Two Distinctly Unique Argentine Fisheries: One Group-Familiar Host

Dear Traveler,

Frans Jansen is inviting you each on a unique hosted trip featuring two of the most fabled and renowned species in Argentina –goliath rainbow trout on Lake Strobel at Laguna Verde and Golden Dorado – as well as Pacu and Pira Pita - on the temperate Parana River at Suinda Lodge.

The nickname says is all – “Jurassic Lake” – which was earned by the giant rainbow trout that cruise the shores, lagunes and river of Lake Strobel like submarines stalking their quarry. Estancia Laguna Verde is a massive property bordering the lake and encompassing miles of private lakefront, the Barrancoso River and 12 other lagunas and creeks teaming with large scud fed rainbow trout. You will catch your personal best here, no doubt on more water than you can possibly cover in a week. The lodge is booked exclusively and there are ample opportunities for single rooms as well as couples’ accommodations. The newly renovated lodge sits atop a bluff overlooking Laguna Verde – the ranch name’s sake – and just a short cast from the shores of lake Strobel. Lake side asados, fine malbec wines and water diversity in the remote reaches of Santa Cruz Province in South-Central Argentine Patagonia – Laguna Verde is absolutely a bucket list destination.

Golden dorado are quickly becoming one of the most coveted species in South America and the densest populations in Argentina are found in northeaster tropical and subtropical region along the Parana River which forms the border between Argentina and Paraguay. Suindá Lodge on the Upper Paraná River just upriver from the scenic costal town of Itati, Corrientes Province. The Paraná River—in front of Suindá and upstream of Corrientes where it borders Paraguay—is large water broken up by various islands with white sand flats surrounding them and hundreds of miles of shoreline to cast to for large dorado. Across the river on the Paraguay side, the river braids into smaller channels and rivers with thick jungle verenza hanging down to the water hiding Pacu, Pira Pita, in addition to the predatory Dorado. Anglers most commonly fish from custom regionally built bay boats with casting and poling platforms, 4 stroke motors and remote trolling motors however wading on the hard sand flats in the right conditions will produce some amazing and visual strikes. Suindá Lodge is above the ground with hanging walkways connecting the spacious, airconditioned rooms to the main central lodge all constructed of indigenous hardwoods and regional materials.

This departure takes anglers to two extremes of Argentina, trout to the very south and Dorado quite literally along the northern border of the country hosted by Frans Jansen and logistically organized by the Frontiers staff.

Sincerely,

The Frontiers Team

About Your Host: Frans Jansen

Born in Amsterdam in 1961 fishing became my passion at a very young age. By my early 20’s I found myself immersed as a European fishing guide bouncing around Germany, Austria, England, Wales and Denmark chasing resident trout, Atlantic salmon and sea run brown trout. Approaching my 30’s I had ventured across the pond to guide in Alaska in the northern hemisphere summers for 6 years and dipping below the equator to South America - predominantly in Chile – during their seasons. Beginning at Paloma lodge, Coyhaique I made my way north to Isla Monita as manager and head guide from 1996-2003 before fining my Chilean home that most of you are certainly familiar with – Martin Pescador Lodge – where Anna – my wife – and I spent 18 years building the finest trout fishing program in Chile. Currently I am guiding striped bass in Maine, Tarpon/Bonefish/ Permit and Redfish in Florida and hosting trips internationally. In the past few seasons, I have hosted to Brazil, Mongolia, The Seychelles, British Columbia, Tanzania, Bolivia, Argentina, Mexico and Alaska, and am not excited to add Argentina for giant rainbow trout at Laguna Verde and Golden Dorado, Pacu and Pira Pita on the Parana River at Suinda Lodge. Please take a moment to review the itinerary and facts below and I look forward to having you along on my Argentina Hosted Trip in January 2024.
