish the limits of truth at any given moment in history. The artists featured in this series question and push at the boundaries between disciplines in order to reflect on the dynamics of power that affect knowledge. Thus, art is presented as a powerful monster capable of pointing to the weakness of these boundaries: a monster who tells the truth or, at the very least, who points at the person telling it. While the consolidated maker movement has become increasingly dependent on corporate high tech, Iñaki and Vanesa have found numerous examples of low-complexity, highly efficient solutions.

Photography in the Foyer forces arising from the powers that surround them and from their own psyches. The exhibition seeks to address the boundaries of what is human, allowing us to glean a spectral, intermediate, nebulous, terrifying universe in which humanity has been removed.

These photographs by Joaquim Gomis of some of Antoni Gaudí’s most representative buildings have been selected with the consideration that Lina Bo Bardi could have discovered the works of the Catalan architect during her visit to Barcelona in 1956. In fact, Gomis and Bo Bardi’s paths may have crossed while they visited these buildings, since some of the photographs were taken that same year.

The title is drawn from a line in a poem by José Lezama Lima: La luz es el primer animal visible de lo invisible, “light is the first visible animal of the invisible”. With no manipulation whatsoever –with just water, light, and a camera– Bufill captures real images in a fraction of a second and turns them into hypnotic apparitions. Families Our programming for families includes a broad range of activities and experiences for people of all ages aimed at sparking individuals’ curiosity and encouraging their personal connections to art. The activities are grouped into three areas: experiences related to the Joan Miró collection that stimulate creativity beyond contemplation; interdisciplinary activities based on temporary exhibitions and the Espai 13 exhibition programme, which provide a broad interpretation of reality as presented by the museum; and, last of all, other explorations regarding the Fundació and its context, the paths that lead there, the landscape, the neighbourhood and Montjuïc, viewed metaphorically as a magic mountain that opens up new paths to learning.
