Garagem Digital Program

Another demand in the area of Education is the need for training to use Information and Communication Technologies (ITCs), for this purpose the methodology for the Garagem Digital program was consolidated in 2008 and carried out in partnership with HP Brasil via the publication “Garagem digital com vista para o mundo – inclusão digital com jovens e comunidade”, which was launched at the start of 2009. The aim of this document is to disseminate methodologies and support public policies for digital inclusion that ensure access of youth to the ITCs and the development of their communities via implementation of the Digital Garages. “The creation of the Garagem Digital took months and involved many people. We were looking for a project in which technology entered as a means rather than an end in itself, which meant that we could not offer computing courses. At that time digital inclusion was not “in fashion”, therefore it is not that which motivated us. The main point of the project was to be a way of helping youths to enter the job market with self-confidence and self-esteem”, explains Carlos Ribeiro, from HP Brasil, one of the creators of the Program. This Program stimulated access to new technologies via the digital garages, which are spaces that operate both as ambits for public utilization and as places for training youths from 14 to 24 years of age, with a focus on five areas: Administration and Marketing; Art and Design; Language and Communication; Social Sciences and Information and Communication Technologies.

What is the Garagem Digital Program? This program promotes digital inclusion in such a way as to contribute to the educational process of youths and to the development of their communities. The chief sponsor is HP Brasil.
